that's between 500 and 1700 children a day, depending on what numbers you accept.

still, no matter which numbers you use, doesn't this make you arrive at one of the following conclusions?.

Peace to you Shelby. It does help me understand how you view the world. However, you just happen to be wrong on this. Allah is not related to Hallelujah at ALL. It is related to elhohim. Arabic and Hebrew have ancient shared roots but are widely diverged. You are simply taking the english form of two totally different words and relating them. It would be like me saying collected and sold seashells for a living because Shelby and shell happen to share four letters.

Allah is derived from two words, "al" and "ilah", the Arabic cognate of the feminine semitic "eloah". It literally means "The God". It has nothing to do with Ishmael or Muhammed or Muslims. These words and names were around long before imaginary Ishmael ever was put to papyrus.

Free Will and Foreknowledge

hi, i'm a new member that enjoys civil debate, so i thought i'd just throw a topic out there.. if we take the standard, contemporary judeo-christian god (all-knowing, all powerful, and perfectly good in every possible way) and attempt to incorporate free will, we end up with a contradiction.

an all knowing being knows everything that has occured, is occuring and will occur, if otherwise then we can not consider this being to know all.

if god knows all that will happen, then he knows our decisions, as well as the outcomes of those decisions.

Does the Issue of Universal Sovereignty make sense to you as an explanation for evil?

it used to for me, and now it doesn't.. i'm not sure how i was able to accept that argument now that i don't, but perhaps it was connected with my increasing compassion for people and their personal suffering as i've grown older.. now it seems like a sick excuse.

more like a bar-bet with satan and all of creation suffers.. i read paul's words and he has no rejoiner except to say in effect "sucks to be a vessel of wrath...glad i'm not one, but who are you to complain anyway, huh?

who's bigger, smarter and more powerful than you, you, you complaining vessel of wrath, you.

Speaking of figs, I had the most delicious dessert every the other day, stone ground water crackers with warm brie, fig preserves, and grilled thick bacon.

I also recently had fresh whole figs splits open with a brie wedge and prosciutto on top. Delicious.

This would all be so simple of Jesus/God/Jehovah/Yahweh/Jahmischashoogena would just magically appear to all of us at the same time and clear all this up.

He could implant the same message in our brain, take over all the internets, TV waves, appear in the sky to all mankind, someththing.

Oh, and Allah is NOT shortened form of Hallelujah. At all. It's interesting, funny and sad when someone takes an English form of two ancient words from two different cultures, languages and alphabets and then thinks one comes from the other based on modern English forms of the words. Allah pre-dates Islam and shares a cognate with ancient Hebrew.

since 1935, the watchtower had been categorically teaching (for over 6 decades) that the heavenly calling of the 144,000 anointed christians had ceased in 1935. this teaching was especially significant to older jws (especially those who spent much of their lives serving the watchtower as pioneers, elders, missionaries, bethelites, etc.

) because many of these would eventually turn their attention to the aging governing body members and feel a sense of relief knowing that the end was drawing ever so near.

in other words, as more governing body members (who were born before 1935) passed away, the closer they would get to their long-awaited reward of surviving armageddon and living on paradise earth where they would finally hug grass-eating lions near a waterfall while marveling at snow-peaked mountains in the distance.

Well, the whole 144K think is part of a verse where everything else is symbolic. Wouldn't be much of a leap for them to change that as well.

someone was holding a sign to "stop big banks now," basically saying they agree with the government taking control of the banks and what they do.

next to this person, was a person holding a sign that said, "make marijuana legal!

Seriously, I took it as an off-the-cuff attempt at facetious humor, even thought it a bit humorous, actually... and simply responded candidly... as I often do.

Fair enough. It's very possible I may have taken that personally when that was not the intent. It's all cool. No worries.
