i recieved the news today that an aquantance who was studying and attending meetings committed suicide today.
he leaves behind a terminaly ill wife and teenage children.. my best mate (non jw) who employs this man from time to time and was very fond of him is in total shock.. he would like to know what possible funeral he may have and if he himself would be welcome to attend as a non jw.. i have passed on the gist of what i found in the cd lib but would like to know any real world situations and how they have been handled by local jw's.. oz.
No good news to be had here . . .
I just hope the family sees through this and re-thinks things for their own sakes
A well worded submission of sympathy and honour for this man by your friend to the family might wake them up perhaps? . . . his call, but just a suggestion.
I feel sick about it Oz . . . but moreso really sad for the family . . . it's just bloody heartbreaking.

I read a large amount of opposing and apostate material on the internet, a lot of which was here on JWN. I have seen every apostate talking point out there.
Why restrict yourself to the views of bitter and twisted apostates? . . . if you want to learn . . . really learn . . . then what others think means diddly-squat. I would suggest researching the critical, factual information available which will have a direct bearing on what is even possible, let alone believable . . . and to do it with an open mind . . . not an agenda.

to keep my knowledge of the Scriptures and of the organization strong and my defenses the best they can be.

i came to full awareness recently after finding a work-mate who also had "seen the light" finally.. i was born/raised a jw, having made some pretty big sacrifices in the name of the organization, even moving to where the need was greater before the start of high school.
needless to say, small mid-west farm towns don't look too highly on jw's.
I threw out enough vinyls to almost fill a 44 gallon drum! . . . over $3000 worth . . . hell, the memory still hurts.

thanks to all who helped me escape my imminemt baptism after 6 years of study.
it was a close call.. ive clearly been labelled spirituallly weak, as nobody has called here to say hi or anything and its been 2 monthes now....their divine justice for me i guess.
i did see my study teacher a while back when she dropped off my memorial invite, and that was after a chat, nothing to do with the wbts...seemed like it was an afterthought on her part.. they all know about my problems with agoraphobia and panic.
I don't know how long Paula has suffered from anxiety disorder . . . and I don't want to hijack her thread.
But as a young man I was Skydiving, Flying Aeroplanes and Drag Racing . . . I had friends all over the place.
Then I became a JW for 30 years, got an anxiety disorder and that was that . . . no more JW friends.
Now I look in the mirror and don't know the person looking back at me.
I guess what I'm saying is . . . the person I miss the most is the person I used to be . . . he's a stranger to me now.
I've had all the counselling, drugs and therapy . . . but it doesn't change that fact.
I guess some things come at a price

Hi again Paula . . . I get really lonely too.
New friends are not like old friends . . . they're irreplaceable really . . . old friends that is. I tried catching up with people I used to know years ago . . . but they've moved on a long way over the years and we now have little in common.
My immediate family have little interest in me after all this time. And 7 years grappling with an anxiety disorder distanced me from my children who are now grown up.
My wife spends a lot of time with her family and they hate my guts. I sometimes think I must be a real loser to have no friends . . . I guess that's why I'm here all the time.
My anxiety disorder also makes reaching out to strangers a bit of an ordeal rather than exciting.
Shit . . . what a sad old bastard I am! . . . not much help I'm sorry . . . but I know how you feel.
