I had mine a year and a half ago. My wife woke me up really, but she wasn't fully awake herself. With the help of websites like these and Raymond Franz's books, we fully woke up together. We finally realized why the WT insists we stay away from websites, films and books from ex-jws. It exposes all their dirty secrets.

I was just talking to my wife about this very same topic earlier today! Yes, most JWs I knew where heavy drinkers, but they were more like closet drunks. Only a few I knew would drink alot amongst friends. A "friend" I had in the KH introduced me to drinking and I became a drunk myself. I'm out of the cult now, but I still drink plenty especially during the weekends.

My wife was a prisoner in her home all her life. She had it about as bad as you had it. She couldn't go to the store without her younger sister or brother. Even in her early twenties, she was supposed to go to bed by 11 pm. After I started dating her, her mother even gave her a phone cerfew so her and I wouldn't talk till 4 am. At 10 pm she was to turn in her phone an our conversation would be interrupted...she was 23 years old for f&%ks sake!!! But she was extremely patient because she knew soon she would be out of there and on her own. Now she's with me and happy to be free.

O...M...G!!!! Ok I'm a huge videogame fan and I thought I was the only nerd on this forum! Chances are nobody here has heard of the characters I mention.....Kratos (from God of War) is the number one Bad Ass. Then comes Nathan Drake from "Uncharted"....Then there's John Marston from "Red Dead Redemption" which is one of the best Western tales ever told. Videogames have the best stories to tell nowadays! Better than anything Hollywood can come up with. I'm not a big fan of the brainless Call of Duty first person shooters. I like the under-dog story-driven games better....the ones that will never be popular but will always be better than the 99%.

Family Dinner
by fade_away inso my wife and i decided to throw a little dinner for her parents and mine.
they are all hardcore jws and my wife and i have been out for a little more than a year.
her father has been innactive for years, but as soon as we decided to leave, her father decided to go full throttle jw.

For those wondering why my wife and I were eating at the counter standing is simply because we have a small 700 square foot apt with a dinner table that can only sit 4. Our parents made up four people so my wife and I stood. We could've sat on the couch too but I didn't mind standing. Gotta let the house guests sit.

So my wife and I decided to throw a little dinner for her parents and mine. They are all hardcore JWs and my wife and I have been out for a little more than a year. Her father has been innactive for years, but as soon as we decided to leave, her father decided to go full throttle JW. So it's been a very nice evening meal with them...but as they eat at the table, my wife and I are eating standing and I can't help but over-hear their conversation. They keep talking about Satan laying traps to make JWs "stumble". They talk about how the world has nothing to offer. My dad has experiences to tell about the period in his life when he left the "truth". He talks about how this world had nothing to offer him and how he felt an empty hollow space in his heart while he was gone. My wife and I are no part of their conversation....but they seem to have the same convo every time they come over. They also like to boast about how the congregation is growing. I'm not sure if these conversations are being done in front of us on purpose or if I'm just being paranoid.
My father in law has done his research on the WT history....He has uncovered the truth about the truth...but he is still in and is getting more and more indoctrinated. My parents and his wife keep brainwashing him everyday. He was a JW who started to fade and now he is slowly being brought back and we can't help him. Well, we will continue to have a good relationship with them. It'll be a bit awkward since they mostly talk about Jehovah this and Jehovah that and how close we are to the end...but I guess we can find a way to keep our relationship strong. That is unless they find out what we think of the organization. I wrote an email to a friend about my discoveries of the WT history. That may bite me in the butt one day very soon.

I love this from the April 15 tower
by therevealer innotice that they are dumb enough to let the big reason for the sadness be loss and longing for family as the main problem, nothing to do with jehovah.. 17 consider just one example of the good that can come when a family loyally upholds jehovah's decree not to associate with disfellowshipped relatives.
a young man had been disfellowshipped for over ten years, during which time his father, mother, and four brothers "quit mixing in company" with him.
at times, he tried to involve himself in their activities, but to their credit, each member of the family was steadfast in not having any contact with him.

A message to all those out there suffering
by cptkirk ini know many of you think i'm an asshole, and that is fine, because more than likely i am.
i do have a heart though...and i want to say something to all those out there right now suffering with doubts, feelings of guilt, and any other hard-ache brought on by this organizations failed policies (obviously not directed by god)...this is what i want to say to you:.
if there is a god, trust me, he wants to see the end of this jehovah's witness organization just as much as you do (more)....the depth of mind control, brain washing, and profound control mechanisms inside this borg are insidious and destructive to any healthy human being.

Well said! And you're not an asshole. Some people in this forum are very sensitive IMO....even more than in the average forums. I've said some things in other forums and get a good laugh off of everyone while in here it makes some spit out their coffe and drop their jaws.
But yeah man, I feel for those that are trapped with too much to lose and are feeling hopeless. My dad is one of the most beloved elders in the cong and a devout JW since a 12 year old child. He can't afford to have any doubts because he just has way too much to lose. All the people that look up to him will be betrayed and he will have to face all those bookstudies that got baptized cause of him, including some family members. He will have to face my mom that fought so hard to stay out of this religion early in their marriage.... eventually convinced by my dad and baptized into a full on good JW woman without a shred of doubt. I hope he doesn't doubt the religion cause if he does, he's in a world of pain. For what's left of his life, he might as well stay in there and die a happy believer rather than a depressed lonely apostate...I mean he'll have me, but he won't be able to get over the massive loss of friends and family. JW is his whole world now.

What was the first thing you did...
by OneDayillBeFree inwhen you left the man-made organization currently known as the wtbts??.
and for those still "in" but mentally "out" what have you started doing thats against the silly, stupid and non-scriptural watchtower policy/law/rule??.
i know the question has been made before on another thread but i couldn't find it and also there's been quite some growth in new ones here to jwn, so just wanted to see if we could all share some lovely/funny/random experiences.

Wow Lost! It's funny how buying a home can anger an elder while the WTBTS is currently in the Real Estate business constantly selling and buying new properties in these "last days".

My wife and I went into a porn shop.
I grew a beard
We went to heavy metal concerts
We've gotten drunk
We went to a birthday party
We went on an Apostafest
And we have been enjoying life to the fullest with no regrets! It's been an extremely fun and "happifying" experience.
What I learned: All their scare tactics about how if you leave "Jehovah" (the organization) you will be miserable, was all BS. Life is as enjoyable or as miserable as you allow it to be. It's up to you and not some voodoo magical curse that is placed upon you after leaving.
