In general, what is the ethically correct response if a minor tells you someone is molesting him/her?
by InterestedOne ini was thinking about what the elders are trained to do versus what i personally would do if a minor confided in me that someone was molesting him/her.
i'm not sure what the ethically correct first response should be.
my first thought is to contact some kind of law enforcement that specializes in investigating situations like this with people experienced in getting to the truth of the matter.

Agreed flipper, some of my new brothers are people I use to look down on and judge as bad association. Some are stepped down from 1% clubs bad ass people, but will give the shirt off of their back stand behind you no matter who the threat is without judgement. true unconditional friendship. After a life as a witness people who claimed to be true friends will run when they see me coming now.

Sounds like a lot of trouble. Just give your current secretary your new address as the address of the new congregation. My experience is they will take that in good faith and send cards and letter of introduction there. When you get them trash them. Go to new hall if you wish as a person of interest or one on a short term visit. If you tell your secretary you don't have an address he can get information from service dept.

Call child abuse hotline.(8003923738) Police are not trained to deal with this. That is like asking elders to help with marriage probem or any problem for that matter.I ride with B.A.C.A. Bikers against child abuse call them next we will do Whatever it takes to stop the abuse now. Check out web site. Einstien said the world is a dangerous place not because people do bad things but because people stand by and do nothing.

Hi all, new to this forum just got approved to post. I hope I don't mess up and get disfellowshipped from the jwd forum ha. seriously I served as an elder for some 35 years and would like to comment on this topic. It would require two witnesses to your confession if you denied saying it. That is part of the reason elders investagate accusations in pairs, among other reasons. Let me clarify, a confession is sufficient without two witnesses but if you recant and only said it to one person, elder or not then it is not judical, being only one witness to the cofession. There should not even be a judical committee formed unless there is two witnesses or a confession to two witnesses. That being said it is not unheard of for the elders to proceed with a judicial case based on one confession feeling they have a open and shut case. Keep in mind that you do not have to lie if your conscience would not alow this, your are under no obligation to answer questions just because they are asked. Just be clear that you can say that there is only one witness and that you refrain from answering any questions. They will not like it but their hands will be tied. If they wrongfully df you it would be an easy appeal if you choose to do so. Simply ask for an appeal in writing within seven days of the decision, the letter can be brief. Having served on several appeal committees the appeal committee is only suppose to consider wheather you were repentant at the time of the original hearing or if there were proceedural mistakes that would of effected the decision. In your case as stated, that would be that there was only one witness. hope this is helpful
