I gave my dad Conciense in Crisis and he read most of it and is still in. But he did celebrate Christmas with us this year (my childrens first time ever) He says he understands why I left and he would never shun me but he still thinks its Jehovahs organization because he has to have an organization. My dad was brought up Catholic and he views all other Christian religions like the Catholics.

Does anyone know Ken and Stephanie Sellman. They are originally from the Ohio area. They lived in Auberry and Fresno California they served there because the need was great. They then went to Gilead School and they went somewhere Spanish-speaking she got hurt and they came back to Ohio, they live there now with their daughter. Unforturnately I studied with her before I got baptised. She was spunky! He was a great speaker. I'm sure they are still in the lie. I wonder if anyone that zealous for the lie can wake up and see it for what it is? IS it possible?

Great Job! I hope if I'm ever in that situation I can do as well as you did. If they do come back, you might want to ask them when the fall of Babylon was. They will say 607BCE and you can ask them how do they come up with that date. Is there any archaeological evidence that supports that date. What date does all evidence point to....587BCE. Well that will just mess everything all up. The 1914 date just crumbles. Of course you could tell them that Charles Taze Russel used Pyrmidology to come up with the dates not the bible. Or you could show them in the book of Revelation that the 144,000 and the Great Crowd end up in the same place.... Before the Throne. Where would the throne be.......how about heaven.

The USA and the 'Divine Mandate'
by Abaddon inhaving had a bizzare (for a european) preoccupation with american history in the 19th c, i do find that current american foreign policy still has implict in it the religiously inspired rationale that enabled americans to seriously claim that the ethnic cleansing of the west, and the genocidal behaviours that this often entailed, was because god wanted them to do it.. from certain newspaper articles i've read it seems as if some of those in the white house believe that bush getting in despite not having the majority of the popular vote was a sign, and that 9/11 backed up their belief that bush was a man put in a certain place for a certain time and role.
that bible studies are a regular expected activity of white house staffers.. now, this makes me very nervous.
i prefer my religious fanatics to come from developing countries that may have weapons of mass destruction, rather than from the most powerful millitary country in the world with more weapons of mass destruction than the rest of the world put together.. obviously just because it was in a newspaper doesn't mean it's true (yesterday's guardian i think).. but what do you think?.

I'm a Christian and I wouldn't trust Bush as far as I could throw him. He may say he is a Christian but I don't think he is on any God given mission to save us from the Evil of the world. I have my doubts that any "Christian" would be entertaining thoughts of going to war with another country as a means of maintaining peace-surface reason--real reason oil...money; or for the reason of "payback" for blowing up World Trade Centers. That just doesn't seem very Christian to me. Do Americans believe he is, not the ones I talk to or know.

Who still goes to meetings?
by christopherceo injust a curious question to see what types of stories i get.
let's hear how you do it.

The last meeting I went to was last years Memorial. My kids went once or twice after that. My daughter has one real close friend who went to her 8th grade graduation and that was the last time she got to see her. Her parents won't allow her to associate with my EVIL daughter. My daughter and her miss eachother deeply so her and I were talking the other day and she admitted that she would like to go to a meeting so she could see this girl, but figures everyone would probably stare and it would be rather uncomfortable. I would take her but I don't think I could sit through another meeting.

Me, My husband and kids have experienced the same thing. I don't think they have any biblical reason. I think that they are afraid. It is very disturbing when your entire belief system is questioned. I think we asked some thought provoking questions that they could not answer and rather than admit they may be wrong (that is to painful) they label you bad association and don't want anything to do with you. I don't hate them for it I just feel bad for them. I pray for them. I try to think of when I was in if someone came to me with the info that I have what would I have done. I'm not sure. Its easier when you find something out yourself than when someone points out something to you.

Did Jesus Die on a Cross or Stake
by Tommy Boy ini have been research the topic of how christ died and have read many articles (most interesting of them was at the url http://www.freeminds.org/doctrine/cross.htm) which indicate that he died on a cross, so i contacted the wt and they told me to look at vine's expository dictionary of new testament words, and this is what i found.
topic: cross, crucify
<a-1,noun,4716,stauros> .

The poles or stakes were already in the ground. It was the cross beam that the person carried and the were then nailed to it which was then nailed to the pole or stake that was in the ground already. I really don't think it is an important issue, I'm glad he died for me and that is that. I think it is interesting that JW's react to the cross like a vampire does. They reject it. I think even if it was pagan at one time, now it is a sign of Christianity. If you see a person wearing a cross it usuall makes you think oh, they are a Christian. So it is kind of an identifying mark, just as the star David represents a Jew.

The Holy Spirit IS a person?
by Brummie inwhat say yea?
active force or person ?
question only aimed at those who still believe in something.
-
lv4fer
Yeah I think you are right. The Holy Spirit is a person. The bible speak of it as something that has person-like qualities. You can't grieve a "force". I think it is a person of God. I know this sounds weird but God is not like you or me he is God so we really can't comprehend. It is a person but yet a part of God. I'm not making sense but I know what I mean do you?

who hated the memorial?
by Tyler_Durden inwas having a wee think to myself: this year is the first year in over a decade i won't be attending the jw memorial.
not that i'm too bothered, i remembered how much i hated it, how pointless, dull, & stupid i found it!!.
i could never understand the need for the great crowd to attend the annual meeting, it wasn't for us - & it certainly wasn't for our poor bible studies!

I never hated it but I always had a feeling of inner turmoil.
I felt like it was wrong not to partake; I understood the reasons they said and
I didn't feel like I was annointed or special, but I came from an Episcopalian background a
nd had always partaken holy communion; So last year when I went after I came home my husband
and kids partook at home.
I bought unleaven bread and wine we said prayer and partook as a family
That gave me great satisfaction after 16 years in the borg.
The only reason we went was to save face we had not completely left yet and
were attempting a slow fade. This year we will not be attending at all.
