We're moving to Las Vegas! I got a good job offer there and my sister and nieces live there. My oldest who graduated from high school last year is moving up to Northern California to go to college. My daughter is 15 (10th grade) She is not real happy. We've lived in the same area for 14 years and she has gone to school with the same kids since kindergarten ( a very small town) She likes Las Vegas but she is upset that she is not going to graduate with these kids whom she has gone to school with all her life. She has friends but her best friend since they were babies, she lost around a year and a half ago when we left the borg. The girls parents won't let her have any contact with my "apostate" daughter. This has been extremely difficult for my daughter. I feel really bad about creating more turmoil in her life, being a teenage girl in high school is bad enough. On the other hand, I moved in high school, in fact I went to more than a dozen schools my parents moved alot. I don't remember hating it too much it seemed like that was normal. I'm looking for any suggestions in making this as easy on her as possible. I don't want to read her post in 10 years saying how her parents ruined her life and she is a nutcase because of her parents moving her in high school.

You need to read the bible, not their translation, try a NIV translation. Read some information about the Jehovahs Witnesses not published by them so you can see both sides of the coin and then decide. ALso read some information on what a cult is.
Be careful
dont let them know you reading something other than their literature they will tell you it is apostate

Disfellowshipping - How long to return?
by CaptK indoes anybody know how long it takes for one to get re-instated if you are not that well liked by the body of elders?
i was disfellowshiped for immorality almost 2 years ago.
with my job and attending college to keep in step with my field of work, i have only been attending the sunday talk & wt meeting every week.

Why do you want to be reinstated? Do you believe in it still? Family? If you believe in it still you really should do some reading and research about the organization. It is a Cult. Read some information on Cults and how to identify one. You will see it fits perfectly. They don't teach the Gospel of Christ. They are not Christians, in fact think about it they don't even identify themself with Christiandom. They say they are different from it, why because they don't teach what Christ taught but they teach their own teachings. This should set off the alarm inside your head! Now if you need to get back in for family reasons, I'm sorry for you.

We wrote a letter after they sent us a certified letter requesting my husband and I to meet with them regarding charges of apostacy. I called them and said the meeting was not a good time for us. Then I sent them a certified letter saying that we were not apostates in the biblical sense as we still believed in the bible and all the teachings of Jesus Christ. We said we would like to be left alone and if they made any announcement about us we would consider it slander and that they could possibly be sued. So they have left us alone, we are still shunned by most in the congregation. I called the presiding overseer up and asked if they had announced something due to our being shunned by the local congreation, he said they had not announced anything but that people do talk amongst themselves etc. And people have to do what their concience leads them to. So they probably started conversations about us in the car groups out in service and spread the info that way. We are not shunned by my husbands mother we agree not to talk religion, it upsets her. His sister talks to us if its in her best interest like can you fix my car etc., My dad does not shun me and said he never would. My husbands aunts and uncles and cousins do shun us. People that don't attend our local congregation if they run into us most do talk to us because they don't know we don't attend the meetings anymore. Unless they bring it up we don't say anything.

Why Are So Many JWs Ex-Catholic?
by SpannerintheWorks inis it just my imagination, or are a disproportionate of jws ex-catholic?.
were you a catholic before a jw?.
why did you feel that the jw religion was "better" than the "catholic" one?.
-
lv4fer
Because most Catholics are ignorant of what the bible says. They just follow the catholic beliefs. That is why it is easy to convert them. The JW shows them some scriptures (out of context) but they don't know any different. If you don't know anything about something it is easy for someone to fill you with wrong information because you don't know any different.

While doing some research for a talk, I stumbled upon the web site 607vs587BCE. I had always been very careful about not going on Apostate sites. This web site blew me away. I couldn't believe all the research that guy did and that gave me the courage to look at a few other web sites and then I ordered CofC and it was all over. I am very fortunate that my husband and two kids came out shortly thereafter.

Disfellowshipping
by larc ini have read many stories here about those who have been disfellowshiped.
they express the pain of the experience, and the emotional trauma they experience.
i have to ask a question.

I did shun people when I was a witness, but it always bothered me. I am not df'd but I am still shunned. I haven't done anything wrong, I just stopped attending meetings, when asked why I explained that I had some questions about certain teachings, when I was questioned by two elders who came by to ENCOURAGE me I turned the tables and asked them questions and they didn't have answers, they left and said they would get back to me. They got back to me alright with a letter inviting me to a judicial commitee for apostacy. I got back with them and said I've done nothing wrong and they better not announce anything or I'd sue them, they haven't announced anything but they spread rumors throughout the entire congregation. I am not hurt by shunning, it just pisses me off. The people who are shunning me don't even know why they are shunning me, all they know is whatever the rumors that they've heard.

Did Being A Witness Screw You Up THAT Much???
by minimus in.
a number of people feel that basically, not only was their life stolen from them because they were witnesses, but because of their being at one time jw's, they are screwed for the rest of their lives.
are you in that category?
-
lv4fer
I wouldn't say it screwed up my life. I did make choices like not going to college because of it. I'm 39 now, not too late to go back to school but at this point in my life I have a job and can't afford to quit and go back to school. I hope it's not too late for my kids. It did have a negative impact on my husband's life. Especially as far as education goes. He is a Truck Driver and he hates it but he isn't educated enough to do much of anything else we have bills so he can't go back to school. On the other hand I hope my experience can help others who want to leave to get out and possibly prevent people from getting sucked in.
