I don't even know where to start. Every JW I still have contact with is poor, their health is bad, they're stressed out, they're unhappy people. They put on a good front but you can see the strained smiles, those distant looks into nowhere (or where their life could have gone). I see facebook posts from them griping about having to get up so early to go to the meeting, complaining about the conventions, etc. etc. etc. I want to tell them. Just stay home. What would happen? NOTHING!

Why do they still hang out with me?
by scooterspank init seems unfair and a bit hypocritical that they would shun those that are disfellowshipped or disassociated, but i faded so no problem (though over the course of the past couple of decades i have committed a few disfellowshipable (is that a word?
) offenses.
anyway, just seems odd.

Lunch with an old friend...still a JW
by scooterspank inhad lunch with an old friend, still a jw.
regarding her son's education, she told me he does very well in all of his subjects, but she doesn't push him.
she tells him to just pass his classes, get out, graduate, get a part time job and........... wait for it............pioneer.

I am so glad my brother who is still a kinda sorta JW doesn't subscribe to this school of thought.
On a funny note, I push college every time I see my nephew (my brother's son), who is a junior in high school. He joked that he could be the millionaire CEO of a very successful company but if he didn't go to college first I would still beat his butt. He is correct. College isn't just about graduating and getting a good job. It's about learning to think critically, taking elective classes where you can learn about art, music, history, etc. I think college helps make you a more well rounded individual. Anyway, so sad to get a first hand account of a JW dumbing down her child and depriving him of a higher education and a decent life. Grrrrrr.....

That is a really tough question. I have managed a successful fade. Those alternatives will leave you in the position of being shunned. I guess it depends on what you have to lose or not lose. Given the choice, with no consequences, I would disassociate in a heartbeat. I would never give those ******** the satisfaction of giving me the boot. I actually have days, almost 20 years later, that I think about disassociating myself...oh the letter I would write. Anyway, tough choice, lots of good advice on this site.

How is it that well educated and financially stable people become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by 21stcenturywoman inwhen i was growing up most of the jws around me were poor and lower middle class.
some were middle class, but very few were upper middle class.
only (maybe) about 1% were college educated.

Do Active Witnesses Find Meetings Exciting?
by Band on the Run inkh meetings were utter hell.
the boredom, particularly for a child, was awful.
i feel it was a form of child abuse.

Flipper, I think I remember sleeping on the floor. I bet they spanked us as we got older for falling asleep . I think I have a lot of repressed memories. Damn this site . J/K.
I hope you can get your daughters out. My father was a quiet inspiration over the years, stepped down as an elder...blank...blank... then at some point made a very successful fade.
I must get him alone and ask him when he came to his senses! Never occured to me until now.
