Being called Jehovah's Witness, embarrasssing?

even though i was raised to beleive everything the watchtower ever.

What a classic. I used to use this line all the time when I was the householder for the sisters presentation on the Ministry school. Anyway dmouse I gave up believing in God at the same time as I gave up believing in the WTS - and I think you have hit the nail on the head as to why.

LyinEyes, I could never really get my mind around the destruction of mankind at the hand of God. Blood up to the bridles of the horses etc. Then my worldly neighbours were so kind when my first child was born. Brought in lovely food and flowers. Geez didn't they know they were wicked and deserving of death 'real soon'?

Observations on a bunch of Ex Dubs

perhaps i could have put this in the "apostofest" thread, but i didnt want it to get buried and unread.. a load of melbourne ex witnesses rolled around to my house yesterday for an "apostofest" bbq.. i must admit i was a bit..apprehensive.

fact was, i didnt know any of them.. total strangers really.. would things be strained?

would people have nothing to say to each other?would it, in fact be an embarrassment?.

Refiners, I think perhaps we were all a little apprehensive - but you were the one putting your money where your mouth is. Thank you once again for opening your home for this special occasion. I wish I could have stayed into the evening with the rest but I had promised my daughter we'd go out to dinner - you can imagine how hungry I was? I had a main course of soup which I couldn't finish. We did eat rather well @ your place. I was wishing I'd given more of my lunch to the kittens - hopefully they didn't bring up everyone's eagerness to win them over, on one of your lovely rugs!

I would very much like to keep this tradition going. I was quite charmed by everyone there yesterday. I also want to thank the lovely Beck for instigating the gathering - and for her time consuming efforts to provide extra calories for after the mains were devoured. Yum!

I'm sorry we were so tidy. Old habits die hard! Not sure why we talk about sex so much - I thought it was normal. :-))

Met Leander Today&Experience w/ family

just thought i would post this experience for the jw.com board.. today was the first time i actually met someone from this website, and oh what an interesting time it was.. seeing as in how leander and i live only a matter of minutes from one another, after talking on the phone for several weeks, we finally arranged to meet.. leander's personal experience leading him to write a formal letter to his local congregation last week has sparked a flurry of events for him in recent days, and i felt obligated as a person to try and support him through his process.. possessing a vast library of wtbts literature dating back well over 50 years, i was able to show him in person the contradictions so readily apparent within their articles, and demonstrate how time and again the jw-sect have wavered back and forth, hither and thither on doctrine allegedly inspired by the very hand of god.. it was a very fruitful experience, but this is where it gets interesting.. trying to determine an acceptable place to sit down and go over the documents.. his place was rendered impossible because his hardcore, loyal jw wife and her family were at his home.

being a saturday, the library was closed, and with a literal totebox full of books (well over 40lbs) and brochures, anywhere else public such as a bar or bookstore (can you imagine walking in with a totebox of books?

) was not logical.

Reborn, I read thru your tale of woe and feel deeply for your situation. I hope that you are in a reasonable financial position to live away from your family home now. It doesn't sound like your mother will be involved in supporting you at all. I'm so sorry about your situation. It must be very difficult. If at all possible try to think of your mother, without the religion, for the next week. Because truly underneath her brain-washed personna, is a good woman - I'm sure. Didn't she produce you? Sadly she can't help the way she is now.

The Race for the Cure

sunday, june 2 is the 2002 komen race for the cure in seattle.

after sharon died last september, wasasister suggested mulan and i walk in the komen race for the cure.

we did and it was amazing.

Princess, my mother has metastatic breast cancer so I know something about the disease. Glad to hear of your involvement in fund raising - the progress seems painfully slow. Lately there seems to be some promising leads, we can but hope that a cure is on the horizon.

I always wondered this: 1st cor. 5:11 " If anyone CALLS HIMSELF A BROTHER", and is a fornicator , a
drunkard,blah, blah...never say a greeting to him"

Yes it doesn't seem to quite fit the bill. Unless... what does the blah, blah, blah bit say? because many who have left quietly are not fornicator or drunkards - they are just average people with average lives who don't want to be called a brother.

Surely if they are happy and secure in their beliefs - they would just feel sad that one of their friends has dropped out of the queue for everlasting life. Was it Shakespear who wrote: I think thou doet protest too much? Why do they protest SO much?

They Don't Like 'Downsizing'

oh, by the way, if you're talking to hyperloyal.

bethelites and higherups, they don't like the word.

"downsizing" used in reference to headquarters.

Well today is the day that I leave the WTS

this morning i told my wife about my decision to step down as a ms and that i also would'nt be attending any meetings.

she made a few comments that i expected her to make, but strangely enough she was for the most part very silent.

she made it clear that she was against the decision but outside of a few other comments she said very little.

All you have to do now is refuse to discuss ANYTHING with them. They will generally disregard these requests for a while and
they will pour on the 'niceness' and concern, which is often genuine. Keep in mind they WILL NOT UNDERSTAND so it is best not
to explain ANYTHING.

Pathofthorns is 100% correct. Please don't be tempted to deviate from his advice. It isn't worth it. 20 yrs of being shunned by my family isn't what I would recommend to those having a choice. There is no value in talking to them. There is no safisfaction. You may have fleeting excitement, but it fades very quickly and then you get to live with their lack of ability to comprehend where you are at. What they don't understand they disfellowship. I envy where you are now. Please be very very careful not to say anything at all. Especially do not answer whether you still consider yourself a JW. If you must answer then answer yes. They lie, so play them at their own game.

With regards your wife. We women are great talkers. We love to talk things thru. So be patient and wait for her to question you. When she does, remind her that she is pushing you to talk about things that you feel would be better left unsaid. It would be much better is by the time you answer her, she is really, really pushing you to. That way she might be more open to what you say. It's much better than you trying over and over to make her see your point of view.

enjoy your new life - it's pretty good (from one who has been free since 1979!)

Siddhashunyata - you are one smart person. Are you male or female? I have read a couple of your replies lately and you are highly insightful on these issues. Do you know what the law states about child molesters? Do we have to report them or is it optional?

The poster is an example of how JWs defend the Organisation in all circumstances - no matter how vulgar their behavior. And yes Sid, you are probably right - when jws develop a social conscience, they begin to wake up.
