biblically the answer is very simple: mankind exercise their freedom of choice and in so doing chose to be slaves to sin or the demons if you like.
god respects that choice however foolish it may be.
The Bible, is written by men and has the agenda of the Churches in mind. It is a guide, for you to be involved in the CHURCH. The Bible stories don't reflect who GOD is, it has a human / religious agenda. Wake up folks, GOD will never intervene in the doings of the Earth.
If the Bible was true about the kindness of GOD he couldn't leave this mess because of the mistakes of two individuals. If MAN was created in his image then no one of the Earth could come up with a more unfair scenario to decide the future of trillons on their simple minded choices.
Most of you can't leave the ORG even though you make strong statements about your feelings about being mislead!

If you are staying for a while and are going to travel to the south from the NY region, then driving would be the better idea because of the scenery. Plan a day or so just for the smoky mountains, they begin in Virginia with the skyline drive and continue into north Georgia. In the summer you might see a bear or two and the trees and mountains are very beautiful.
If you are going to Miami for the beaches you might look into NW Florida and the Gulf Side of the state. Panama City to Pensacola has the prettiest beaches in Florida. Miami is all but been taken over by the Cubans and the Spanish. It might be interesting for a short visit.
If the international scene suits you don't miss the Orlando area, the entire world is represented there during most summer months. Of course Micky Mouse lives there also.
All of the rental cars are automatic and the wheel is on the other side from british cars, and you will drive on the right lane.
The most beautiful part of the country is the west. Arizona is fantastic.

the spin on downsizing is apparently "go out into the field" yet when the gb initially considered this it must have been presented as a practical problem - too much surplus hr capacity/ too expensive to maintain - or whatever and yet they turned it into a positive matter by stressing the return to the field - all those in such discussions are clearly able to deceive themselves as much as they try and deceive the "flock" - what do you think - did a discussion on a practical problem have to have a positive outcome and how did they twist their minds so as to sell it as such - for years they begged people to stay in bethel service (make it your home for life) and now they cast them out into the world with the thin veneer of "speedin g up the preaching work .. etc".
all those at the top must have been involved in turning this huge embarrasment (jehovah will provide etc) into a positive spin - they should try out for a marketing award "downsizing - the only way to grow!

More importantly, where willl these millions / billions they have stored going to go? If it comes apart then maybe some of those questions will clear up? In the break up maybe like ENRON we will see the exposre of some of the theives in the ORG.

of course the area known as mesopotamia was real, and it looks like there is evidence of a "tower of babel".
but as for the story of all languages, etc is it where everyone came from?.
when we look at society today, as cultures and people of different races merge together, we see people becoming more like each other, not more distinct.
This language issue is what makes me hold on to the Bible. It seems that there is no clear explanation of how many languages came about. It does however make sense that GOD would be involved according to religion, just another way of making things more mysterious.
If there a way to explain the language issue with out the Tower of Babel story please lead me to it?
