as i recall in the 1980s talks and watchtower literature, magazines and books were always talking about the "generation" teaching and how it proved armageddon was going to come any day now.. but am i correct in thinking they have only actually mentioned the new "overlapping generations" teaching once or twice in the literature?
why are they so shy about talking about their great new interpretation?
it's almost enough to make you suspect they are a embarrassed about it.. mention it once or twice, don't dwell on it, hope everyone just accepts it, and don't bring it up again.
At the current 2-day assembly they said everyone who doesn't believe the "overlapping generations" and asks the elders or the org is a "nagger". Then, in a table talk, the teaching was explained again. The poor brother had to read everything from his sheet and stumbled many times. It was so incomprehensible, you could literally hear some 800 heads scratch.
Finally the speaker said "And now, there no questions left." Hilarious.
i honestly cant remember the exact date when i was baptized.
it does not bother me one bit.
i didnt have it stamped in that shitty reasoning book/babel that i got at the time, so i guess the only place i could find it would be my cards, which are far away..

Luckily never sacrificed anything important to the org. Went to college, had worldly friends, did it my way.
What I regret is the enormous waste of time in past, present and future. And the impossibility to tell my "brothers and sisters" and even my family what I really think.
i grew up hearing this all the time.
it made me wish my life away, not look at the small joys every day of life brings to all of us.
instead i looked at all the bad there was in the world, my life, etc and blamed it all on satan.
I knew a man who, as teenager, wished to become a car engineer. But "Jehovah's new world is just around the corner, why waste your time?" So his parents an the elders forbid it.
He worked as unskilled worker and ruined his health over the years. He never got over it and became sulky and disgruntled.
Next week I will attend his funeral. He died in his seventies. Sad.

Hey Doug,
for paranoia reasons I would prefer to keep my language secret. My reading skills were good enough to understand most of it. But there are many people and especially witnesses (education is evil) which are not able to understand English.
Next time when I have the pleasure to receive a sheperding visit by some elders and the question is asked "What bothers you dear brother Lazarus?" your piece would give me some nice talking points. Not sure if it is a good idea to bring this up, but if I'm in the right mood, I might do it.

There is no question that the WT articles are plain wrong. The deliberate deceitfulness of the WTS is a shame and disgrace and should be an eye opener for every person with doubts.
I wish these informations would be available in my language.

It's certainly not easy to live a lie in such a big part of your life. But if the alternative is even worse, I choose the bad.

there was quite a debate on another post about the increase/decrease throughout the wt history surrounding 1975 and subsequent time periods when ther have been major adjustments in doctrine.
it was said that the stasticis from 1965-1985 do not reflect a massive defection, despite the failure of the wt's prophecy for the end of the wicked system of things by 1975. .
i see the overlapping generation as another potention issue to cause fallout.
DoC, don't get me wrong, for me are doctrinal issues the only reason for inwardly abandon "the truth". The same for the majority on this board.
BUT, as far as I can see, 4 out of 5 leave mainly for other reasons. Thats my impression at least.

In my area, I would guess about 15% are completely out mentally, of the younger people even 40%. I'm one of the "in for family reasons".
Further 30% are in a state of apathy and run on autopilot.
My impression is that doctrinal reasons as mentioned by DoC are only for a minority the reason to leave mentally (or physically). Most of them are just not that interested in religion and want to life their lifes as everyone elso outside the org.
