my daughter was babtised at the houston disrtict assembly over the weekend so i was more or less forced to make that one day attendace.. there was a pioneer sister who was explaining how she was getting so many japanese and phillopino bible studys.. she said that her and her husband took some foreign language classes so they could at least communicate with these people a little.. here is what they do; they find these ones that speak very little english and they tell them they are going to help them to speak english by studying the bible with them.. that really blew me away when i heard that.. should it have?
One of the big appeals to Asian immigrants is their desire to Americanize. They tend to be very receptive to the neighborly approach and the big promise that they will be equals in society overnight.
Remember that the Mexico branch was for many years simply a cultural organization that taught folks to read. Right?

would appreciate any info or experiences on this subject.... a brother is disfellowshipped, 2 years later reinstated, five years later disfellowshipped again, immorality, 4 years later reinstated, becomes elder, 8 years later runs off with pioneer 16 yr old , divorces wife , dumps girl, remarrys 5 years later, appointed elder again, i believe due to the buddy system, how many times do'es a person have to be disfellowshipped before they say no to any priveledges let alone being an elder again ?

No one who is or who has been a CO or DO will raise an eyebrow at the situation you post. Reading files (yes they are often unsealed) and hearing such situations on a regular basis just inures them to it.
I remember discussing just such an unbelievable situation in person with a senior member of the Service department. He just shook his head, made some disparaging remarks about how dumb the elders are out there. Would he do something about it? Of course not. I could not hold back from noting that these "idiotic" elders are products of the Society, plain and simple. Those at the top just don't get it.
Pay careful attention to the expressions used above about the good old boy network, "buddies," and the like. This is one of the most difficult areas to deal with if you are a sincere, spiritually inclined CO who genuinely loves the flock.

it was like a veil or cloud that decended on me, a feeling of intense sadness.. anyone visiting or posting to this board over the last few days, has witnessed the 'wars' waging around us.

Not to remain cryptic, let me tell you I got a very authoritative e-mail in which I was accused, not of stating Bethel stories inaccurately, but of letting that information out. You know, The Code. (Afraid we'll tell more important details?)
And threatened. I have sought and received appropriate advice, and followed it by turning everything over to appropriate ISP authorities who are taking it very seriously.

Here's the straight stuff:
The Bible House is getting more and more polarized. The cracks are showing. Knowledgeable troops are restless, only the hardliners are satisfied.
That's true in the field too. An active CO told me last week he had pushed for years to get the Society to relent on the college thing, then in 1992 he rejoiced when certain GB members saw they weren't getting enough qualified personnel applying for Bethel service and made an "adjustment." He feels the km 6/1 has left him hung out to dry, "we've made a huge step backwards." If he proceeds as usual and ignores it, he's in trouble. After all these years he feels this viewpoint is plain dead wrong. Just one small area. Blood policy is another. Recriminations over not having a uniform policy for pedophiles. Trouble right here in River City--field men are conflicted.
Some very tough times ahead for old friends when the blood starts flowing.

over the years, circuit servants and then circuit overseers came and went.
i can only recall a handfull because the rest were unimpressive or i was not real active during the visit of some.
most cos that i recall were humdrum with perhaps some single interesting feature or personality quirk.
