Your nephew is certainly demonstrating "undeserved kindness" to someone he apparently has no obligation to do so. I hope he lets the elder know that the help he is receiving is coming courtesy of higher education!

Nephew Giving Once-Big-Shot-Elder Financial Aid
by snowbird inmy nephew is a graduate of an alabama university and harvard.. he didn't listen to the warnings about seeking higher education, and has a good job.. the elder sunk himself trying to keep his son, who did not apply himself in school, out of prison.. it's a sad situation, but it shows how foolish the wt's directives can be.. sylvia.

Not quite following the scenario: is the elder his dad or just an aquaintance, and is the one trying to stay out of prison his biological brother? And why has this person gone broke? Just not sure on the relationships here, but my, what lovely irony

Troubling experience at 1 day assembly re: little jw child
by williamhconley injust had my 1day assembly this weekend.
an experience given by the bethel speaker was quite troubling and shows how jw's live in constant paranoia, anxiety and they isolate themselves from normal living.. a first grade class was having a fire drill.
everyone ( except one) lined up and stood outside away fron the classroom in the grass.

kaik. Please, do not have such a distorted view of teachers in this country today. Yes, there are some bad teachers out there, but the majority care about their students. Think of the 6 teachers and administrators who died at Sandy Hook Elementary trying to shield the students from the gunman. And, no I am not a teacher but volunteered many hours at my daughters school. I was there once during a fire drill and I know for certain that the teacher is the LAST one out of the classroom.

That was really funny as a Candid Camera stunt, but in the context of comparing it with JW group-think, it's sad.

Great analysis by all of you. I really thought it was a put on till I downloaded and read it. My goodness, I would kill myself if I had to sit through that. I always hated assemblies and conventions, always thought they were a "rehash" or "prehash" of stuff we hear at the KH. Thirty years later, if I was still in, well, I really would have no gray cells left!

July 2014 WT says cremation is okay, such double standards!
by EndofMysteries inis cremation proper for christians?the scriptures do not present any basic objection to the practice of cremation.. there are biblical accounts relating that the bodies or bones of dead people were burned.

Wow, I never knew this. I Googled the origin of cremation and you are right, it is a pagan practice and some Christian denominations forbid it. It has become quite common lately among Witnesses that I know, including it being the request of my parents who were long time dubs. Very astute, your reasoning, comparing it with birthday celebrations. I will definitely remember that the next time the subject of birthdays comes up.

A Dummy's Guide to the 'This generation' doctrine
by Honesty ina jehovah's witness explains the watchtower society's 'this generation' doctrine..... .
http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/jehovahs-witness/t3heh0tafiuk6f9t3.
what do you think about his explanation?.

I think he is giving a convoluted definition of a generation. By his reasoning, my mother and I are of the same generation, she being born in 1920 and me in 1950, 30 years apart. He has people born 40 years apart being in the same generation. The dictionary definition of a generation is all of the poeple living at the same time or approximately the same age or peer group. I dont think I was in my mother's peer group! We have a family photo of my great grandmother, grandmother, mother, and my sister holding her newborn son. We always refer to at as the 5 generations photo, not the 2 or 3 generations photo. Witnesses will twist anything to fit their dogma: facts? We dont need no stinkin' facts!

Well thanks for reminding me how OLD I am! I too remember those tracks and the field service report slip. Do they still look like that? I remember that book too, a real book study gem. HA!
