Dr. Oz is the latest TV snake oil salesman who would sell his granny if he could make a buck. Tune in tomorrow for the latest miracle med which of course, is available for purchase on his website. And, really, who would hold their door open for a stranger to show them something on a tablet. No way is my door opening for that and I live in the relatively safe suburbs. How are the elderly JWs coping with all this, I have been wondering. -

How a Gay Jewish Boy from New England Came to Be and Leave the JWs (and what he did next)
by CalebInFloroda inborn in cambridge, ma to a liberal couple that escaped the conservative south, my parents raised me better than to become a jehovahs witness.
funny thing was they got mixed up in it first.. while that is a story for another time, i myself had to go along as the third of five children in my family.
dads job transferred him to texas and my mom worked fulltime herself, but eventually we found ourselves drinking the kool-aid of ambiguity intolerance and full-fledge belief that the bible was literal fact and that salvation was found only by those who were smart enough to enter the confines of the watchtower.. its weird how many people claim they fear children raised by two gay parents will grow up to be gay.

What an interesting life story! Can you imagine the announcement coming from the platform: Brother so and so has been disfellowshipped bcause he has a high IQ!!! Bear with me, I do not remotely fall into that realm, but I take it from your posts that you do not find the NWT all that accurate? -

God's Inception Style Punishment of Toddlers
by Simon inthis is a follow up to jehovah kicks a puppy about the garden of eden / serpent myth and the punishment for disobeying god.. anyone who has had kids knows that that they need to be taught what is right and what is wrong.
it's no point trying to discipline them if they have't learnt the rules first - they simply and fundamentally don't know something is wrong so punishing them in anyway is just asshole parenting of the worst kind.. i.e.
toddlers draw on the wall, that's what they do.

I just remember learning (50+ years go) that Adam and Eve knew what death was because they saw the animals die. Was that in the Bible or just an assumption by the JWs? -

But why are they never kicked out for gross obesity? I sometimes watch Hoarders and remember one episode where some Watchtowers were clearly visible. Don't know if the person was a JW or just took them because they wanted more trash in the house.

I do all the work inside, but I'm fortunate my husband is not a slob. I also do all the cooking, he generally won't even heat something up for himself if I am not home. He does everything outside. I wouldn't know how to start the mower or snow blower, but he enjoys yard work. I shovel snow sometimes for the exercise, but also to help him a bit cause you always worry about men shoveling snow. We each wash our own cars, except he does mine in the winter, nice guy! I guess you could say we are pretty even with chores, each doing what we are best at. -

she passed faithful to the end to them!
by jookbeard injust found out (second hand of course) and by someone on here that my faithful jw mum passed away within the last couple of days, dont know the exact day, and what cause, she spent the last few years living with my fanatical sister, she was 65 and survived my father by 10 years, bitter, angry and hateful till the end and never as so much enquired or asked how her 2 grandchildren ever were , they are 5 and 7!
feeling a mixture of emotions right now, they were lousy parents in all honesty, she suffered health wise so maybe its for the best, dont even know when the funeral is!

So sorry for you, and so sad on so many levels. When something like this happens I think it can be the best "witness" ever to the outside world of what this cult is really about. I would let everyone I speak to know how things went down with your family and this cult and let them judge for themselves if this is just a small, harmless religion that doesn't celebrate Christmas or take blood. That is about all most people know about them, not their hateful, shunning policy.
