  Lions eating straw....is this possible?

  i recall a jw telling me that.... "they" meaning scientists, had done study's on lions in zoo's and discovered that if they gave lions straw and grass to eat that the lions became very passive and no longer showed predator behavior??

  now they never explained who "they" were, or were these "study's" had been done or why based on these study's lions are not now fed grass etc

  has anyone else heard this for real?

  Cats eat grass for medicinal reasons, much as Black Sheep says.

  Animals that live on grass, herbivores in general, do have longer intestines and big stomachs. Ruminants have an extra stomach and chew the cud, for the simple reson that grass takes a lot of breaking down.

  Of course lions won't eat straw. My cats regularly chew a bit of grass, and usually choose to come indoors and if they can, go to sleep on a nice cushion on the settee before vomiting it up, but if I started feeding them grass at teatime they'd look at me as if I'd lost my head.

  The whole JW thing about Paradise Earth is BONKERS. They really belieive it, but it is utter rubbish!

  This good news of the kingdom will be preached ...

  so some of my jw friends can't answer a lot of the questions i put to them.

  invariably they end up with the comback line of "this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

  " and state that jws are the only ones doing the preaching.. i suspect most jws who've left have come across this.

  The thing that has got me right from the start about their reasoning over "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come."is that this was a prophecy.

  Is it valid to try to make a prophecy come true, and come true/be fulfilled within a timeframe of your choice by trying to make sure that a certain part of it is happening, and doing so ostentatiously, so that the second part is almost forced into action.? I don't think it is.

  In other words, to make something happen so that something else can happen. Almost as if the events are keys in a sequence.

  Perhaps I'm wrong but it just seems so cynically artificial. Does anyone else think as I do on this?

  Jw's forcing "niceness" on people

  i can't go into details but basically having been off the jw radar for years i'm now firmly back on it.

  just recently it feels like i can't move without a jw being in the way!

  they are trying a tactic with me which i've seen done many many times when i was a jw myself.

  I'm also being love-bombed at the minute, via text messages, phone messages and even cards through the door!

  They are just not getting the message that I've gone, I'm out of there, I've walked and nothing on earth is ever going to get me back.

  Hey, Highdose and Phizzy, I think I'm going to use that quiet and peace tactic with the "nice ones" though next time I see an elder I am going to be a whole lot firmer.

  A thought...anyone...do you think JW's know the meaning of the word hypocrisy?

  Seriously in need of opinions here

  an inactive jw guy, still close and in contact with jw family and some jw friends, wanting to marry a worldy christendom girl.

  he made their relationship known to everybody (family and friends).

  excited to get married to the girl and to start a life proper.. the jw thinking is still strong in him - doctrine, holidays, voting and stuffs; but indicated disagreement with some wts policies, teaching about wts being the only true religion, and did some research about wts, even read a part of coc.. what say you about this guy?

  Hmmm.

  DilemmaGF, I think you began two identical threads within about 3 hours of each other. I think you are the girlfriend in question, which I didn't realise when I replied in your thread on Dating JW', but this one under this title seems to have attracted much more than double the number of readers.

  In that thread I wrote

  "If he was a born in JW, and still believes all that stuff, then he might be "excited to get married and start a life proper", but the poor girl needs to RUN and RUN!

  JW's have a song in their rather trite Song Book for nearly every occasion. There's one that's entitled "Guard Your Heart". Please guard yours.

  You can test it out.

  I can do it myself! Next time my cats are due for a meal I'll go and pick them some nice juicy grass.

  Secret signal to find each other at District Convention

  last year this was brought up and it was a great idea but maybe a bit too late.

  do you remember the "secret signal" that was going to be used?

  it should not be mentioned in the main thread, only through email and pms.

  Well, I went to the Convention last year and looked for others with the secret signal, and saw absolutely no-one.

  Then I took mine off.

  Now, the thing is, we know that there are stalkers on here, ineviotably, bound to be, probably silent. So, any of them might have PM'd thoose organising this, mightn't they? I began to get paranoid at that Convention, and removed my sign in case it marked me out.

  This year, I wouldn't care if anyone saw me or not, but then, nothing on earth is going to drag me there again, so for me it doesn't matter. But it just feels a bit insecure, as it stands. For those that mind, that is...

  In love with a JW...

  two years ago i met the love of my life; someone i regard as my soulmate.

  he is an active jw and i am a practising church of england person.

  It's been hard to hear at times, and even harder to accept what you are all telling me, as wise as it is!

  It greatly saddens me, but I realise that I have some exceptionally hard decisions and choices to make with my future, and how to proceed...

  I've been thinking about you, CuriousUK, and wondering how things are looking another day on, and whether you've had any response to your emailed questions.

  I don't think I'm just speaking for myself here...I think all of us were very aware that what we said, with one voice really, wasn't going to be easy for you to take on board. Everyone knows what it feels like to feel you are in love. Reason is the last thing you want to hear.

  But so many people here have been too wounded by the JW's to want to see anyone just walk into it without "telling it like it is."

  Anyway, you know that. Just wanted to say I've been thinking about you.

  Is their any difference with the JW`s /Catholics fearmongering tactics ?

  the witnesses have never been backwards in denigrating the catholics for scaring their members with the threat of eternal damnation with the hellfire doctrine(,which they dont do anymore),however the wtb&ts are continually scaremongering their followers with the eternal destructionn of their members with armaggeddon if they dont adhere to the wt`s interpretation of current policy.

  Fearmongering tactics are much worse among the JW's.

  No shunning with the Catholics. No pressure. No imminent threat of death at Armageddon if you don't do things Jehovah's way, and that can mean down to the last detail of the clean car locally.

  Catholics do have the burden of sin laid on their shoulders at birth, but they also believe in a much more all-embracing divine forgiveness than anything on offered to the Witnesses, who have to work hard every day to "keep themselves in God's love" as the second compulsory book has it.

  Both are control groups, but one is much more gentle and all-welcoming.

  Catholics don't have elders coming round to "shepherd" you "out of love" in the form of a mighty kick in the teeth. And catholics do, on the whole, let you think for yourself. Think for yourself as a JW and you're out on your ear.
