Despite his spelling issues, an affliction I suffer with too... I think he makes an excellent point. How will you deal with that and sleep well at night?

Hello,
I wonder if some of you can all help? Having been a JW most of my life and now left, I would like to help people looking for answers find their way to them.
I have decided to start an evolution/science/medicine/religion blog with hopefully daily discussions based on the latest evidence and relevant news. I hope to encourage free thought and logical thinking that may aid a christian looking for answers, or entertain/ inform like minded people.I hope to learn a lot from other people who also feel the same way.
I dont want it to be a heavy serious place, but a 5 mins with a cup of coffee, read something interesting ..kind of source. To do this I need to know if the effort is worthwhile, so please support it if it interests you. I have exams soon so it will be a slow few weeks, but hopefully it will become an interesting source of info soon. (like an every man's version of Pharyngula)
I am currently a trainee doctor and if you are interested in a mix of all the above along with an occasional diary of my medical goings on please support my new blog "Science in Wonderland."
Take a look at it here ... science-in-wonderland.blogspot.co.uk
Thank you for your time and I understand if it's not your cup of tea (or coffee).

Is the Watchtower shy about repeating their new "generation" teaching?
by slimboyfat inas i recall in the 1980s talks and watchtower literature, magazines and books were always talking about the "generation" teaching and how it proved armageddon was going to come any day now.. but am i correct in thinking they have only actually mentioned the new "overlapping generations" teaching once or twice in the literature?
why are they so shy about talking about their great new interpretation?
it's almost enough to make you suspect they are a embarrassed about it.. mention it once or twice, don't dwell on it, hope everyone just accepts it, and don't bring it up again.

Leolaia, Ectopic beats are benign... lie back and enjoy
On a side note, I have started my first ever blog, it is about science / medicine and faith. I hope to offer a place of interest with daily (ish) updates on science/evolution/medicine news and progess all mixed in with a bit of a diary regarding my strange life as a trainee doctor. E.g. last week I spent most of my time inside peoples abdomens... i know... weird right?
Many colleagues have encouraged me to write a book or something of that kind as our ex=JW lives are quite a steer from the norm, so I finally have. I would love some support for the blog. Also I hope to encourage people of faith to read it, so the scientific and academic ones amongst JW net (you know who you are) I would love it if you could keep an eye and help anyone that comes looking for answers. Who knows may even catch a JW or two.
The blog is called "Science in Wonderland" and it is on t'internet ere...

This is horrifying to read, notice how they have gone backwards too... Now college is a no no again. These are people's lives they are flip-flopping with!
Education is not all about making money or getting amazing jobs, only JWs and conservative oldies are preoccupied with this idea. It's about knowledge, self development, expanding a passion, meeting people from around the world, finding your strengths and weaknesses and interests and for me, most importantly, learning how to critically appraise information. Not to mention the countless academic and sport activities outside your degree.
I am still in my degree but thanks to the university ethos of positive development, access to information, research facilities, research grants and networks of intellect and experience.... I am now an inventor, with a patent. I have a business with a Russell Group University as a partner (50/50). I have lead research for the invention with government funding, I have written papers, I hope to publish papers and audit healthcare policy next year. Most exciting, in may I have free reign to start my own 9 week research project, where I will make my first contribution to the worlds knowledge. What a privilege! There is less geeky stuff too, I have had the cool experience of working at cool sporting events too (f1 etc) and saving the best until last... I have helped people. This being by far the most rewarding! I spent my youth wanting to save lives, I help do it daily, all day now.
The invention has been evaluated to potentially prevent hundreds of thousands of people having a reduced quality of life and disease annually in the Uk. Also halting amputation and preventable irreversible damage. It has conservative estimates of saving 3000 lives a year in England and Wales, and saving the equiveant of a crashing jumbo jet full of people every 3 days in the USA ( odd analogy but the numbers equate.) The annual global figures, who knows!? In the uk it will save £300 million to the health service (conservative) a year. In addition to all this it will allow new unique research in saving lives. I am hoping we can build it in the uk and create jobs too.
Yet according to the Watchtower there is no future in my activities and I could make better use of my time.....
Would I give it all up to become a window cleaner / preacher for a book company again ? Would I swap it for my job back in Bethel? Would I in a million years swap my seat in University in exchange for my life of free labour building halls, assembly buildings, knocking endlessly on empty doors persuading middle aged men they needed a magazine on coping with the menopause, or keeping on the watch or that they just had to read the article on Jamaicas Coconuts, natures milkshakes! Nahhhhh I wouldn't.
Education is THE BEST thing you can do with your time, hence from 4 to 16 yrs old, modern society compells you to pursue it. Learning and contributing to the worlds knowledge base is something anyone and everyone can do! How many JWs actually pioneer? How many elders/elders wives pioneer? I don't mean the token 1 month to 3 months a year, I mean believing this shit so much you give your life to it!? Hardly any.... yet there are not paragraphs talking about the futility of those non pioneering people and their mindless careers and JW businesses! If a JW doesn't want to pioneer, easily 95%+ of them, then their argument does not stack up, if it's work in a shoe shop 3 years or better yourself with education with POTENTIAL for a better job, then do it! The reality is there are jobs after education, and when post grads can't get jobs, well duh guess who REALLY can't get jobs!? The no high school grades worth peeing on, experience in mowing lawns and public speaking JW!
As for the debt, this is spouted by people without an education debt for if they had been to uni they would know how the payback scheme works and it is perfectly fair (well...it was). If you can't afford it, you don't pay it. If you can afford it, you pay VERY little. I am accumulating £1300 a year fees to study Medicine + living costs of about £5000 a year. It's a 6 year degree, but the last 2 years are covered by the health service. It's a bargain!
I am shocked to hear how many JW children are taught at home nowadays and so insufficiently its at the point of being illegal. 7 hrs a day of organised curriculum for 12 years does not equate to baking cakes for cookery, cleaning the yard for DT and an hour of maths after a morning of ministry. It's disgusting and in my eyes tantamount to abuse, they are denying the child a future, autonomy and a fair chance at life!
Knowledge is power....... It's a saying for a reason!

Bethelite sent to India for heart surgery.
by marmot inan uncle of mine is a lifer at the brooklyn bethel and he was recently sent to india for open heart surgery.
it's so much cheaper compared to getting the procedure done in the us it's ridiculous.
does anybody know if it's the society that pays for all this or if it's up to each bethelite's own health insurance?

How About A Preparing For A Judicial Committee Booklet?
by DT inimagine if someone prepared a small booklet about preparing for a judicial committee that could be shared as either an actual booklet or a pdf.. i think it would be best if such a booklet were written in a neutral, nonjudgemental way, but have quotes from the elder's book that discuss the various rules that relate to judicial committees.
a complete list of disfellowshipping offenses could also be useful.
it could end with a few strategies and tips for dealing with a judicial committee.. it's only fair that jw's have access to the actual rules of judicial committees.

Why bother?
If you want to stay and fight them , then i dont know where to start...
If you want to leave then leave,
if you want to leave but don't want to be DF'd then be smart.
As for the elders court, if they want you out, your out... Forget some fancy lines repeated back to them from a pamphlet... You can read them verses from the bible that won't make a blind bit of difference. They have their commands from a higher source, Brooklyn docks.

Would You Be Willing To Adopt A GB Member?

would you be willing and able to provide some assistance like a job or affordable rent?.

You have literally repeated two of my posts from the last few days, great minds ?
Maybe a new approach will work? If we start being supportive for everyone we left behind and everyone whos lives got chewed up by the monster , it may dampen their squid.
Why not offer forgiveness, not even christian, plain old human forgiveness. Tell them we understand and encourage them to be honest and open. Make it known we will all see the people who are promptly willing to be honest housed and looked after. I think it is the biggest power the cult has over its leaders.... They have noting! The cult has become a perpetual motioning machine, but we can pull the plug right at the top by ensuring they can live if they choose to be honest. There can't be one GB member who doesn't know that this is a failed attempt to follow good intentions that has led to very bad circumstances. I think these guys struggle to sleep at night, I think we can help them. In the words of a daft punk, they are human after all ......

Is there any religion that has so much anti-apostate focus as JWs
by yadda yadda 2 ini'm surprised at how much is in the watchtower lately and at assemblies warning of apostates.
is it my imagination or is this ramping up a lot lately.
i am a born-in and stopped attending only a few years ago (now in my 40's) but don't remember so much anti-apostate warning as we see now.. the watchtower seems extra obsessed with apostates and the need to warn about them lately.

Everyone on this forum needs to watch the long Jason Beghe (the actor) interview on Scientology, it's on YouTube and it is fascinating. He was opening up for the first time after leaving and he describes feelings we have all had, you see him sink in shame and sadness as he realises what he once swallowed, once sacrificed, once believed. It is a great, great watch. Their apostasy fight is very serious, they will put posters with your personal confessions out all over the town, or take personal pages in the local paper attacking you if you leave. One member has seen personal Tom Cruise confessions, they said he could never ever leave because they would show his darkest secrets. Also if you think the JWs has done us harm, check out THE SEA ORG, it's a branch of Scientology for youths to volunteer for, kind of like bethel, but females are allowed to. They sign a contract for a billion years, that's right a billion years, to work for the SEA ORG, where they do the bidding of the leaders etc. they have a regimental life with no outside contact, no emotional ties, no family contact. Husbands and wives are separated to focus. If you manage to get pregnant they will help you to abort the baby, if you leave, like bethel you leave with your head down for not lving up to your contract. Research the sea org, it's horrid !
