  Why can't I just leave?

  some of you may know my situation.

  i'm still going to meetings, but i am a closet apostate and homosexual i. only keep going to meetings to please my family and some friends.

  i guess i could tell my mom i no longer want to be a jehovah's witness and stop going to meetings, but i'm too scared to do it.

  If you find attending is eating you alive from the inside, the ignorance, the xenophobia, the sexist, racist, homophobic, selfish view that JW's have of the world....

  then stop going...

  One day you will have to stop going, weigh up the benefits and cons of making that day.....today.

  p.s. I decided to go to the elders with my concerns. They told me to not go whilst I had such concerns. Happiest day I had in about 5 years, 5 years of depression, confusion, stress because I knew it wasn't true and didn't know how to leave, in the end it was simple.... you can just leave. It is FAR easier than people think. As for the reactions of family, you can't halt it, you can't live for them, it is their shame to carry if they put loyalty to an extremist, backward belief system over their own family. There will not be a magic moment where all your family and friends will say "oh yes look, it's bullshit!" And leave en masse with you. But people like you leaving, will help others see how easy it is to leave. You won't be the only one feeling like this in your congregation, there will be several.....

  i know this is going to come up in a conversation shortly, how would you respond to this?

  i've had it said to me before, specifically about health, one week wine/eggs/milk/axle grease is good for you, next week it's not..

  Ask them for examples.....

  The scientific method is only about 200 years old and has only really been applied to research and progress for about 100 years.,In that 100 years we have gone from horse and cart to lamding laboratories on comets.

  When someone says 'people once said the early was flat' that is irrelevant to the term science. Whilst people were saying this, some people were using geometry to calculate the circumference of the earth to three decimal places, this was relevant to science.

  These people won't be able to define science and won't have examples of science changing, Evidence does not change, evidence is added to and can have various interpretations. science is the gathering of evidence and of course as we gather more we learn more and our interpretations can increase.

  The staple test to see if science is a valid method is to see whether it works...does it answer questions and solve problems? it clearly does.

  Read them the scientific method. Explain who a scientist is. Explain the difference between newspaper articles about anacdotal opinion and 10 year random controlled trials, double blinded, with results indicating 'x'.

  No doubt about it, once you distance yourself from 'the organisation' (clue) and then return to visit friends/family, you see just how bizarre they are in beliefs and actions. My last encounter, a meal with several my age left me embarrassed how ignorant to world events they were. Then there was the constant homophobia and racism. This all in 2hrs over a meal. I was so shocked by the encounter and happy to go home, ashamed that I had been like that not so long ago.

  The levels of ignorance can not be ignored. It's astounding what a JW will cold faced claim in 2014.

  Indeed this is not unique to JW's, but then we are here because that is what we have experienced.

  If you are questioning our doubtless bias on this topic of weirdness, a 10 min chat with an average person will send home the message loud and clear. Normal people think JW's are bat shit crazy.

  have you investigated gnostic christianity?.

  the gnostic wing of christianity, if it can even be called that today, has quite a few differences to christianity and catholicism.

  if the old gnostic christians were here, they would hardly recognize what has happened to the original orthodox catholic church or its various offshoots in protestantism and islam.

  my goodness that was nothing !

  a letter was read today from bethel addressed to all congregations in britain that can only be described as the biggest news for years.the main points:.

  Erm..... Remember that recent new USA wide request of a minimum monthly pledge from every member because of all the kingdom halls to be built.......and now, what two months later, the UK has an opposite request, selling them all off and squishing 4 congregations into one.

  Does God have old age dementia?

  Does God hate brits?

  Is this new new light?

  Is the chariot in reverse?

  Are the current members so lacking in courage that they humble themselves still. before the mighty hand of an obvious financial con?

  Walk away people, while you have a chance to start a pension.....

  Science is right in its details, but wrong in its direction

  science observes, studies and analyses the basic nature of all the components constituting the part of any experiment, follows the principle of cause and effect, and come out with equipments that would contribute to our comfort and save us lots of time and energyall of which are ultimately aimed at making life on this earth happier, longer and healthier, thus making this world a better place to live.. yet man day-by-day becomes more and more unhappy and discontented, and world is becoming bitter and bitter!

  it means: though science is right in its details, it has gone wrong in its direction.

  it failed to rightly judge and assess the true nature of its prime object (man) for whom it works.

  Your view of the world could not be more alien to what most people think. It is a false image the Watchtower sold you as do many religions,and you have not questioned.

  Name just one year in history when life was better than it is now........

  The old men that run watchtower live as all aged humans, with yearning for their youths. That melancholy for today's world was suffocating as a JW and it was also untrue. The world hasn't gone mad, our grandparents grew up on world wars, mass pandmedics and atom bombs. The Victorians had war, disease and the industrial revolution that offered living conditions and quality of life from hell.... Shall I continue? ....

  i was talking to an uber dub friend last night who lives in the san diego area.

  he knew nothing of the $13.5 million dollar law suit.

  when i tried to tell him that this is a systemic problem, and that this could perhaps be the tip of the ice burgh.
