All fanatical religions end up with the same principle that allows them not to care. It started with the Catholic Inquisition:

It later was restated for the US military:
"Kill them all, Let God sort 'em out"
And that's the way it is. If you were righteous, you get resurrected and if not, so what?
Ordinarily, I am skeptical about any moral governance by atheists but on this score, they seem advantaged.

i think everyone here can agree that walking down the street, even in the middle of the street, is not cause for having a clip emptied in your ass......... i can understand how the black community would be outraged by the injustice of seeing another black man dead in the street at the hands of the police under mysterious circumstances....... i hope that i'm not succumbing to the attempts to assinate the already well impuned character of the dead man...... however.
i can't help but think that this could all have been avoided by exercising the proper discretion with fore-knowledge of the disadvantages people of color have when they are dealing with law enforcement in the united states.
it is not as if this disadvantage has only since recently came to light.
Polls say there is a lack of trust of police, even without the racial aspects. Big changes need to be made.

the annual meeting of the governing body of jehovah's witnesses will be in october 2014.. .. in november 2013, just after the last one they published this now famous statement in the 15th of november 2013 watchtower page 16 paragraph 17 says:.
"at that time, the lifesaving direction that we receive from jehovahs organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.

If the organization lost net growth, it would not be as big a deal as some think. They just would stop publishing all statistics for the world and then publish only those that look good.
There are all sorts of radical changes they can get away with because they can count on Witlesses being uncritical thinkers. They are eager to delude themselves and take no notice of obvious problems - kids leaving, lack of elders, reductions in magazines and literature, layoffs of Bethelites, elimination of DO's........
These kinds of things would set off alarms in most businesses - but when do you ever hear Witnesses get concerned about them?
The GB is utterly free to do whatever they wish. They could even manage getting rid of DF'ing, if they had to and still keep their thralls hypnotized and uncomplaining. About the only thing they need to worry about is passive-aggressive behavior such as wallet closing and outright lying about lawbreaking. For our purposes, maybe that's enough.

i remember the "boy's club" mentality from many of the bethelites in the 70's and 80's.
it seemed there were a number of males who were "effeminate" back in the day.. i knew of one guy that was told by the bethel brass that he would "go places" at headquarters if he could learn to deepen his voice and tone down his gestures a bit (and he was told it wouldn't hurt if he ever married a fellow bethelite sister).
this man was extensively used at conventions, became less "gay looking" and got married.. so my question is, did you see effeminate men in bethel?
I think the gay purge back in the '60's may have been a bit of a witch hunt. You had brothers rubbing each others backs and feeling good and getting accused. I later heard that some of the expulsions were regretted.

It captures that which I've been feeling for some time now. They are cynically exploiting the friends.
They do less and less for publishers but also try to whip them into a frenzy. It's truly cold-hearted. As I've suggested before, they may have realized how futile their "disciple-making" work is, as it now attracts the chronically sick, the unemployed, the mentally ill and third world people who have only pennies to offer.
More and more worth less and less - relative to Watchtower greed. Now it's time for 'devil take the hindmost'.

i was talking to an ex-bethelite who was at the 'big house' in the late 60s and early 70s and he mentioned that daniel sydlik was exiled (asked to leave bethel) for a couple years when he married his wife (who at the time was very young and very much his junior).
according to this ex-bethelite, his marriage was somewhat controversial and they didn't want it to stumble anyone at the time, so he still stayed in the nyc area, but just not in bethel?
of course, this was when they had the corporation director format and before they officially adopted the governing body structure.
