  My last meeting as an elder

  the thread on judicial committes reminded me of my last meeting.

  as a jw elder.

  a major rift had developed on the body of elders.

  God, where do I even start? These Taliban bastards I worked with
  made certain that kids from out of favor parents got examined
  under a microscope and df'd - while elders kids got every
  possible allowance (ooops! forgot to tell everyone the bride
  got pregnant!) and their hands slapped.

  There were sub plots I can't figure out to this day. The reality
  is that countless congregations of JWs are ruled by an "inner circle".
  You can be an elder for years and never know what's really going
  on in the congregation - because the inner circle wants it that
  way.

  Are you an elder reading this? Try sneaking a key to the congregation
  secretary's file (usually kept at the hall). Take a couple hours
  to find out what's really going on - judicially and otherwise.

  of course, don't make copies of everything that's confidential
  in the congregation files , diassociate yourself and publish
  copies everywhere....

  no, don't do that - it would upset the Society.

  It goes into huge detail about recent breakthroughs in
  research like:

  Caloric restriction DOES slow down - and can even
  partially reverse aging in all animals and people.
  It even works in old animals. You gotta understand
  the importance of this - if they know this therapy
  extends life and health, then it gives them a point
  of comparison WITH OTHER THERAPIES being developed.

  One other thing! - that's very important! People have
  been unable to make any progress on stopping aging
  because they can't effectively analyse it - UP TIL NOW!

  What's changed? Why is there going to be a sudden
  burst of progress on anti-aging? Answer: the DNA chip!

  By combining microelectronics manufacture with modern
  biology, scientists have created a 'chip' which can
  detect exactly what genes are turned on or off in a
  human or animal. Because of this remarkable new tool,
  they can now rapidly analyse the aging process and
  determine ways to stop it, WITHOUT WAITING FOR YEARS
  TO SEE IF SOMETHING WORKS (hey, even chimps live
  to be 40 or so).

  Still not convinced? Most of a month ago, the news got
  buried amidst reports of terrorism - but some leading
  scientists got together and predicted that there would
  be huge progress on stopping aging in the next TEN YEARS!
  They concluded that leaders should be discussing how
  society should adapt to this probability! ( Critiquing
  Human Lifespan - it's over in the Forum section at
  www.lef.org)

  Lets wipe out death
  in our lifetime!

  I really wish the Dateline story could be aired soon. I hate
  using the word 'opportunity' here but a real opportunity
  may exist to save other Witness children from the cruelty
  of the Watchtower Society and its extremism. This could be
  a perfect moment to expose the organization and its coverups
  of child abuse - both physical and sexual.

  exactly what I said, itsjustme.

  I don't know if I still have a copy of the official letter
  from the Society to all bodies of elders but basically it
  says that you can't just resign - they have to allow you to
  quit. The body of elders must meet and determine if they accept
  your resignation. I personally went thru this and others can
  verify the policy - we debated it over at the old h2o site.

  They can't let go, they are almost determined to find some fault
  or reason for letting you go.

  The elder arrangement is filled with corruption. It's really
  sad because there was a lot of hope when it started back in
  the 70's. There was a sense of egalitarianism about it and
  it looked like there would be solid emphasis on building
  Christian principles in congregations.

  Well, that dream died - it degenerated into unyielding
  emphasis on hours in service and upholding cult rules.
  Bodies of elders are mostly "good old boys" who cover
  each other's asses. You can get away with just about
  anything if the rest of the body wants to overlook it.
  - and the Society goes along with the mess because they're
  losing servants. You have to laugh when they publish letters
  FORBIDDING elders from resigning! You have to get permission
  to quit, first.

  kinda like a cheap Readers Digest for people with a junior
  high school reading level.

  The Society seems obsessed with Nazis - I would think
  given the age of such survivors, that this obsession will
  shortly come to an end - many of these people must be in their
  eighties or so.

  For many tired, discouraged Witnesses there is an important
  claim here - Divine Favor

  A tired elder told me that "Jehovah didn't allow the Nazis
  to destroy JWs , so he won't allow the organization to fall
  apart today".

  Sorry, wrong again. Take a good look at a partial list
  of countries that suffered under Nazi or Fascist rule:

  Germany
  France
  Spain
  Netherlands
  Czech Republic
  Belgium
  Austria
  Japan
  Denmark
  Poland

  Guess What? Everyone of these nations suffered a loss
  of publishers last year.

  Nazis aren't going to save the Watchtower from
  decline and defeat. Why should they? An organization
  that is nearly as nihilistic (99.9% of the human race
  will die at Armageddon) as the Nazis doesn't deserve
  to survive.

  They might have learned mercy, compassion, justice and
  charity from what the Fascists lacked - instead the
  Watchtower is just another authoritarian/corporate
  regime that will justly fade away into history.

  Having Children Inside vs Outside The Organizatio

  i feel cheated because i wouldnt know what its like to experience pregnancy and the birth of my children the way it was meant to be.. a completely natural and joyous event in human life was sabotaged by this religion!.

  im sure there are others who know what i mean.. i would be interested to hear stories of others who have had children both inside and out of this organization.. i would like to explain what i mean.. i was raised as a witness and was always expected to be an example.

  from as far back as i can remember we were taught that armageddon was just around the corner.

  Let me add a little history here.

  During the 20's, 30's and 40's, you had a lot of Rutherford
  inspired Witlesses who avoided getting married and having kids.
  They often ended up as sad, lonely, eccentric types who would
  express private regret that they never had a family. They wasted
  their lives listening to the Society - which published books
  that told them that "Jonadabs" shouldn't be having children
  and that "ancient worthies" resurrected could guide them as to
  choosing marriage mates. I believe the famous "Children" book
  talked about this. I know about this subject because of some
  in my own extended Witless family - who felt shunned and
  condemned at the time for marriage and kids - but later felt
  vindicated by the turn of events.

  Proving you can go against what the Society advises and be
  much better off for it.

  Good for you, joelbear.

  I've tried to make this point before with eternal torment
  being mentioned in Rev. 20:10 but Witlesses never catch on.
  You take one plain forceful dramatic scripture and drain its
  meaning - why not do the same with all of the Bible?

  if you are a "mere" publisher, not currently occupying a position, dont try fooling around like this.

  Exactly so. My experience is the same - elders are becoming
  utterly corrupt. You can discern the degeneration of the elder arrangement if you compare the discussions on disqualifications
  back in the late 70's with now. As Crisis of Conscience reports,
  the GB had to debate about removing elders if their kids went
  to college or got df'd. Now, you have elders guilty of lying,
  fraud, adultery, and theft - as long as the C.O. and local body
  let you off, it's OK with the Society.
