KS, you're so silly! That whole thing where you pretend to be stupid and write a post like the one you just wrote is pretty funny. But doesn't that joke belong on a thread about logical fallacies, or something? Or is it just that you think it's never the wrong time for comedy gold?

And the beat goes on de de dum de de dum
JW-ism ain't a disease, it's a symptom of a disease. Leaving the JWs just cures the symptom. Exhibit A: this thread.

Of course! There should be nothing at all beyond the grasp of the State! Nothing outside the State, nothing beyond the State, nothing except the State!
Now fly! my little pretties!

OK, I'll repeat myself. Why are you so dumb?
Here's what I mean: do you suppose you are the first person to have discovered all that stuff in scripture? If lots of people smarter than you have been reading these books for thousands of years (assuming you allow the possibility that there exist people who have ever been smarter than you) and have somehow concluded that scripture is not all garbage, does it occur to you that they may have something useful to say about the subject? Or are you so taken with your own amazing smarts that you don't need to pause to consider that the civilization that thinks these works are worthwhile are really worthwhile?

Since the Bible can't usefully be read the way ignorant fundamentalists read it, it must be that the Bible can't usefully be read at all!
How did any of you fall of the JWs, keen wits that you have?

by traveb indidn't see this posted already so i thought i would start a new topic.
three-page article about in vitro fertilization and what to do with frozen embryos.
the way i read it is everything to do with ivf is a conscience matter unless it involves a 3rd party then it's considered porneia.

Glander, the process of freezing embryos is pretty standard, as I understand.

They STILL might be DFing me soon for apostasy...
by RayPublisher inbig news - i met with the elders last night.
they were not arrogant and they were not mean spirited, but of course we all know they also would not budge from the jw brainwashed beliefs they are sworn to uphold.
i let my light shine, and within two minutes of sitting down with them was no longer nervous.. .

No, you're DF-ed. You just don't know it yet.

Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses is NOT the same as the doctrines leaving you
by Terry inif you grow up speaking english and you move to mexico you don't automatically speak spanish, know customs, understand currency, possess skills.
for self-support or have any special insight into latino mindset.. .
why would you expect leaving jehovah's witnesses would leave you any less ill-equipped to navigate the real world?.

I was out on a date with a lady who was a psychologist. She was intelligent, well-read, interesting and non-religious.
Somehow or other the conversation drifted (why--I don't know) thanks to me....to the "days of Noah".....
I started telling her, matter-of-fact style, about angels who came down to earth and had sex with women which resulted in the birth of giants....!
The expression on her face as she realized I WAS SERIOUS....instantly clued me just how damned STUPID I was for ever believing this story!
...
After that I started questioning my own sanity!!That is the most horrible story anyone has ever told. Better for you if you had just gone ahead and shit your pants, rather than start that conversation about the Flood. Wow.

The main theological idea is that Jesus returned to re-establish the Church he established back in the day -- the one that failed even though he said it would never fail. So, Church re-established as the JWs (who pass the test due to their superior and unique desire for the true religion -- as opposed to actually teaching the true religion, as they admit) is here to tell people about the end of all things.
So, that would be what was accomplished.

Did you have to try another church or religion on your way to unbelief?
by donny inback in 1992 when i was slowly extricating my way out of the wacthtower, there was no internet, smart phones or any other type of quick data download available.
i had basically 3 choices to obtain viewpoints from ex-jw's.. #1 - go to go to the library and look for books critical of the society.
#2 - go to a christian book store to look for the same.. #3 - order item like these from addresses or phone numbers listed in the back of these publications.. and while doing any of these things, you were always looking over your shoulder to see if any "brothers" were around.. the problem i experienced is that virtually all of these books, while giving you good reason to doubt the watchtower, always pointed to "christendom" as the way you needed to go.

Heh. I was agnostic / atheist directly after being a JW. It just seemed natural given the near-atheism of the JWs. But I couldn't stick with it: it required too much blind faith.
