I remember the thing about the birds multiplying. I remember my sister and I walking to school, seeing big crows circling around, and saying, "Look! Armageddon must be close!" I cannot believe I was so stupid. (She's still in.) I remember the International Year of Peace thing in '86 as well. We were all so certain this was it. And then when George Bush Sr started talking about the "new world order," we figured something was up.

by Brummie in...that helped the wt to recover after 1975 failure.

can you document any?.

Demons and feathers
by Narkissos inbrummie's thread about "unwritten prophecies" made me think more broadly about unwritten stuff among jws.
this one is not a prophecy, sounds more like a "urban legend".. there were stories circulating among french jws in the 70's about people suffering of some unexplained illness, until strange demonic "artworks" were discovered in the feathers of their pillows.
some were almost dying as the "work" was almost completed.

I remember one family where I used to live in the US, saying that they heard a heartbeat in their bed, and the husband took an axe to it. *rolls eyes* Apparently, some weird junk oozed out of it. They swore it was demons.
Yeah, OK. Demons ooze when you chop them up with axes.
They neglected to realise that when it's really quiet, and you're laying down with your ear flattened on the pillow, you can hear your blood pumping. Well, at least I can. *shrugs*
They were strange anyway. They got mad at me because I finally had enough of their mentally-unstable son threatening to rape and kill me, and I reported him to the police. The elders told me to consider the source. I WAS considering the source. He was a violent person. -

I'm so sorry. I wish I knew what to tell you. The only thing I can suggest is to seek professional help, both of you together, because this situation is too tough to try to handle on your own.

It's like going to a vending machine in which every single slot is filled with stale pretzels. Look! You're free to choose whatever you want! I'm so glad I'm free of all that controlling crap.

Distractions at the Convention
by Nosferatu ini read the post where some kid let go of a helium balloon at a convention, and everyone was watching it.
when i used to attend the conventions, i loved distractions.
i always heard multiple "pssst" sounds from people opening cans of cott cola.

I was one of those ones who wore long skirts with long slits. Of course, I got counselled on it, by an elder who had just been told to tell me it was immodest by his wife.
"I loved it when birds would fly into the convention center (waiting for it to poop on someone)."
That someone was my mother.
Looking for cute brothers occupied a lot of time. Writing notes to my sister. Daydreaming. I tried to be a "good" JW. But I didn't always succeed. I watched the birds flying around, watched the brothers who got to run around doing their "important" jobs, watched people going up an down the stairs, envied the people who brought pillows and fell asleep, counted how many talks were left till I could eat lunch, tried to figure out where to go to dinner afterwards, tried to find one of my friends who had a baby and then volunteer to watch the baby for a while so they could concentrate ;). But the best was when my brother came along. I am nearly 15 years older than him, so I took him with me to the conventions...always gave me something to do. -

I feel for you, Lostreality. The same thing happened to me here. Someone has been telling my abusive family what I've said here.
To me, it doesn't matter. If that's how they get their enjoyment in life, then they're really sad. You and I both know that it's much better outside that stupid organisation, and we're the ones who are actually happy and enjoying life. They're still stuck under the "do more" thumb of the Society. They're the ones wasting their lives.
Don't be angry...pity them for having such pathetic lives.

Remembering Halloween As A JW Kid . . .
by Corvin ini remember my mom and my aunt making us kids open the door to the trick-or-treators and instead of giving them candy, we had to put wt and awake!
magazines (back issues) in their bags.
how embarrassing.. anyone else have the same experience?.

Halloween was the one holiday I really longed to celebrate. I wanted to dress up in costumes, etc. We always hid in a dark house, in fear of little children. *rolls eyes* We never got egged or TP'd that I can remember.

I had one of the aforementioned pity/loneliness studies with an older woman who lived with her sister. The sister was really smart. She made a lot of good points, but back then, I was so brainwashed, I thought she was crazy.
I knew even then it wasn't going anywhere, and I didn't study with her indefinitely. I was never good at Return Visits anyway.

The 2004 Report. What do you think it wiil show?
by aniron inhaving read "seven006" posting "the information age and new jw marketing changes" and the view it put forward of were the watchtower found itself now.. i was wondering what the 2004 service year report would show.
i think there will be a small increase, due to there play on world events and the usually jw family members getting baptised to please parents etc.
anyone else have any views on what it could be.

Will the Society stop issuing reports at some point, perhaps with an article likening it to the census in ancient Israel?
LOL! "New light!"
Remember those incredibly boring Watchtower studies (yeah, THAT'S specific) where you had to sit there and spend an hour going over an article talking about the report?
I've seen 2 JWs (doing their pioneer shuffle together) in the 2+ years I've lived in France, and they completely ignored me, a potential sheep! Maybe I am clearly visible as a black sheep?
I think it'll show less growth, but they'll still manage to show some growth so they can say Jehovah is blessing them, but that the time is close!
I never understood why the anointed count went up.

(((WorfGirl))) that was nice from you hubby (but somehow a duty) Still he must be strong to be able to listen and not punch !
He wasn't my hubby then. We didn't get married until nearly a year and a half later. We were just starting off in the romantic part of our relationship (we were friends first), and he helped me carry my emotional baggage right from the start. Now he's helped me get rid of it for the most part.
