I am sensing a theme on most threads lately.
The haves (faith) and the have nots (faith)
1- pray to god (whomever you may imagine him to be) asking for understanding.
2- study the background about the bible (from non-religious sources) to see where it came from.
3- discard (or at least set aside) chuyrch claims and dogma.. 4- read it, looking up archaeological/historical sources about the places and peoples referred to.

i get tired of using the argument of "the mystery of evil" to attack god but where are we when we see heroic acts of godly courage from great humans like dr. kent bradly and dr. nancy writebols wonderful works of love?
did you listen to dr. kent bradley's concern and loving compassion for west africa?
he's not angry superstitious mobs destroyed several make-shift medical facilities to treat victims of ebola, no, dr. bradly implored the world to "help save west africa".
So if healings "prove" there is a god, wouldn't complete lack of healing prove there isn't a god?
Nope.
Too simplistic.
Still too cause and effect.
Developmentalists tell us that when a baby is born it thinks it is the center of the universe.
The goal is to at some point grow out of that way of thinking.

I dont know if God exists or doesnt.
No one does.
I do know this much: The answer does not lie in the direction of trying to prove exixtance by goodness
or prove non existance by evil.
And yet, that is what most humans do.
"Oh there most be a God because __________________________ happened"
or
"There cant be a God because __________________________ happened.
Both are way too subjective and emotional to decide such an important question.
last month i decided to attend the international convention at metlife since my sister's cong was invited so she took me along with my older brother.
my sister drove and my older brother sat in the front seat of her suv.
i was in the back seat with the greatest watchtower apologist/loser/eldermole in the universe my bil.. they were all chatting away about how this assembly filed with regurgitated spiritual stool was a sign of the last days since so many people would be in attendance.
I remember getting in trouble for some of my music.
I think it was Def Leppard
Your parents sound cool though. Not too over reactive.
this is a theological examination of the topic for those who still might be troubled with the watchtowers interpretation of the matter.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwnlyym32ts.
I thought they were backing off but didnt it get mentioned again in a publication recently?
It sure looks like they are backing off in the elders manual though.
since many years the nov public wt has only one color and no picture on the front cover.. very strange.
so the design department saves time and can go from door to door ...... .

Love that June Cleaver apron!
Looks like the cookies burned and caused some smoke in the kitchen.
(Thats what she gets for NOT being out in the tract work)
religions, in general, did not inspire people to be good, because the means they used was illogicality.
for example: one religion teaches: humans became sinners through one man, and would become righteous through another man.
no answer!
Nice post Pinku,
Einstein is so interesting to me whenver he tried to express himself on the topic of God.
child abuse in the usa.
child abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional maltreatment or neglect of a child or children.
in the united states, the centers for disease control and prevention (cdc) and the department for children and families (dcf) define child maltreatment as any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child.
I dont feel abused.
Not when I look at the majority of children all down through history and those alive today in most countries.
I had a "weird" upbringing but being different than other children taught me some critical thinking skills I believe.
Those same critical thinking skills are what are helping me to now exit myself from the JWs.
They should have never honed my sense of justice so finely perhaps?
so recently a governing body helper gave a part on the convention.
he said young ones who are saying and not financially ready should knock it off.
what conflicting advice.
Funny OneEyedJoe!
To add insult to injury, I know a 21 yr old young man who was removed as a MS because his wife didnt turn 18 until two months after the wedding.
Apparently the elders were upset that they were so young. But fornication would have been wrong too.
He was financially ok - she just was too young.
Another situation where ya just cant win........
i'm a born in, born in the 1980s and old enough to remember studying beefy (albeit full of crap) material like the the evolution book and revelation book (which we studied over and over and over and over).
books and brochures were wordy and chock full of legalistic language explaining away teachings and policies, some explanations slightly above the iq of the average person.. watchtower studies were longer (30 paragraphs sometimes), talks were longer and thus meetings were longer, pioneering was harder (70 hours if i remember correctly), assemblies and conventions were longer, and there were intricate food provisions to feed thousands of people (for a cost of course).. the average jw could recite watchtower propaganda for hours to indoctrinate others or defend their faith.
jws were interested in having meaty discussions at the door and challenging even pastors on doctrinal points.. i know this has been said many times, but the organization has gone through a massive dumbing down.. i can't figure out if it's due to the oblivious nature of the current governing body, a premeditated attempt by them at dumbing down the organization, or just the effects of life becoming easier around the globe due to reliance on technology.. i can only speak on my era, and i know that from the early 90s until around 2004 the organization was allot more doctrine savy.. over the past decade or so i'd say the collective iq of the followers has moved from 105 to 85.. indoctrination and blind belief has allot to do with being prone to be emotionally manipulated, but thinking ability has a say in that too.. social media is a decent gauge of how and what the average person within a certain demographic is thinking, and doing a simple hashtag search on twitter, instagram, or facebook reveals allot about how the current generation of young jws (15-28 or thereabout) are thinking.. many have become self obsessed, internet obsessed, hubris filled and passive, i can see an even bigger decline in growth over the next 5 years.. take a look:.
I agree with JW07 and Magnum.
I have witnessed to many priests and ministers. Mostly over the trinity or hellfire. Its been YEARS since anyone at the door wanted to talk about anything like that.
The householders dont have the religious knowledge they used to.
Jws dont either.
I have begun to think the Society lost the good writers. Like Barbara Anderson for instance. There seems to be a lot of copy/paste in the newer literature. I dont think they have any writers who can manufacture anything.
