I had to check!

i have noticed an apparently increasing number of men who are not interested in becoming ministerial servants or elders.
i also know of some that have voluntarily stepped down (which is my case) for no obvious solid reason.. i remember, during my teenage years or even during my twenties, the brothers were always looking forward to being appointed... although many still do, i have noticed there are many others with whom you do not know what the deal is.. since there is no freedom of speech within the organization, we remain in the dark about the motives and desires of everybody else.
i attend a congregation with only two ministerial servants, while it is full of men who do not seem to be willing to do more.. it is hard to tell exactly what is going on, since honesty is not possible while you are inside, but i am starting to think that more and more are becoming disillusioned.... .
Very honest answer there Apognophos and I am sure you are right that there are elders that are in it for the right reason.
Many of them have ended up here now.
Makes me glad Im a woman. I would have been chewed up by the system I think.
2014
The year of awakening!
i'll restrain myself from commenting on jw.org's perversion of this scripture - i'll leave that to others.. however, for lurkers and active witnesses here, why not ask one of your local glorious ones to explain how these non-scriptural words found their way into the silver sword, but don't appear in the original greek, or even in the kingdom interlinear.. (2 corinthians 9:13) "through the proof that this relief ministry gives, they glorify god because you are submissive to the good news about the christ, as you publicly declared, and because you are generous in your contribution to them and to all.".

Thank those of you who have done so much thoughtful research.
I deeply appreciate it.
do jehova wingnuts believe jesus birthday isn't dec 25?
or do they just plain and simple not believe in any birthday?.
In addition, they dont celebrate certain holidays perceived as having pagan origins such as the winter holidays.
tonight as i was putting my son to bed, we were looking out his bedroom window from his bed, down upon the neighbors' house across the street.
they have a beautiful, big sparkly christmas tree in their front window and my son gazed at it and said, "that's what's missing from our family.
" talk about daggers through the heart!.
Since your kids are so young still that means their imaginations are still active. Is there a way that you can spend time with family that have a tree up?
That gives them time to enjoy it.
Also, making some popcorn and add in some candy and go driving to look at the lights. Its a fun time for kds and adults; maybe make some hot chocolate too!
I love going to the local coffee shop and sitting and enjoying the pretty tree while I drink my coffee.
Its not the same as having a tree but it is the best I can do for now.

The good men with some semblence of conscience are stepping down; the hole is filled only by the most devoted WT suck-up. I saw this repeatedly right before my exit. Good men were essentially driven off of the BOE or couldn't take the pressure of serving with a body of men running roughshod over the Cong. and stepped down. Given enough time, only the power-hungry, self-serving, consciousless politician-types are left to run the show.
Do we have a best post of the daybutton here?
This is so true and very well put.
i was going through old email and i came across the below email from a former acquaintance of mine who is a jw.
when we were both jw's, we were both pretty liberal in our beliefs.
its quite interesting how cognitive dissonance kicks in, for many & not too much for others.
The email mentions "the rich spiritual history"
The actual facts are the "history" is very short - only a little over 100 years. And it isnt "rich" in any way by any standard.
If the above words were to be true it would have to be said about the Jews.
They actually have a history and like it or not - it is rich.
so, i'm visiting family this week who are all jws.
yesterday, it started with one of them talking about a co giving her some points on time keeping for service.
she is now writing a letter before she drives to service, so she can count her drive time.
Hi myjourney! I see you are new here.
I like your "name" a journey is a fitting way to describe it!
back when i was learning ttatt, i was shocked to read on jwfacts about the organ transplant ban from 1967 to 1980. this was a large piece of evidence for me that the society could not be god's organization.
growing up as an earnest witness, and living near the headquarters, i knew a lot of the organization's embarrassing history, and it didn't faze me, but i'd never heard of this ban before, and it shocked me.
it's gotten me wondering why no one i know ever talks about it, when it must have affected many witnesses during that time (or were they getting transplants on the sly?
I remember ai little paragraph in the back of an Awake during that time period. It was about a man who had a heart transplant and was showing signs of acting like the person who gave the heart.
Im sure they found the little blurb somewhere but they paseed it on because it supported their previously held ideas. It was obviously slanted to show how bad the idea was.
A few decades later in the video "Knocking" there they are glamorizing transplants in their bloodless surgery part of the video. Why? Because they had convinced the Drs to do it "their way" (running blood through cell savers etc)
Like mentioned above, so many policies change based on the prevailing winds of the time. None of them were ever Bible based so I guess that makes it possible to "change them.
Change (sadly) seems to be based on legalities and lawsuits - not on updates from the "Holy Spirit".
