First they put some paper in a brazier and if the smoke blows white then they........
oh wait a minute!
there are a few jw's i know who believe that when the gb takes a decision this is what happens:.
each member goes into a separate room, prays about something.
after that, they get together and they all have the same thought about the issue.. what are the craziest ideas you heard about the way they are "guided".
First they put some paper in a brazier and if the smoke blows white then they........
oh wait a minute!
a friend of mine that is df went to hall today someone held door for him he thanked them ,soon after and elder aproached wispered in his ear "you cant talk to anyone" the pharisees .
Well not that it will make a difference but the elder is wrong.
A person saying excuse me when they sneeze or step on someones foot - or a thank you is not breaking their restrictions as one disfellowshipped.
Its conversation that is "unscriptural" according to them. This would be anything conversational however brief, including saying a "greeting" such as "Hello" or "How Are You?" .
So they Pharisee elder just gulped a camel and strained at a gnat. He doesnt even know the finer technacalities of his own rules he is entrusted with enforcing.
the wt study this week made me feel sick!
it is one of the most blatantly un-scriptural articles i have ever seen!
in these paragraphs we see how we should treat our neighbor ... so, what examples do we have of loving our neighbors?
Why do Jehovahs Witnesses have to be reminded to be
thoughtful?
tactful?
use discretion?
be kind?
most people are taught this stuff in kindergarten and by their parents and grow up and assume their place in the world and just naturally display these qualities to whatever degree their personality and rearing geared them to.
The average person does not sit down and read a Watchtower using pre/adolescent level language to "teach/nag/cajole the behavior out if them. Life teaches you that if you want people to like you - you play nice.
Why do the Witnesses need "extra" reminding above and beyond and why do they fail at the basics even in spite of the "reminders"?
i know there's no such word as "witnessy" but this can be a fun thread.
"accepted for a month at Walkill"
(translation: going to work their butt off for free in return for status recognition in their local cong.)
anointed christians knew that 1914 would mark a turning point regarding divine rulership.
as soon as they discerned the fulfillment of bible prophecy, they boldly declared to others that gods rule had begun.
today, with so much evidence that gods kingdom is already established in heaven, why do the majority of people not accept what this means?
mrs phizzy ran into a jw lady from a neighbouring congo who has known us since we were teenagers, before we married, sometime in the pleistocene era lol.. during the conversation said lady asked if mrs phizzy was going to the r.c, to which mrs phizzy replied, "oh you haven't heard, we no longer go to meetings".. the jw lady then came back with the question in the thread title, which mrs phizzy handled well.. the point of this is though, what a god-awful, stupid, cult-minded question to ask !.
did she think we woke up one morning and thought "we don't love god anymore" ??
would that happen to anyone ?.
Those are great points Blondie!
They actually mirror the corruption I see occurring in the Org now. Instead of loathsome beasts and carvings, we have Pharrell Williams choreographed songs and corrupt elders...and if a pedophile welcome at meetings isnt a loathsome beast - what is?
disclaimer: the above is no offense to Pharrell and his song which are perfectly fine. Its the misapplication coming from people who drone on and on about a stick built structure being Jehovahs "house" in hushed reverent tones that is the actual abomination.

I would love to hear what Mz Phiz said in reply!
I havent been asked that yet but my mindset is that is that in talking to someone who believes in Jehovah (a JW) how can they possibly think that the God of the universe - omnipotent and all powerful who "does not dwell in buildings built by human hands" (Acts 17:24) only be accessed at the assembly?
Of course, as I stated above...no one has asked me yet and I dont know how I would phrase it in a way that was succinct and yet respectful enough that they might be jarred in to thinking about my response.
i was just wondering if, among the many videos available, anyone ever caught one of the gb members leaving hq on a trip.
i doubt anyone followed them but at least leaving the building.
what do they ride?.
so witnesses reject many practices or holidays due to their "unscriptural or pagan" origins.. for example, birthday celebrations, mothers or father's day, christmas etc..... most people in the world will say "but the origin doesn't matter anymore, we follow this custom now because it's a joyful occasion that creates happy times and brings the family together".
it is still firmly rejected.. so, if the wrong origin is so important, and should result in rejecting something, why isn't the same principle applied to the actual jehovah's witness faith itself!?.
after all, the very foundation of the organisation was based on wrong understandings of the bible, far fetched teachings and doctrines, links to false religious backgrounds, pyramidology, false predictions, inaccurate beliefs etc...... using their reasoning, it doesn't matter how good something is now, if the origin was faulty to begin with?
So as to the wedding ring/birthday comparison....
Im trying to think why that is...could it be that the wedding ring serves the JW purpose of "hands off - they are married" whereas the birthday idea serves no JW ideology?
Its more cherry picking if so. The goal then should be to find a way to make the birthday celebration "work" within the JW construct.
Then it would become a conscience matter and finallly accepted.
Birthdays for all!
i am not sure if this guy is really from bethel, or walkill, but if he is....this poor guy really tells it like it is from the heart.
he was surprised.. at the 'oh so fast, pack your bags, get your stuff outta here' layoff !.

I appreciate the answer life is too short!
I vaguely know who he is but I havent listened to him. I know he is held in high regard by people and after reading what you have said I can see why.
I wish I could say I cant believe how those elders wives stuck you with that single mom when you yourself were young and just making it but actually I CAN believe it. Sad.
Thanks for taking the time to type that out and for sharing some of your story with me. You sound like you value balance. I agree with you on that.
