For me praying and believing my prayers were getting answered died when i was about 8 years old when most kids stop believing in Santa Claus. I never had a prayer answered and just thought it was because I was a bad jw.

Do you miss feeling that "Jehovah" was listening to prayers?
by LyinEyes inthis is hard to explain, but i will try.
the other day, my neice was put in the hospital for test , after having two seizures, she is 20 and has never had any medical problems at all.
i now know, that by doing that it seemed to take the burden of helplessness off of my shoulders.

How Do I Tell My Mom

Doubtfully Yours,
First off I didn't start this thread to talk about religion and to get insulted like a jw insults other religions. I didn't say your religion was senseless so don't go bashing mine. It's obvious from your response that you probably read about wicca mostly from christian based sites so you didn't learn anything truthful any way. By the way i'm not a pot smoker and am actually an intelligent individual that thinks clearly and studies things through before making a decision about anything so my mind was not clouded when deciding to study wicca.

I had considered telling her about some of the pagan traditions that jws follow with weddings to ease the edge a little bit. Thanks for the list of things that you put Scully. She attended my first wedding to my then "worldly" girlfriend. She wasn't too keen on the idea then with having a female justice of the peace perform the wedding. I can just imagine how she'll feel with a Wiccan High Priestess performing the rites at this Handfasting. JWbot there are certain rites that will be performed that will definetly set the ceremony apart from a traditional wedding. If I could get away with not telling her about it I would, but I don't feel right having her show up knowing she will be offended and make a scene by leaving. I know that once she finds out that I'm a witch that she will disown me so I guess it's just a matter of when to tell her and if I should drag this out for my own sake or just get it done and over with.

I was born in and was a witness for about 22 years or so. I drifted away without any difficulty from the elders which kinda suprised me since I was supposed to be an example in the hall. My mom is planning on coming to the wedding I just haven't told her yet what kind of wedding it is. I have a feeling that most of my family won't be coming because of the kind of wedding with the exeption of my father who also left and possibly my sister who is currently sitting on the fence with the jws.

Recently I got engaged. The problem is we are going to have a pagan wedding according to our beliefs. My mother, a devout JW, already knows that we are getting married so I can't not invite her to the wedding. I don't want to not tell her what kind of wedding it is and have her storm out during the ceremony when realization dawns in as to what is going on so I'm going to have to tell her it's a pagan wedding. She's going to ask questions when she finds out and will eventually find out that I'm a practicing wiccan. When that happens she'll freak. I'm afraid that she'll disown me on the spot. How do I go about telling her without compromising my beliefs and changing the ceremony to a traditional one? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Psychic readings
by JustTickledPink inwho here has been to a psychic or palm reader?
do you think they have any supernatural powers or just make informed guesses based on statistics when they take a look at you.
example: i am 30, a white female, with a ring on my finger.. what are the issues that concern me?.

I do readings on the side for cash. I've seen too many things not to believe in it. I have never asked questions to find out about a person to "make" a reading happen. I always had the person sit there quietly and the only participation that was given was to cut the deck. I wouldn't allow any comments or questions until the end of the reading so it wouldn't affect anything and just used intuition. However I do believe that there are a lot of people out there that use leading questions and observation to try to make others believe in them and waste their cash.

How did you brutally destroy your WT publications?
by Nosferatu inthe only wt publication i brutally destroyed was a brand new copy of the revalation book.
i was so frustrated with the religion that i ripped the goddam thing into a hundred pieces.
it was a great way to take my anger out on it.. years later when i was dating this one girl, she had a copy of that same stupid book.

My parents were cool enough not to make a big issue out of public prayer, but those outings in public with lots of witnesses were embarassing as hell. I especially hated going to stadium games and having to sit down during the National Anthem and listen to everyone around us tell us how disrespectful we were. I never understood why we had to sit for a song, but had to stand silently for a flag. Didn't make sense.

What was your turning point?
by jeanniebeanz inwhat was it that was the real eye opener for you?.
for me, it was after watching the video, "jehovah's witnesses; a non-prophet organization," and the point on how the org puts itself in a place between jesus and mankind.
a position which does not exist scripturally.

For me it was when they changed their stance on serving in military hospitals and other non-lethal forms of work instead of going to jail during a time of war. They had all that innocent blood on their hands and I couldn't deal with that. Then I found JWD well it was H2O then and was encouraged to read Crisis of Conscience so I went right out and bought it and gave it to my dad. We both left right after.
