  i got this letter today from a friend of my dad who i have not seen in years.

  please respond to any or all of it as you see fit.

  it pretty much sums up witness mentality.

  WT is imperfect, huh? No sh*t. How the hell can you make false prophecies, be imperfect and still think you are God's divine channel?

  Or, be responsible for the deaths of many (immunizations, Rogaine shot, etc..) Look at how the WTS is with other religions! They claim birds will pick their dead bodies in the street because they don't know the "truth!" How the heck is it truth if it's all a load of crap! JW's bash Catholics for being wrong in the past, but at least the Pope apologized when they were wrong.

  This stuff burns me up. They can't see it right in front of thier faces. Whatever.

  i thought it would be interesting for people to just post a few things about themselves so we can get to know each other just a bit.. try posting 10 facts about your life.. joel.

  1. i was born and raised in south georgia.. 2. my favorite subject in school was math.. 3. i was in the fulltime service (bethel and pioneer) for 4 years.. 4. my favorite color is blue.. 5. mitch and i have been together over 12 years.. 6. we live in a suburb of atlanta georgia.. 7. we love to eat out and have friends over for dinner and board games.. 8. the only sport i was ever any good at is tennis.. 9. my favorite tv show of all time is the simpsons.. 10. we are both naturists and wish we could lay on the beach naked every day.

  P.S. - My favorite musical instrument is the violin, although I can't play it. Have any of you seen the movie Red Violin?

  P.S. - DCs Ghost - I also am intrigued by the supernatural. Did tarot card readings for a while, but after a while I realized I don't want to know my future (power of suggestion or otherwise,) I prefer to map my future myself.

  P.S. - You Know - Oh yeah, you sound like a real good Christian! Stealing cars huh?

  I always love your posts Joelbear - and this one was a really good idea.

  1. I have a beautiful 3 year old daughter who is a genius and is very pretty.
  2. I disliked history in school and now I love it.
  3. My favorite color is yellow.
  4. I have been with my husband for going on 3 years (feels like 33.)
  5. I like to get the heck outta the house - even if it's Wal-Mart.
  6. I collect Beanie Babies - I have several hundred.
  7. I have had many favorite TV shows, including Gilligan's Island, the A-Team, Night Rider, Rainbow Brite (my absolute fave as a kid,) South Park, Ren & Stimpy, SpongeBob SquarePants, Taxi Cab Confessions and last but not least Sienfeld.
  8. I have 2 beagles and 2 cats.
  9. My favorite flowers are Roses - all colors but mostly red and yellow ones.
  10.I love our Ford Mustang - has lots of extras (NOS, Cobra intake, flowmasters, lots more) and we go drag racing. (I love our Honda Civic, too, but it's not fast)

  Layed Off!

  no matter how you think you are ready for such an eventuality, it still remains stressful when it finally does happen.. until last friday, i worked as a systems engineer for a large canadian telecom equipment manufacturer that has been laying off thousands of employees.

  their target was 30,000 and they are almost there.

  i dont know, but maybe my number was 25,879...or something.. anyone out there works or used to work for this company?

  It's hte high-tech industry in general. I work with a Services Association for professionals in the high-tech industry and there are huge budget cut-backs accross the board with companies like Oracle and so on. 99% of the companies we deal with are having huge or at least noticable setbacks, but keep your chin up, many of the companies are now lifting freezes off of thier budgets.   What should we name the baby?

  i am due in the middle of october and my husband and i cannot come up with a name.

  i almost had him sold on venus, until he asked people at work what they thought and he got wierd looks.

  i wanted to name the last baby sidney, but let him name her because he has never gotten a chance to name a kid before.

  Are you serious about Venus? I hope not, what a sluty name. I like unusual names, but that's a bit much. Some of my fave girl names are:

  "Special" meeting in October?

  question.

  my mother told my husband that there is to be a 'special meeting' in october at the local sports arena (same place as dc's are held here) and that "only publishers are allowed to attend" that they will get "special cards" for admission from their local congregation and have to hand them in to get into the building.

  i have no idea if this has anything to do with the "annual meeting" they always have (isn't that generally in october?

  she went into her "you know it's the truth" routine.

  in a nutshell, i told her that i have found too many discrepancies in the wts.. i told her abbout the 607bce date.

  PS - Tell her to go to her Kingdom Hall and look in the 1968 bound volume under what do the 1970's mean to you (October I think.) It's pretty obvious -- I showed it to my dad and he admitted they did say that.

  Then show her the scripture on false prophets setting a date in the name of Jehovah and the date not happening (look in your index cause I don't have a bible at work.)

  Show her the scripture to test your faith in the teachings of man. (Why the hell would people leave the truth just so they can spread lies? That is so stupid.)

  Also show her that the great crowd was standing BEFORE THE THRONE (the throne is in heaven.)

  The bible says the earth will melt.

  Slayer - I will send you and e-mail ASAP with the following scanned documents from books etc... (may take a while to download):

  1 - prophesying that the World would end and churches would be destroyed.
  2 - ditto above.
  3 - saying they never said a date and that it was false prophesying (liars)
  4 - 1969 document saying you young people will never grow old (says it point blank)
  5 - secret Beth Sarim house deed (built to house prophets when they returned and later was sold secretly)
  6 - saying world would end in 1914 and churches would be completly destroyed
  7 - 1968 watchtower showing chart with 1975
  8 - using eye of Ra (Ra was an Egyptian God) on cover of publication
  9 - Russell used the pyramid of Giza to arrive at the date of 1914

  Points to bring up:

  1975 - The 1968 Awake October Issue pinpointed 1975.
  Point to scriptures about false prophets.
  Show her the last chapter of Revelation where Jesus says he is the Alpha and the Omega and that he sent his angel to the earth.

  And hey - don't worry, we are all here for you. I am going through the same thing. Be strong, OK? I know it's really tough, but you gotta do what u gotta do.

  I was a very outspoken kid (now I'm an outspoken adult) and I used to answer my own answers, my mother would cringe every time I would raise my hand, but she never suppressed my desire to learn and participate. When I was about 6 or 7 we were going over a lesson about modesty and I made a comment that "the sisters should be careful not to wear clothes that showed their breasts." The whole hall died of laughing, but I didn't think it was funny, I always got so sick and tired of the women bending over to say hi to me (mind you I am short so I was really short as a little kid) and me getting a peep show.

  Later one of the brothers told my dad he was glad I answered that because none of the elders could have said anything like that! To this day I have people say they remembered that comment about boobs I made as a kid...

  So How Do I Deal With This?

  i have a really difficult problem on my hands and i would very much appreciate some input.. some years ago, my wife and i offered accomodation to a female relative - lets call her auntie molly - who was experiencing some marriage problems.

  it was a disaster.

  she was irrascible, moody and incredibly badly behaved.

  Englishman,

  I agree with Think41self that she has a problem with addiction - both drugs and alcohol. I do feel, however, that addicts are addicts because they cannot control themselves and thier actions. They are dependant and mind altering chemicals to comfort themselves and it ususally stems from mental disorders or a history of abuse.

  Now, I don't feel this is an excuse, but, I do feel she needs mental help. I feel she knows what she is doning, but cannot control herself. Compulsive liars over time tend to confince themselves of their lies, so maybe she is at the point where she has actually convinced herself that you tried to molest her. If she is the wack job she appears to be, stay thehell way from her unless you are reccomending a reall good shrink or rehab center.

  Crys for attention are usually cries for help. Sometimes these individuals don't know they need help. I am not really sure if she has cancer, sounds sort of shady, but don't accuse her of lying gain, just stay the hell away. TROUBLE! I am the type who would want to help, but sometimes you have to stay out of the fire so you don't get burned. Good luck.
