  To my knowledge, no body on the GB is anything but a white male. (I won't get into the male only thing right now, being that it is a major issue with me.)

  I have also never met a black elder, although I know of one black ministerial servant. I am not saying they don't exist, but...

  I have never heard so much about my needing to be in subjection to my husband before, either. I am sure most churches do not look down upon women who leave their husbands and remarry in cases of abuse or sexual contact other than penetration (mouth contact doesn't count.) Of course, if I am to be in subjection to my husband he wants a blow-job, I don't then because it breaks the rules.

  Also, do Baptists, Catholics and so on dedicate entire magazines (more than just a few) to JW's and how God is going to destroy them and their members, leaving their dead bodies in the street?

  As a JW, I always got an evil happy warm fuzzy feeling when I realized those I didn't like would have their dead bodies picked by birds. So, yes, JW's are very prejudiced to the point of being very extreme.

  risk taking

  well, i'm getting closer and closer to turning my life upside down and breaking away from my 43 years of conservative living.

  any risk experiences out there?.

  the risk i want to take is leaving banking, living a much more bohemiam life, maybe work as a waiter or bartender or something, go to school, travel, work on my furniture art, write, read, live.. aaaack.

  I think there is a fine line between the sense of having fun and being practical. Having a steady job provides a sense of security/stability and escaping your daily routine and having fun provides a sense of freedom and enjoyment. The true route to take is being reasonable -- not too hasty yet not too cautious.

  I do agree most Christian based beliefs are very anti-anything-they-don't-understand. But, Jehovah's Witnesses have to take it a step farther and a bit more extreme than anyone else, unless of course we are referring to the back-woods hillbilly that was raised by the KKK.

  This may be true, but would you hug a homosexual or have dinner with one without preaching to him? You see, I know from experience. If a homosexual did not want a study, how would you react to him then? I know how you would react, you would shun him.

  My father as an elder shunned my brother, who was not baptized. He told me he would have disowned his son if it wasn't for mom. He also told me he would disown my other brother because he has problems with drug addiction (he is unbaptized as well.) I was also told by my father the elder that if I ever married someone who was not white he would never speak to me again because "Jehovah made different colored people like he made different colored flowers..."

  If you were talking with someone and they shared the fact that they were gay, what would you do? How would you feel? Would you be disgusted? My brother died alone, too embarrassed to face my parents. He lived a lie as well, hiding his sexuality as best he could so that he could still talk to us.

  So, how do you think about JW's and being prejudice now?

  Homosexuals
  Other religions
  Alcoholics and others with addictive disorders
  Human rights activists (namely women's rights)
  Anybody else who does not agree with them

  Perhaps they are afraid of what they do not understand, just as many people are afraid of JW's.

  1. i was born and raised in south georgia.. 2. my favorite subject in school was math.. 3. i was in the fulltime service (bethel and pioneer) for 4 years.. 4. my favorite color is blue.. 5. mitch and i have been together over 12 years.. 6. we live in a suburb of atlanta georgia.. 7. we love to eat out and have friends over for dinner and board games.. 8. the only sport i was ever any good at is tennis.. 9. my favorite tv show of all time is the simpsons.. 10. we are both naturists and wish we could lay on the beach naked every day.

  Joelbear - (((joelbear))) Sorry honey, I had a teacher that was mean to JW kids, too. Funny how prejudice works sometimes. Nobody should be treated babdly for thier beliefs, even more so a child. I suppose that we are all guilty of prejudice from time to time. Have any of you ever seen the movie Time to Kill? (I think that's the title.) anyhow, I never thought I was prejudice until his closing comments "now imagine she's white."

  Prejudice stems from fear. Perhaps your teacher was afraid of you - not as a threat, but often people are afraid of what they do not understand.

  but, note the counsel paul gave to titus.. titus 2:1 says "you, however, keep on speaking what things are fitting for healthful teaching.".

  Oh, and by the way - if you did respect Joelbear's stance you wouldn have minded your own business instead of giving him what you saw fit as counsel.

  bboy is correct - being a homosexual is not unhealthy. It is the way he chooses to live his life and is really none of your business. Did you know he has a wonderful relationship and has had one for many years? He is more devoted to his partner than most straight married couples. Wether you agree with his life style or not is not business of yours.

  Don't you just hate it when people take it upon themselves to judge others? I don't see the morality police anywhere, do you?

  You started this! You are the one providing counsel, although I don't really want your counsel. If the Governing Body and Watchtower Society makes it a rule, a disfellowshipping rule at that, not to speak to people like us, then it is YOU who needs counsel by the local elders! What, you think you are above the law? Do you think you are above GOD?

  Don't you know false prophets and those that set false dates are NOT DIRECTED BY GOD!

  I am smiling, I think this is funny. What is the look on your face? I bet you are mad, aren't you? Shows how much love is in your heart. I will pray for you, OK?

  2 the overseer should therefore be irreprehensible, a husband of one wife, moderate in habits, sound in mind, orderly, hospitable, qualified to teach, 3 not a drunken brawler, not a smiter, but reasonable, not belligerent, not a lover of money, 4 a man presiding over his own household in a fine manner, having children in subjection with all seriousness; 5 (if indeed any man does not know how to preside over his own household, how will he take care of gods congregation?

  I will repeat myself here - "if you believe in the elder arrangement and the bible, then why are you talking and conversing with the people on this forum? They do consider themselves apostates. If you are an elder, horray for you, because what is good for the goose should be good for the gander.

  Or, am I just assuming you are an elder? Either way - you should not be here, talking with apostates is a disfellowshipping offense according to the WT - and no man is above the "law," Ray Franz of the Governing Body is a fine example. He was disfellowshipped for eating with his boss who was dis-fellowshipped."

  Also, the bible says do not judge your fellow man, but the elders judge their fellow man in judicial meetings, so how is that different? How do they know the heart condition of their fellow man? Maybe they feel they are divine entities? Maybe they feel they are like the angels (aka glorious ones or celestial beings?) Don't rattle off scriptures to me, I was raised in it. Do you realize you are making yourself a hypocrite?

  Well, thank you for assuming I was one of those individuals, of course, you don't even know me, so who are you to assume? I do beleive in God and I do beleive the Bible was "inspired" by him.
