Not exactly true, Jan. Witnesses count all publishers, baptized or not. Inactive ones are still counted, as long as they aren't df'd. If they are in the inactive file for two years, I believe, they are taken off the list. Baptism is not the criteria. It's whether you are out there knocking on doors. And for the record, the Mormons do NOT count those who have left, and those who are baptized by proxy, like your ancestors. I worked with Mormons for a long time, so I know many of their little "ins and outs".

Question about member numbers
by betweenworlds ini was wondering if anyone knew how the jehovah's witnesses stand as far as there numbers go in regards to other *newer* religions such as the mormons, the moonies, the adventists, scientologists, etc?.
i was wondering because this is a point that jw's will use when pointing that they are gods people.
(the fact that their numbers have climbed so quickly in a relatively short period of time, so they must have god's direction, blessing) of course i think this is hooey!

Correction: Mormons are 22 million. JW's 6 million. I remember when the two groups were about the same in their membership. 25 years ago, I think.

Where is Ray Franz now?
by reagan_oconnor ini bought c of c last year and spent a long time reading it (3 whole months).
thanks to this well-written and researched book, i was finally able to get past the "armageddon syndrome" that so many ex-jws experience (i.e., "i'm gonna die at armageddon for reading this apostate literature").
i noticed that r.f.

I can testify to all of the above posts. We have friends who are in communication with the Franz's regularly. He is in no church, and you can go to the bank on that, but he is still working his commentary press business. www.commentarypress.com And his email is [email protected] I wouldn't flood him with emails, people. He is elderly, frail and has had many health problems.

The Amazing Disappearing Father!
by benge inhi hope you can help.. what is disassociation?
is it why despite a recent reestablishment of communications with my dad has dissolved into stilted telephone conversations and a request for me not to contact him?.
he and his family have been jw's for ten years, and although it hasn't been the closest of relationships in that time it has not reached this level before.. i have never been in the jw's and had never thought that they would promote the cutting off of family.

They shouldn't be cutting you off if you have never been a JW. They might discourage frequent association, but to cut you off totally is not their policy. It sounds like your family has gotten some bad advice. You might write to New York, to the headquarters, and explain this. They possibly will talk to the congregation involved, in your behalf. No guarantees though.

More on Prince
by Mulan ini talked to my jw friend today.
she and her husband were studied with by larry graham, in california, about 10 years ago, or more.
i asked if she knew anything about prince being a jw, and she said that their son went to visit the grahams in minnesota a year ago, and met prince at their home, and that he had been studying then, for about a year.

curious
by bonnie38 ini wonder what the percentage is of ex-jws who become involved in other organized religions.
i had a discussion with a psychiatrist friend recently.
he told me that i am a "psychiatric anamoly," that most "devout" people who leave a religion will join another and become as devout in their new religion.

I don't think there is any tried and true rule on this issue. I have seen some who almost immediately get involved in another type of organization and those who are appalled by the idea. My youngest son is now part of a church and very involved in it, and engaged to the Pastor's daughter (they met in college). He is a type of young man who needed something to belong to, and had a strong religious need. Spiritual? Maybe, not sure. So far, it is a good thing for him. For my husband and myself, and our other 3 children, NO WAY!!! I get a real sick feeling every time I even think about such a thing. Our son's future in laws used to bug us about coming to church all the time, and I get real SICK of hearing "the Lord says" or "God told me" all the time. Those expressions, while sincerely believed by the speaker, are just too foreign to me. It puts me further away from them, and does not draw me in. Anyway, we are of the ones who don't go join a church.
