  Newbie saying hello and glad to be here

  hello, i've been lurking the board for quite sometime now and i have also read crisis of conscience.

  my hubby and i stopped attending the meetings since december and had our first christmas in 6 years.

  it was fun although the feelings of guilt are still within us.. we've been visited by the elders twice but we managed to keep them at bay.

  Hi Jan, For the most part, I really enjoy your posts, but if anyone posts something as long as that one, I quit reading. It's not that I have a short attention span, because I don't. It's just that I don't have time to read the long ones like that. I get on here, and cruise around reading posts by my favorites, and hopefully they will be short and to the point. A few paragraphs is fine, but that one was toooooo long.

  Hair-raising Tale!

  let's have some fun.did you find out some juicy gossip about a witness that you are just dying to blab?.

  here's one from me.. i went to a hairdressing salon for the first time and the stylist was a camp male who never stopped chatting from the second he got his gesticulating paws on my scruffy mop.. my mum who is a devout jw was sitting reading a mag waiting for me.. next thing he's telling us about his gay male friend who is a bit down because he is having an affair with a jw.

  to make things worse he is married with kids (the brother not the gay friend).. stifling my shock and trying not to look at my mum who is staring wildly and unseeingly at her mag i asked his name or address and although he didn't know the name he told us his street and district!.

  This is a current one: I know a woman, late 50's, widow, who is having her second sexual affair with a non Witness. She tells her daughter, a loyal dub, that she wants to marry again, but definitely not a dub this time. She feels her sex life is no one's business, and has "okayed it with Jehovah". So much for the elders!! She goes to meetings and out in service. The daughter, unable to handle the hypocrisy, has changed congregations, but will never turn in her mum.

  we feel this will help in giving a greater voice to those who have been silent so long.

  What about the scriptural obligation to preach?

  i've always been taught that each disciple of christ has a scriptural obligation to preach, and to do so in imitation of jesus and his disciples.

  they did this by house to house, in synagogues, and in the marketplaces.

  this is one thing that has always kept me close to jehovah's witnesses.

  Just a couple of thoughts. The comment on preaching in Matt. 24:14 is a prophecy, and not a command. At Matt. 28:19,20, Jesus was instructing only his closest disciples (apostles) and associates, and not all of those who followed him. Finally, the preaching activity pertained to the time before the destruction of Jerusalem, as a warning to those people of impending destruction. That happened already. All done!!

  The Natural Law fallacy and Homosexuality

  there is a fallacy of logic that is so common that few people realize that it is, indeed, a fallacy of logic: the fallacy by appeal to nature.. one argument against homosexuality goes something like this:.

  the natural use of the reproductive organs is obviously to make children.

  using these organs in a way that cannot produce children is unnatural and thus ethically wrong.. .

  This is obviously an emotional issue for many here, but for what it's worth, I thought I'd throw in my two cents worth.

  I have a niece who is gay, and have learned that some of my friends are gay men. Not in the closet, but it just never came up. I also work with a gay man, that I suspected was gay, but again it just never came up. I grew up as a JW, and had all the prejudices against homosexuality that everyone else did. Before we left the Borg, I had come to the conclusion, that there are just too many gay people, in too many civilizations, to explain it as being a learned behavior, so I tend to think it is inborn for most of them. As in any lifestyle, though, there will be those who pervert it. Casual anonymous sex in a park bathroom between any combination of sexes, can't be considered normal by anyone I hope. And when that behavior extends to little boys, I also have to draw the line. But there are some who would make that a normal thing too. So just be careful in how much you justify something.

  I can deal with gay people just fine, the same as I do my other friends. I don't think about what my married couple friends do to each other in the bedroom, so why would I do that with my gay friends?
  Seems like a simple solution. To me, people are people. Viva la difference, as they say!!!
