Hi Englishman, My ancestors were from Macclesfield. That's near you isn't it? The more I dig into my ancestry, the more I find deeper English roots, and it is all over England. My father's name is Maxfield (Macclesfield), and Mom's mother's name was Strong (or Stronge)from Taunton, Somersetshire, England. Both are old families who came to this country from England in the 1600's. Dad's were Quakers, fleeing persecution, but Mom's were just adventuresome. Dad's mothers family were Smiths, from Norwich, Norfolk, England. Mom's father was Irish, but I can't find them in Ireland.......yet.

My brother, who is ever so irreverant, calls it the Watchtower Tract and Babble society. And he just loves to say "Jehovah Witnesses". It just makes our mother go ballistic.
He calls the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, "The Moron Veneral Choir". I told you he was irreverant. He has some that are worse too..........

boob jobs and sisters
by jurs inwarning: this is a very shallow post.
now that i'm out, i'm trying to see the humor of my past life as a jw.
when i was new in the truth , only baptized 4 months, i became good friends with this one sister.

It's funny, but it seems that women who have breasts don't care about them, and don't see why anyone would. But, the women I know who are "boyish" in breasts, are obsessed with it. They talk about it as much as I do, about being overweight. Women never seem to be satisfied with their bodies. That is the sad thing.

Okay, I have to ask. Do you live in Washington State? I knew of one congregation, East of Seattle, where several sisters had had implants. They would have parties, and the gals would wear dresses where they could show off their new cleavage. I saw several of the photos too, and just couldn't understand why that was okay. It is amazing what they can rationalize on, isn't it?

Question for any elder/recent ex-elder
by OrangeBlossom inthe elders keep dropping by every couple of saturday's after bookstudy to check on us and try to encourage us back to meetings.
it has worked out that my husband has been gone when they visit so they keep coming back hoping to catch him sometime.
anyway, i told my hubby that we should at least go to the meetings once a week to keep them off our trail, which i went this past thursday night and wouldn't you know it the one elder approached me and mentioned that they still want to sit down with us and go over an article on meeting attendance.

I discussed this with my husband (ex-elder) and he said if you go to one meeting a week, that is TOO much. Go once a month, and that will probably keep them off your back. The best thing though, is no information. Answer questions with questions. "Why do you ask?" "Did someone tell you to ask me that?" Or a 'conversation stopper' statement. "I can't imagine why you want to know something so personal." (thanks Ann Landers)
One time, we had a shepherding call, and I asked a question they didn't like the answer to, and they changed the subject to small talk, and left shortly after that.

Can "The Truth" Lie?
by ros inperhaps it is a matter of how one defines the words "truth" and "lie".
the watchtower society certainly permits their flock to hold some unique definitions of common words the rest of us take for granted.
for example, consider what we know to be jehovah's witnesses' general understanding of a few terms which might be defined thus:.

Has anyone felt like leaving God altogether?

.
after you decided that the wbts, and thus jw's were not god's chosen earthly organization did you feel like you wanted to leave and forget god altogether?.

Hi Comf,
You said that my brother still didn't get it, and I have to agree with you. He is full of anger. He has been out since 1978, and I have only been disenchanted for 6 years. A lot of years in between for his anger to fester, since no one in the family would have anything to do with him, until I called him in 1995. Now all is well with us. His wife died a few hours after giving birth to a stillborn baby in 1977, and he truly went into shock, in many ways, especially mentally, and has never really recovered. The tragedy is that she could have been saved by a blood transfusion. I think his anger and rage at the WTS is understandable, and it also led to his militant atheism. I cut him a lot of slack. He has two grown daughters, and the rest of the family supportive of him, and has had a few loving relationships during the years, so he hasn't had a terrible life. But he still mourns his dead wife, and son. -

Meet them at the door, with your purse in your hand, and say you were just going out the door. "Sorry. Not a good time." Think of excuses to not be available. "I'm on the phone, you will have to excuse me." They are just men, and not to be feared. Don't answer the door. If they know you are there, they may be persistent, but just don't answer it.
