Armageddon "Victims" in Waiting?

here's a pic of my family outside our house in weston super mare, england.. .

according to jehovah's witnesses, we are all going to be destroyed at armageddon for various unspecified misdemeanors.

excuse me for asking this, but isn't this just a little excessive?.

Just a sidebar to some of the other comments: My brother who has been disfellowshipped since 1978 calls Jehovah "Hitler in the sky." He has become an atheist/agnostic. I never can tell for sure. But, I do know that he means the Jehovah of the WTS, not the God I believe in........I think.

Some of your comments, people, were 'out there'. I wondered what you were thinking was said on this thread. Sometimes I think people deliberatley misunderstand.

i enjoyed englishman's post about americans vs europeans.

i chose to start a new thread because i want to take the topic in another direction.. the usa is still a young nation and an enigma.

the nation was created by european settlers who wanted to get away from things they did not like about europe, especially religious intolerance and inflexible governments, and have the opportunity to build a new future.

Hi Amazing.
Your post is really good, and needed I think. For the most part, I think we Americans deserve what we get overseas. Most of us are self righteous, (maybe that's why the JW thing is overwhelming in this country), about being American, and that it gives us some special 'status'. Only when you go there, do you realize how young a country America really is. The oldest things here are only 300+ years old, while in Europe (or anywhere else for that matter.....except Australia) the buildings are centuries or even over 1000 years old. Quite amazing when you see a castle built in the year 800, or a house 700 years old, still being lived in. It was humbling to us anyway.

My ancestors came to Maine (in Northeast United States) in the early 1700's from England. They were Quakers who were being horribly persecuted there, so left for their own safety and preservation of their religion. (the family remained Quakers until the early 20th century too) But, the Puritans were here too, who persecuted the Quakers. Then the Puritans evolved into Congregationalists, who were just AWFUL to anyone who didn't believe as they did. On my grandmother's side of the family tree, my ancestors were a long line of Congregationalist ministers, named Smith. Quite well known in New England, as I do my research. Anyway, the religion nonsense seems to be inborn in me.

I witnessed to the Christians last night--LOL!

thought you all would enjoy this.. i went to a b'day party for a friend who is a bible-thumper in the worst way!

(10x worse than most jw).. i'm sitting around like a zombie while everyone is talking about how "blessed" they are to "know christ" blah blah blah blah blah.. then my interest got peaked as one of the women started quoting scripture talking about how the reason her life is blessed is that her great great grandmother was a russian mennonite blah blah blah and the bible says that god will bless your offspring if you come to know him.

blah blah blah.. so i start asking a few well placed questions like "well what does that mean for the poor muslim sop whose great great grandmother was a muslim?

I actually think he is gone. He hasn't posted on this thread again, anyway. His last comment seemed to be a finale. I was like you too, towards the end especially. I was easily 'discouraged' by a householder, and left their porch quite agreeably!!

the way to a speedy downfall of the watchtower kult is to educate the general public so well that they begin to have "bible studies" with everyone who comes to their door.

then slowly present the true history of the borg to the study conductors as "questions i'd like answered next time".

if a whole territory was like this, the "sheep" would soon be leaving!

Hi Larc, You write great!! He is just a typical self righteous religious type. Like most of us used to be. We wouldn't have been so easily discouraged either. It's hard to remember that part of my past, but it was still there. And......it is still really irritating.

Another Elder is toast

jst2laws is toast!.

after 29 years i am officially no longer serving as an elder.

those who knew i was still serving would only be surprised that i took so long.

Good for you, 2laws!! My husbandwas an elder for 25 years and resigned five years ago. When they announced it, they only said he was no longer serving as an elder. There was an audible 'gasp'. Afterwards, many people asked what happened.......amazingly, they had the nerve. He only smiled, and said he was burned out a bit. For over a year more, people still treated him like he WAS an elder, but then the rumors started, and now we are totally shunned. Funny how they will defend you until they hear a rumor, no matter how ridiculous it is. We stopped going totally at the end of 1997, but in our hearts, we were gone in '95. It took us that long to fade out. Still not df'd either. But it is only a matter of time. He was quoted in the Silent Lambs newspaper articles that are now in the hands of all the Circuit and District overseers, so we think it will happen eventually. We don't care, but only get a kick out of avoiding it for so long, when we so obviously should be.

American / European Incomprehension.

reading through some of the posts re the mcveigh debate, it's obvious that there is a huge divide between the usa and europe over many issues, in particular with reference to the way that society should deal with deviants.. i think that there is a lot of other cultural differences between our societies, and i'm just wondering if this is why the wtbts has had a far higher "conversion factor" in the usa than in europe.. some of the phraseology contained in the watchtower magazines is incomprehensible to europeans.

i remember that words that are in common usage now, were, when first used in the wt, totally baffling.. the expression "no way" wasn't in common use until years after the wt featured it, like wise with "points up", also "right on" meant nothing to anyone.

indeed, many return visits to placed magazine householders resulted in them asking a bewildered dub for an explanation of these then strange terms.

god_knows........why do you post here? Were you ever a JW?

You are just so presumptious in your assessment of what the Bible says, and your interpretations of it. Where exactly, does it say that there is an exception for small babies and children? Again, I ask: Why is your opinion more valid than mine?

I still think God wants people who behave as Christians, more than people who have accepted Christ. But......I am NOT saying that those who accept Christ are less than those who do accept him, anymore than I believe that they are better. Who am I to make that kind of a statement? I like a comment that my brother makes quite often: "The world needs less Christians and more Christs."

And my husband has a sign in his office that says: "Jesus, deliver me from your followers." It is self explanatory to me, but if anyone needs it explained, I will be happy to do so.
