i was talking to my brother last night on the phone who walked away from the borg in the mid 1980's.
i asked him if he ever checked out any ex-witness sites.
his reply was basically, no, since he's moved on past his time served in the borg.
For myself, including my family, ......my dub relatives will have to die, and we will have to move far away so we will never see anyone we used to be friends with, for us to move on. It's hard to move on when there are constant reminders in the community, and seeing dub family who keep preaching at us.
Other than those things, we have moved on.
hello all.....after months of lurking....both here and on h2o...i have decided to take the plunge and become active here.

Well, I guess I don't have to call my daughter now, and ask if she is
ticatoo. She has been lurking and threatening to post too, and is a third generation dub who walked away.

this is the only way i can get the word out that justin and i. each have a parent in university hospital intensive care units.
at the moment.
one in my home state, one in his.. my father had a brain aneurism 12 days ago and after brain surgery, and many long nights seems to be stable.
Hugs to you Essie. I have had two close relatives in the hospital too. The stress is unbelievable. I thought at first it was your Mom, and knew that would blow you away. I don't look forward to that time with mine either. Since we both have 'special' Mom's, I would feel for you.
Anyway, we are all here for you. I find it amazing how much stress we can actually handle, and stay sane.
as a sit writing this i will say that i am possibly going through one of the toughest times of my life right now.
i have recently told the elders of my congregation that i have identified myself as "queer" and it has been one of the toughest roads i have ever had to walk.
i am not trying to offend anyone on the boards by telling you this but i feel that it's important to live honestly and my decission to "come out" to people in the congregation is one based on trying to live honestly.

Yep!!! Kent, you are right. I am constantly wondering about my belief system. I am sometimes easily swayed to another viewpoint, and othertimes, stubbornly stick to old ones, or new "old" ones.
About Bush: this was the first election I have EVER voted in all my 55 years. Amazing, eh? I never believed that man would be elected, and I still wonder at his qualifications, other than dear old Dad. I think Cheney is cool though, and probably a good president. But, I also realize they are just figureheads, so in the end, what difference does it make. Just exercising my new freedoms.

(10x worse than most jw).. i'm sitting around like a zombie while everyone is talking about how "blessed" they are to "know christ" blah blah blah blah blah.. then my interest got peaked as one of the women started quoting scripture talking about how the reason her life is blessed is that her great great grandmother was a russian mennonite blah blah blah and the bible says that god will bless your offspring if you come to know him.
blah blah blah.. so i start asking a few well placed questions like "well what does that mean for the poor muslim sop whose great great grandmother was a muslim?
I emailed to God_knows not to stop posting. We actually need people like them here. I just advised him to stop preaching and just keep a dialog going. No one likes a preacher. (no one here, that is)

Can you imagine me, the sweet little obedient, submissive, elder's wife? I can barely imagine it now, myself. Anymore than I can imagine you as the submissive, obedient, meek little pioneer sister. But, I am sure your personality came through loud and clear. I just cannot picture you at the door, with your bookbag being seriously presenting literature, without a LOUD "WAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" I'm sure everyone on this board, who has gotten to know you here, will agree with me. But I know you did it, and were very successful too.
You are no doubt finding your non-cult personality now, and loving it. I am so happy for you, that you got out when you were so young. I had to find out the truth of things at age 50!! Booooo. I would give anything to have learned it at your age. So many differences in my life and my children's lives. Oh well. I didn't.
Oh, and about the Fake comments you made: It WAS all fake. Every last bit of it. I agree with you about hoping your family learns it soon. I think they will. And yes, the love is conditional, from all the dyed in the wool JW's. But, I have found, that not all of them are like that, and those ones are more free thinking. It's just that many of the ones we were all close to, were just like us, and very irritatingly strict!!

Okay, okay. Let me try to explain. My buddy, Venice, emailed that she was surprised to see a post on prayer, submitted by me. Reason: I seldom pray, and my friends know I have had a struggle with my spiritual side since leaving the Borg. I think I believe in God now, and I think the Bible has really good principles for us to live by, and that is about as far as I have come. I would love to have the faith that others have, but I haven't gotten it back........YET!!
Anyway, when I got the information emailed to me, that I posted here to begin this thread, I thought right away, that it was a good topic to post here. I didn't write it. I just thought it was neat, and showed the 'priorities' of Americans, and how scewed they are. (I didn't misspell screwed........it's 'scewed' that I may have misspelled )

I usually go to sites like that one, to look at virus hoaxes, that come to me almost everyday. And JanH, your point is interesting about this country being founded on freedom FROM religion, but that isn't quite correct, although I do know what you mean. The founders wanted people to be able to worship as they pleased, since they were NOT allowed that freedom in England, from where they had come, and there were some religious groups here, like the Puritans, and Congregationalists, who were trying to restrict people's actions again, in this new country.
I still think the writer made some good points about the things the Supreme Court allows, and the things they don't allow.
P.S. I didn't vote for Bush either. I still can't believe he is the President. I get embarrassed for him everytime he opens his mouth. So glad I don't have to be neutral anymore.
