When they first started the written review, you turned them in and the school servant corrected them, scored them and handed them back the next week. I was about 12 or 13 I think. Must have been about 1958.

US Presidential - race of minnows in pursuit of power
by core infirst - yes - i am in uk and have no vote and possibly no right to overly criticise.
be that as it may i must comment that the candidates available for the us voters do not stand out as world leaders, neither are kennedys, eisenhowers, or even nixons.
is this choice the best that the us has to offer itself ?

Kennedy was elected because he was a Catholic, had good hair and a pretty wife. He had NO morals at all. He was very young, had money too...not necessarily a race that you need experience in.
Well, you were very young at the time, I see. I was 15 when he was elected and I remember it all very well. Even though we were JW's, my father followed politics closely, and we talked about that race all the time. Kennedy wasn't elected because he was a Catholic.............it was in spite of being one. It was a huge discussion point back then and actually a handicap for him.
All in all, he was a very good President. We didn't know about his morals, obviously, until long after his death. The media weren't allowed to release all the information they knew in those days.

The dreaded assembly experiences ....
by eyeslice insitting through the items with experiences at the one day special assembly day last weekend reminded me just how dreadful having to handle experiences at the assemblies were.
when i was an elder, i used to dread getting assembly assignments that included experiences; they were always so fake.. .
nothing ever happened in our circuit that was ever noteworthy or outstanding, and you usually ended up re-hashing the same old stuff from years ago.. .

Husband and wife both work full time, 5 kids, all home schooled, regular pioneers. We had that one once. A couple of years later, the husband was killed in an accident, the wife went a little nuts, married an unbeliever, divorced, disfellowshipped, and the kids all had serious emotional problems. A real heartbreaker. But I don't think any of them are JW's anymore.
We had a pioneer from our congregation, who gave an experience about a man she called on who was from Pitcairn Island, a descendent of Fletcher Christian, from the Mutiny on the Bounty story. I shrunk down in my seat for that one. I went with her on that call, and the man, while very nice, polite, and took the magazines, was not interested in JW's at all. I perceived that immediately, but she was relentless. He finally told her to stop coming. I just couldn't believe she had the nerve to give it as a good experience. He was an interesting man, with an interesting background..........period.

Your Dreams
by LouBelle inwe all have dreams - some of us see those dreams to fruition.. my constant dream/desire is to have a little bit of land in the country somewhere, with a cow (bell around her neck and all), some chickens running around, a veggie patch, a herb patch.
a safe home.
friends popping in.. a very simple dream..

I always dreamed of a big Victorian house, with turrets, bay windows, and a big wrap-around porch, high on a hill overlooking the ocean.
If I could have that now, it sounds like too much work.

The End is Nigh!
by AK - Jeff inthis list is amazing.
jehovah's witnesses get honorable mention here.
it is unbelievable the number and diversity of groups claiming that the end is about to arrive over the centuries, but certainly the lions share use the bible's final revelation as basis for such predications:.

I just finished a biography of Mary Lincoln, and it mentioned the Millerites and their prediction on the end of the world in 1843. It was hilarious reading about it, and how so many people bought into it, only to come off the hill, in shame, when nothing happened. Miller's sermons were in all the newspapers, and read avidly. Mary and Abe didn't believe it, by the way.
Nothing new I guess.

close-minded religious people should save their money and not go see this movie but instead give your money to the next tv evangelist or street magician you see.

Add Michelle Rodriguez to the list. She was on "Lost" for a few seasons, but was killed off after serving time for a DUI in Honolulu.
She was on The View yesterday and said she was raised a JW, but "you know, you have to leave the womb sometime, and I wanted to make my own way and my own decisions".......direct quote, as near as I can remember. She and Sherry Shepherd high fived each other.

I went in 1991. Instructors were both CO's.........Bill Spangenburg and Peter Michas. We had a blast. It is a very fun memory for me. In many ways it was disappointing, because there was nothing new, but we had a fun group and liberal CO's, who liked to have fun. Peter is an opera singer and at lunchtime, he would play the piano and sing for us and take requests. He is a very talented man.
We knew Bill Baxter here too. If it's the same Bill, he had an "anchorman's voice"..........nice man. My stepfather married he and his wife 100 years ago..........okay, not that many, but a long time ago.

I did while giving birth to our second child. I was given a drug, inhaled type, and went on a nice little "trip". I floated above myself and watched the birth. I was totally out, consciously, but I saw the whole thing. Very weird.

TSA now allowed to take laptops from you
by Devilsnok innot content with taking your shoes and confiscating your water, now the department of homeland security is gunning for your laptops.
as the washington post reported yesterday, border patrol and customs agents can now detain laptops for a reasonable period of time to review and analyze information.
they dont need probable cause under the new policy.

We just got home tonight from two weeks in Hawaii. When we were going through security in Honolulu, before boarding our flight home, they took Dave's water bottle.!! Oh the shame.
Last year, we could take water through security, but this year they caught up to the rest of the nation............no water!
Laptop confiscation seems so wrong to me. I do understand taking a water bottle, because it might contain something other than water, but your laptop is a pretty expensive thing to take from you.
