now i shall post the follow-up.. as i predicted, my mom would come with elders in tow to have a conversation.. actually, she threw me for a loop at first.

no elders with her.. she had them wait a half an hour then she let them in.. thus i couldn't reject the whole lot of them at the door, she was their way in.. secondly, she brought the elders from the nearby hall, not the ones who know me.. the whole time i thought she would go for someone who she knows can dominate my thinking, but instead she went with the unknown.. .

The above link is to a newspaper article about Barbara and Joe Anderson. The Andersons filed suit because they were wrongly DF'd; i.e., they were DF'd for telling the truth. Coffee County Courthouse will have the records which are fully accessible to the public. The whole file can be copied and sent to you if you pay for the costs.

Why would WT officials not talk to NBC to refute the charges brought by the Andersons and the victims? If you were accused wrongly of something, wouldn't you welcome a chance to speak publicly?

Remember, facts are what matter.

How would you respond to the elders?

id like to help metaspy and others out on helping them overcome the manipulative language of the society.

when it happens, we have no time to come back with a snappy answer.

but maybe we can help in the future how the manipulative language is wrong, and how to clear the destructive fog (fear obligation guilt) in our heads.. do you think my retorts would help?

As a JW advised me once, put them on the defensive. Ask questions. Question authority, especially arbitrary authority. If possible, go to a local minister or priest and ask them the same questions; then compare responses.

If you answer the 'phone, log every call, writing down the date and time of call and what was said by each party.

Ask them if you, as an adult, have a right to live according to your own conscience.

Would it please Jehovah if I don't follow my own conscience, but yield to pressure from mere humans, even if they are people I love dearly?

Would you prefer that I live a lie (every day, everything I did would be inauthentic, posturing) for the sake of your conscience, not my own? How would Jehovah be pleased with that?

If I am to be put on trial, I want the questions in writing in advance and a list of the rules of evidence to be used by those who have set themselves up as my eternal judge, usurping Jesus' authority, as to whether his sacrifice covers my sins and doubts. (Maybe this one could use some toning down.)

i was an apostate 4 years prior to this marvelous date...... wonder why someone saw fit to keep me alive til today?

Gee, Mike, you've been out longer than I have! Good on you! I left in 1979, being forced to entertain the possibility that I might actually have to live in the real world and needing to acquire the skills to do so.

Got to ask yourself the question, "Where are you now" ?

i'm listening to the song "wisemen" by james blunt, and i'm meditating the words he is saying, relating it to my faith, or what's left of it...... where are you now ?.

A couple of times I have taken religion-related online quizzes. One told me that I am a fence straddler religion-wise. Another told me that the "perfect" religion for me would be Unitarianism.

My grandparents were Christians in the true sense of the word; i.e., they lived it as strongly as they believed it. Having their example, I still embrace Christianity despite my inner conflicts and doubts. I don't attend church regularly, but find it renewing when I do.

My experiences have taught me a lot, or I have learned what I have chosen to learn from them.

In short, I consider myself to have a much larger perspective and understanding of where other people are coming from and a keener ability to see why they make choices that don't make sense to others.

my boy is giving his first bible reading on the main platform tomorrow.....i want to show him i am proud of him for standing up in front of everyone doing his best.....but at the same time i dont ever want to go back to that den of iniquity...he he.....what should i do.....p.s i think i already know....so talk me out of it

What coffee said. Then let him know that you are proud of him and will always be around to support him in reaching his goals and whenever he needs you. Is he as funny as you? Maybe you could give him some jokes to work into his speech!

Happy Thanksgiving! What Do You Feel Thankful For in Your Life ?

hello all, and happy thanksgiving wherever you are !

i know other people started threads on this, but you know me, mr. analyze this, analyze that , what do you guys feel personally thankful for in this time in your life ?

lots to be thankful for , to be sure.

Most of all I am thankful for my daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law. They are all great people, and I love them dearly.

Then, I am thankful for my comfortable life -- good job, decent income, more than enough of what I need and much of what I want.

Freedom! It is priceless, and I have it in spite of being a woman in a world where many women are kept down.

Last but not least, my sincere gratitude goes to the people on this board who keep me grounded, amused, and hopeful for the future! You're the best!

Thanks, flipper, for reminding us to remind ourselves of our blessings.

Orphan or Alternative Thanksgiving Plans?

so, like many of us, i find myself sans family for the holidays.

i'm only on speaking terms with my sisters, one cousin, an aunt and an uncle.

my sisters are several hours drive away and i have to work friday (grrr).

My friend LaVerne and I are going out.

Last year, LaVerne and I cooked for ourselves and four other folks who don't have family locally.

Volunteering at a church food kitchen would be a good way to spend the day if you are inclined to doing volunteer work.

In any case, make it a happy Thanksgiving.
