It sounds like they just keep adding another cup of water to the soup.

Deteriorating content of the WT
by His Excellency inhas anyone noticed the recent deterioration in the quality of wt's contents lately?..
the spiritual food seems to be getting more and more shitty these days.
i have given a thought to what could really be going wrong, and if it is likely that some on the wiriting committee is consciously dishing out those nonsense to facilitate more poeple seeing ttat.

If it were possible to add up the number of individual partakers since the beginning of the organization when C.T. Russell was in charge, I wonder if the total would add up to more than 144,000. Does anyone have statistics to enlighten us on this?
When they all get to heaven, won't there be too many Americans, too many people born after 1879? Of the billions of people who have lived on this planet, the ones who were lucky here are also the ones who will be in heaven, according to JW theology.

This is the first time I ever heard of Kundalini. I watched both videos. I am an Appalachian American (the politically correct term for hillbilly), and when I was very small, I was taken to the Holiness Church where people appeared to me to be out of control for hours on end. Both of my grandfathers were country preachers (hey, beats coal mining, and is legal, unlike moonshining). The people I knew back then were uneducated, simple, pure and sincere. They were true believers who "got the Holy Ghost" at church and gyrated, jumped around and shouted. I am grateful that there was no snake handling in the churches I had to attend.
In college, I took a cours in Introduction to the Study of Religion. In one class session, we watched a video of a woman in an Eastern country doing some sort of dance as a result of being "possessed by a spirit" of some kind. I told the professor that it reminded me of a Pentecostal religious expression. He agreed. In the video, it stated that the woman lived "in the middle of the country" wherever she lived. The point was made that people who are inclined to this type of religious expression are those who have little or no contact with other cultures. This was certainly the case where we lived when I was a single-digit child.
If the guy in the video thinks all of this jerking and shaking is something new, he is wrong. The rest of the world is simply finally catching up with us hillbillies! In fact, I read an interview with Tina Fey in which she was asked her family's favorite meal She said white beans with rosemary and cornbread. Beans and cornbread! We hillbillies were so ahead of our time!
You 'uns needs to know that I didn't always talk proper and so on 'til I moved to the big city and got tired of them a callin' me a "hick" and a "briar" an' throwin' off on me all the time.

Chichi:
I don't know what you allegedly did to get disfellowshipped, but a lot of people are disfellowshipped for just being normal.
It's really an opportunity to learn about yourself, who you really are, what you want out of life. As the old saying goes, There's no use crying over spilt milk. So, try the orange juice, the grape juice, and all of the delightful things you've been missing out on. Go see some good movies. Join a club or two and make some friends. Do volunteer work at a soup kitchen or a school. There is so much more to life than going to meetings and knocking on doors of strangers.
Sit down right now and make a list of things you want to do. Tomorrow, get up and start doing them.
Welcome to freedom!

I read 1984 in the 1960's. In the 1980's, my then husband found a book at the library entitled The Orwellian World of Jehovah's Witnesses by Gary Botting. If you have not read it, I recommend that you do.
What I get from that letter is that the GB is feeling like the rug is being pulled out from under them because of the mass exit of the good JW's. Their technique is called front loading, i.e., telling the other(s) that they do things for a certain reason, hoping that the other party or parties will do it and believe they are doing it for the stated "reason."
I remember a part in the book about the price of sugar going up, and the next week the telescreen praises Big Brother because the price of sugar went down the previous week. This reminds me of the 1975 craziness. My niece, also an ex-dub, told me that the 1975 business was contrived by individual witnesses and was not published. She was born in 1975 and had no memory of the publications and the anticipation they generated.
Living in a democracy is great. Why did I ever choose to live under a totalitarian regime when I had free will?

Why do Jw's have to pay for CO's expenses?
by nolongerconfused inthis is something that has always bothered me!.
why do rank and file have to pay for co's do's expenses, car, health insurance, meals, etc, etc...?.
didn't the apostle paul say that all christians have to be self sufficient and work?, not depending on anyone else and cause a burden?.

I always wondered the same thing, but secretly. The only reason I know is that every movement has its elite who live off the labors of the lowly.

Hortensia: Thanks for the encouraging words.
Open Mind: Since I was last posting on this board, your situation seems to have improved significantly. You were still an active JW, struggling with getting your family to see TTATT. Once you asked for advice on reading material for your kids. I suggested Watership Down. Did you guys read it? If so, what did you think of it? I loved it!

This post reminds me of a couple of things.
The first one is that I once posted (not sure if it was on this board) about the folderal about clothing at the KH. I got an e-mail from an active JW lurker who told me a funny story about a young woman in her congregation who was constantly being "counseled" (i.e., harassed) by elders about what she was wearing.
One Sunday she appeared at the KH dressed to shock. She marched right up to the podium and started yelling about the treatment she was getting, and making quite a scene. The e-mailer told me that she was sure the people in the neighborhood around the hall could hear her as well. I would have made a "donation" to see that!
The other thing it reminds me of is a quotation from Dolly Parton. She said something like (and I paraphrase): "When I was growing up, there were certain women in my town who wore their skirts too high, their blouses too low, dyed their hair and wore a lot of makeup. Everybody called them 'trash.' I knew from the very beginning that when I grew up, what I wanted to be was trash.
We all have our own way of expressing ourselves. I've noticed that a lot of the criticism comes from those who are not attractive enough to look good by enhancing themselves.
Let us know what happens. Be sure those eyelashes are well anchored.

Practical Problems Arising From Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses - not on jw.org
by InterestedOne inwhat practical problems arise from leaving jehovah's witnesses?
this question was inspired by a poster whose jw friend refused to be a reference for an apartment.
i wonder if most jw's know deep down that they need to maintain some ties with non-jw's in case they find themselves either deciding to leave or ostracized for some reason..

The key is to prepare before exiting. Make some worldly friends. Establish some contacts to help you get a job. At the very least, register with a temp agency, as temporary jobs often can lead to full-time employment.
If there are unbelieving relatives or friends from high school who will take you in until you get established, ask them for help. They may be delighted to help you exit the cult. It helped me to move to the other end of the country, where I had a cousin, and where jobs were plentiful at that time.
Best wishes to your friend. and to all struggling with becoming free,
SandraC
