  Hi, Change. I would like to clarify a few things.

  I did become a JW. I was a 15-year-old at the time. I don't blame anyone. It just seemed like the thing to do. However, I would not have been exposed to the JW's at all if my dad had not wanted to "Kiss up" to his boss.

  I did want to be a Christian at that young age. I had lived with my grandparents the first ten years of my life, and they were Christians in the true sense of the word, good, hard-working, kind and generous human beings. However, they did not have the slick presentation of the JW's.

  I was a JW for 17 years. For the first five years or so, I was a single JW with no other family members in the borg. It was when I married an elder and became more familiar with the inner workings, the pettiness, the constant infighting, and the downright hypocrisy, that I woke up and smelled the coffee.

  I do not blame anyone for my own choices. I hate the blame game. I do understand, though, that one's environment can influence one to make poor choices. I do not have to obey anyone now.

  Girl scout cookies are demonized

  okay so i think it might be the concussion making me go on this rant...not too sure.. the girl scouts started selling their cookies yesterday and for the first time in my life i will be ordering cookies.....i mean wtf is so wrong with ordering cookies from them?

  i love the thin mint's and guess what?

  you can only buy them from girl scouts!!!!!!.

  i have been skimming the magazine this morning, and the whole issue seems designed to keep the flock at the kh.

  yes, i know this is not exactly " new " information.

  still with all the problems the organization is having, this one just seemed to strike me as odd.

  All of this "apostate" paranoia did not exist when I was on the inside, in pre-internet days. I just remember a passing comment once in a while about "the man of lawlessness." I do remember people at an assembly or two pasing out anti-WT tracts. I just took one and promptly threw it in the trash. Now, apparently, every meeting and assembly has some kind of "apostate" component. They are scared of losing their empire.

  What about all of the other religions that are not experiencing growth in Puerto Rico? Are they going to sue? Probably not. They accept reality and change. People in general are not as religious as they used to be, particularly in the developed world.

  Does a religion have a fundamental "right" to increase in membership.

  Only the one I was married to. He was (and probably still is) an ISTJ. They are drill sergeants at heart. I was a doormat.

  When I was getting close to 30 years old, I started to realize I was old enough to make my own decisions about what to watch on TV, what kind of food I wanted, and all other everyday things that didn't require supervision. That's when the sh*t hit the fan. To some degree, I am guilty of creating the monster he became because I was always scraping and bowing and expressing gratitude for every little thing to the point that he began to believe he actually was the little god I made him into.

  As a former "Elderette," I can attest to the fact that there was gossip in the car groups. I was a suck-up to the chief Elderette, who was a pioneer. She used to tell me things about people, but withheld their names. I usually felt that I knew who she was talking about.

  My elder husband used me as his secretary. When he was school servant, he would have me make the assignments and type the schedule. He also had me fill out the "report cards" used in the TM school. Once, after a committee meeting with a young man who was having sex (!), he dictated a letter for me to type to the Society, or CO, or somebody. Once he was counseled because one of the elders recognized my handwriting on one of his documents.

  The worst thing about the whole scenario was that I got little respect. The little respect (or whatever it was) I did get was because I was an elder's wife, not for me personally. I can tell you that as a single JW whose family was "worldly" was quite a contrast to being an elder's wife in terms of anyone paying any attention to me.

  Another Elderette and I had a discussion one day about the same "crisis" we were having about not being able to decide what brand to buy in the grocery store. She actually called her husband to get permission to buy another brand of cooking oil because it was on sale.

  I had to buy a particular brand of bread, but I wanted to switch to whole wheat. Mr. Elder said no. Then a couple of months later, our neighbor JW recommended whole wheat bread to him. He came into the house and told me he wanted to switch to whole wheat because pretty JW neighbor lady recommended it. At that point, I lost it. I told him that I had wanted to switch earlier but that he had vetoed it. Then I said, "I think you listened to her because you think she's pretty and I'm not!" I had him.

  The next time we went out in field service and pretty JW neighbor was making recommendations about the car group, he wouldn't accept her recommendations. He told me she "needed to be put in her place." I disagreed. She was not the problem. (I liked her and considered her a nice and intelligent person, and, yes, pretty, too). He was, and I didn't stick around too much longer.
