Can anyone help?

hi, i'm doing some research, which many here have participated in and could do with some help.. on another forum some months ago someone commented that in a july 1992 watchtower it said that the emotional effects of disfellowshipping may last far beyond reinstatement.

i thought this a really interesting statement and would like to include it in my assignment, acknowledging the harm done by disfellowshipping and its not just a protective and disciplinary process.

i don't know if i believe they would actually go that far.. my problem is that i have no access to wt literature (i dont really want fo visit my old congregation library) and the online library on www.jw.org only goes back to 2000. does anyone here have access to bound volumes and a bit of time that they could check this out for me?.

There was a sister in one of my old congregations (pre-1992) who had been DF'd for adultery, I believe. I don't think she wanted to be reinstated, but her mother pushed and pushed the sister and the elders until they all caved and she was reinstated.

After she was reinstated, I heard remarks like, "Well, what's she going to do now? Nobody in their right mind would marry her." This poor woman married a "worldly" man and got everybody making snide remarks about that.

Now that her mother is no longer around, I wonder if she's still in.

I have never been to another church where "apostates" were ever mentioned.

In the Holiness (southern mountain folk), there were people who had "backslid" or were "not livin' right," but it was hoped that they would get back on track and return to Jesus -- not necessarily to the Holiness Church, but to Jesus.

In the Episcopal Church, there is a lot of turnover. People join other churches or just stop attending. No big deal, as everybody has to work out their own spiritual path.

In the Baptist Church, they are warned and given Biblical arguments against JW's, Mormons and other cult groups, but no dire warnings about "apostates."

The above-named churches, however, were not counting on their membership solely for revenue enhancement to pay for sexual molestation judgments.

Lord help the poor JW's. They have been duped, and are lost and 'way downstream.

Is a slow fade being selfish when you have kids?

so i got some great advice to take things very slowly with the husband and kids in order to be able to fade and still maintain contact with my parents and siblings.

but today i got a call from my son's teacher that he was having a meltdown because he was worried about all his friends and teachers being destroyed at armageddon.... first i felt like such a schmuck for ever having allowed that thought to enter my son's head, then i thought, is it psychological torture for me not to immediately correct the situation?

i had a long talk with him about how god is perfectly just and full of love and he didn't have to worry about that at all, but it still seemed lukewarm.

All of the ideas expressed here are good. You might want to consult a professional because it is terrible for a child to be living under so much stress and anxiety Probably once the child has been distanced from the brainwashing, he will be fine.

Once when my niece was a teenager, she was studying with JW's. She talked to a school friend on the 'phone, and somehow got onto the subject of being "demonized." I told her that normal people don't sit around talking about "demons." Nor do they sit around discussing Armageddon, the destruction of the world, and the wholesale slaughter of almost everyone living. Your son needs to learn in whatever way possible that all of his fears are irrational, based on the interpretation of scripture by uneducated, self-aggrandizing slave drivers -- not in those terms, of course.

Some years ago, the WTS made blood transfusion a "matter of conscience" in Bulgaria, but only in Bulgaria because of government policy there. So, maybe they'll set up a fake charity ans minimize shunning only in Australia.

JWs Lack of Love and Feelings

i have noticed the extreme lack of love in this group of people who preach love, love, love.. we recently had serious floods come through our area and the jws couldnt have cared less.

our 'worldly' friends did sooo much for us though.

raising money, giving gifts, cards, accomodation and so much support and hard work.. i personally think jws are one of the most insensitive, uncaring religions around.. three religious groups were absolutely wonderful during the flooding of our area.

"Way back, when I was married to an elder, I kept a sister's baby so she could take her older son to the dentist. I was told by my "loving" husband that the only legitimate reason to babysit would be to allow her to go out in service. I was also criticized for babysitting a Bitle student's child so she could take the other child to the ER.

I'm so glad to be able to make my own judgments and do what is right because it's right.

i ended up here after spending the past few months researching jw, without the blinders on.

i was a born-in, baptized as a teen, pioneered out of high school for a couple years (turning down a 4 year scholarship).

When I left my family to become a JW, I missed many of my family members. My dad came from a large family, and I have many cousins close to my age. I did not live near any of them, and it made me sad and uncomfortable to know that all of them were going to die "soon" and then I'd never even have the opportunity to see them.

So, after 17 years, I left the JW's and went back to my family. They treated me as if nothing had ever happened. I had isolated them, not the other way around.

It works both ways.

My daughter was never baptized a JW. My granddaughter know nothing about them, but feels sorry for her mother because she didn't get to have birthday parties or Christmas celebrations or anything that was fun and child-like.

We whose families are not JW's have something gooooood to go back to.

A day when I just about lost it

i never wrote about the event i'm about to describe when it happened.

when you are upset you can't write about anything objectively.

Typical . . . Your friend's wife might be called upon to tell her story at the next assembly.

When I was still on the inside, I remember reading an experience of a JW wife and mother of numerous children. The "worldly" husband and father abused all of them. They sometimes had to sleep in the barn to get away from his abuse.

The upshot of the whole thing was that after 20 or so years of this unrelenting abuse, the sperm donor / husband became "interested in the truth."

It does not matter that he ruined the lives of his wife and children. What mattered was that the criminal "saw the light" (no disrespect to Hank Williams) at last.

What horsesh*t!
