confusedandalone: The Proctor & Gamble weirdness took place in the '80's. Supposedly, a company representative of P&G was on the Phil Donahue Show and said the symbol on the P&G products was somehow associated with the occult or "demons" in JW vernacular. I could not find anyone who had actually seen the show, but they all knew somebody who knew somebody else who had seen it. ;-) Anyway, my parents (who became JW's after I had already exited - weird family) quit buying Crisco, Duncan Hines cake mix and other P&G products. So did lots of otherwise intelligent people who believed themselves to be Christians. For all their faults, my parents did not shun me. They had known me my entire life, and knew what a goody two-shoes I had always been, so they blamed my JW husband for my exit from the Watchtower. So I had the opportunity to tell them that an inked picture of a crescent moon and stars had no power. They did not believe me, of course. Nevertheless, a few weeks later, my mom started using P&G products again. She explained it with, "Well, now they're ("they" was never identified) saying that's just a lot of bull." Oh, the reasoning skills of Christians!

Theocratic Ministry School Review night?
by FadeToBlack inhow can i tell without even looking at the schedule that it is time for the review?
my wife decides she is not going to the meeting.
she told me earlier this week we had an invitation for dinner/drinks with one of our neighbors down the street.

Written review was part of the pseudo-intellectual aspect of being a JW that I actually liked. I don't recall heavy absence on written review night at either of the two congregations I attended. Nor do I recall anybody making a big deal about scores or grading the papers. I do recall walking to the restroom once and seeing the written review page of an elder's teenage son. He was just sitting there, looking bored, and not writing answers to the questions. Scrawled across the page in capital letters was one word: FOOT. That was probably his version of an "F" word.

I Know A MS That Just Got Reappointed As An Elder After 5 Years And Still Thinks He's Not Qualified
by minimus inhe's a very good man and recognizes his limitations.
he still dislikes field service and considers himself inferior to the other elders.
he has almost no contact with his disfellowshipped older son.

My understanding is that very few JW's want to be elders these days, and they try to press anyone they can into eldership. i.e., they're desperate. To me, the fact that this young man has self-doubt means he actually may be one of the better elders.

Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT false prophets
by SloppyJoe intonight on the service meeting we discussed why jws are not false prophets.
of the ten minute part two were spent discussing that jws just had wrong expectations and only very minor changes over the years although nothing specific was mentioned.
the other eight focused on the core bible truths that have remained the same over the years.

Quendi, I usually agree with you, but I have some issues with your view this time.
I do think there's no reason to go out of our way to see JW's or interact with them. But, if I see someone I know, JW or not, I will acknowledge them. It would be rude not to. They are the ones being a**holes, so I'm willing to be the nobler party, and to let them be seen for what they are.

August is the most common birth month, probably because of the November holidays. My mother and my ex-husband were both born in August.

Are you getting counseling? Does your local District Attorney's office have victim advocates for people who are sexually abused?
You need help and support. Please see a counselor who specializes in child molestation AND call the DA's office and find out if there is any way to get a victim advocate appointed for you.
As others have said, don't worry about the statute of limitations. Just try to do whatever you can to let the community know.
Do you have friends who will pass out flyers in the neighborhood where he lives to notify his neighbors that a child molestor lives close by? Do you have friends who will picket the Kingdom Hall with you if he is reappointed?
Alert the media. Alert law enforcement (DA and police). Alert his neighbors. Just make sure people know exactly who he is and exactly what he did over as wide an area as possible.
Please take care of yourself. Please get help.

Is The WTS Building Beth Sarim 2 ?
by metatron ini continue to puzzle over the future direction the watchtower is taking.
it seems very strange.. let's review: they are selling everything off in brooklyn, raking in huge sums from that real estate and building heavily in a fairly isolated part of upstate ny.. why?.
it may be classified as a country club (legally).

If ex-JW's want to walk in front with protest signs, will anyone be around to notice?
If they have to pay millions in child molestation lawsuits, can they pay it with interest off the profit they're making?
If they decide to stop being a religion because they don't want to pay out on lawsuits, can they split the money among the 8, and all be instant multi-millionaires?
It's impossible to know their motives, but they have to be getting something out of it, or they wouldn't do it. So saith Dr. Laura (not about the WT, but about other things that don't have a clear explanation).

Interesting experience while protesting at district conventions
by theron ware infor three weekends this summer, a friend and i protested outside district assemblies being held in the tucson convention center.
our approach was very low key and completely non-confrontational: we just held our posters and smiled.
this was our experience at the first two assemblies (for the third assembly, see the next paragraph).

My way of protesting is to print labels listing apostate websites. When I see a Watchtower or Awake! left in public places, such as laundromats, I slap a label on the front of it. Sometimes I go into laundromats and other places just to see if there are any publications there.
