Ken Ross was a born-in, or a convert in childhood. His parents split up, and he was reared in the projects. His mom was a housekeeper for a local doctor, who sent a chauffeur to the projects every day to take her to work. His sister also married a non-JW, a professional for the state of TN. He was a JW when he went to college. The first time I met him, I told him I had gone to college for two years. He said he had gone to college, and was apologetic about it. He also had married a "worldly" woman and converted her. He had a way of speaking that was rather "wooden," and his pronunciation was very precise. He was actuallly a nice guy. Clearly, he was ambitiious, a good thing outside the WT world.
He was not an elder at that time. He was the school servant, whcih probably means he was an MS.
Good for him for flouting the WT and yet remaining in their good graces!
on the basis that most of us realise the w.t wasnt really the best " job" or way to spend our days, it would be fun to find out what people would really have liked to have done with there lifes and if this is still possible.
or maybe its not even a very realistic ambition just a dream.
in my dreams i stay at home all day and make a living from being a professional artist.maybe i need a phycholgist?.
I love to write, and I love language. I would be a freelance writer and a teacher of English as a second language. It could stilll happen!
attention!.
i'm in my final re-write of the monorails of mars novel.. as you may know, the book is a sci-fi allegory concerning mind control by the watch tower.. .
i have a scene in nikola tesla's laboratory in which he is about to attempt an exchange between mars and earth.. the volunteers--instead of actually traveling physically from one planet to the other will instead swap minds.. need i say--it will go wrong?!.
Bill Blythe is Bill Clinton's birth name. He was adopted by his stepfather.

At the top of the list is a Search box. Type in Jehovah's Witnesses, and a short list will come up. Click on the item entitled "Jehovah's Witness Honored for . . "
can anyone tell me exactly how the jws advertised the '75 being the end of the world?
how were they soooo effective?
i mean, other cults are effective also, but damn!
"Stay alive 'til '75!" was the war cry! JW's were postponing medical procedures and wild debates about how they would survive the "great tribulation." My daughter won't let me forget that I sold her tricycle at a garage sale! Collective madness reigned! We all reinforced one another. As rebel8 says, there were convoluted calculations and special speculations. Everyone was on edge. There was a special edition of the Awake! We were told to study with people for six months, and if they were not interested after that, to drop them like a hot potato.
What a huge letdown when nothing happened. The "prophecy" was first printed in a book called Everlasting Freedom in the Sons of God, published in 1967. So eight years of anticipation just fell flat. Then they told us we were on the "open sea," having passed the last marker, but Armageddon was sure to come "soon." I understand that it's still coming "soon." It had a profound effect on me, having postponed my life for this pipe dream cataclysm.
So, now we ask ourselves, Would I want to spend eternity with the JW's I have known? Only so much eating fruit and petting lions is enough!
Of course, we didn't just greet a householder with a statement that the world was ending next year. Our presentations were pretty much standard, with a heavy emphasis on the Truth book. Once we started "studying" with anyone, however, we were direct and didn't mince words.
This post is a little jagged, but I think I make my point.
the link i posted will bring up a list of topics.
go the the search box at the top and type in "jehovah's witnesses.
" the topic i referenced is "jehovah's witness honored by chamber of commerce.

Check this out. I once knew this guy.
its been a long time since i have been this enraged at the evilness and shameless exploitation by the jws.
i just got back from the meeting (dont ask) and sat through the km article laying out plans to mass convert nursing homes all over the world.
i am not going to labor the obvious ethical travesty of this plan but i will say that it constitutes a major public health risk.
My great aunt was in a very nice Lutheran nursing home, probably one of the best anywhere. It did not smell of urine, as many nursing homes do. However, they administered so much "medication" ("keep the natives quiet pills") that many of the residents were clueless. Once my niece and I were visiting and saw a group of residents staring at a blank TV screen in the lobby. My niece remarked, "They think they're watching TV!" I once saw a lady go to the nurses' station and request a room as if she were at a hotel. The JW's have their hands full taking this one on. They will have to target the wealthy, who might not be so vulnerable to overmedication. The families of the wealthy seniors probably will make short work of getting rid of any JW's coming around.
I'm not worried.
did you loath them?
did you feel it was a "privilege" to have the elders care deeply about your spiritual well being?
if you were an elder or ministerial servant, did you enjoy going to the homes of the sheep?.
No shepherding calls for me. I moved to the other end of the country. One sister, to whom I had been very close, sent me a hate letter. Later on, I went back to the town where my congregation was. I didn't get shepherding calls, but harassing phone calls. Good! Woke me up!
