  this photograph from a news site is a succinct summary of a life in wt's hands....... look at their faces, it says it all.. also, note the watchtower pr machine in action, explaining that it brings 4 million dollars to the location.

  I read a couple of Harry Potter books and listened to several on CD's. The reason I did was that my granddaughter was reading them. She was always more of a social butterfly than a readier, so I wanted to see what about these particular books appealed to her. I enjoyed reading the books very much, probably because I love rooting for the underdog! They are worthwhile and offer some wisdom to the reader.

  Israelites as "examples for modern witnesses"??

  it amazes me how the gb and witnesses keep using the ancient isrealites as examples for modern day "servants of god" (read: good witnesses).

  how can an ignorant, ancient people who worshipped with animal sacrifices, went to war, killed children, stoned people, treated women as property, called women unclean due to normal body cycles, allowed polygamy, etc......be used as good examples?.

  i mean, the gb can't have it both ways!

  On the old H2O discussion board, a JW apologist posted the story of David and Bathsheba and "Jehovah's" forgiveness, and posed the question as to what we learn about "Jehovah" from the story. My reply was that "Jehovah" must surely have an inordinate fondness for bad boys.

  Apparently, that was the wrong answer.

  How We Come Across On The Board

  most people here have never met you.

  we converse, discuss, argue, laugh, agree, question, share our lives..... quite often, you kind of get to know what a person is like.

  some people, we tend to gravitate to and others, we shy away from.. how do you think you come across to other people?

  i have always been extremely active in every aspect of the org, since childhood.

  To make friends, you have to meet people. I suggest volunteer work, joining a club, taking a class, or any activity where you interact with others. It's just a matter of time. Life - be in it!

  recently, my mother, who had stopped talking to me because i was 'apostate,' started speaking to me again.. (note that i successfully faded as opposed to ever being disfellowshipped due to dodging every elder question with "i'm not sure, i'm still searching and trying to find the answers.").

  the reason why?

  at the international convention this year, they receieved a new video called something or other.

  Who else but the WT could take a situation that would be ideal (except for the debt) and make it into a crisis. Here we have a healthy family with talent, intelligence, and educational opportunity! They are actually developing their talent and accepting reality. What a horror!

  You don't seem to be as happy anymore!?

  i have been told by some in the cong that i don't seem to be as happy anymore..."what's wrong?

  " they ask..... i feel like screaming out "i'm not happy because i'm going insane living a sham fake life stuck in the org pretending to be a good ms and witness!".

  i really do feel it is taking a toll on me...and even the damn bros and sis are now seeing it!.

  I agree with those who tell you that it is in your best interest to cut loose. It's one of the hardest things I ever did, but the most rewarding thing I ever did. I've been where you are - depressed and hopeless. If you need help to get away, PM me. Can you get a job in another part of the country and just leave? That's what I did, with the help of a cousin.

  What prophecys made you belive the Bible?

  i now believe the bible is a book of history and myths.

  the org and others still point to certain prophecys that lead them to believe, that god must have been involved.

  how can we explain some of these?

  Both of my grandfathers were fundamentalist country preachers, uneducated but very good, decent, hardworking people. It never occurred to me NOT to believe every word in the Bible. It is only post-JW that I have doubts and conflicts about anything Biblical. Bill Maher is my current "religulous" instructor.

  Two well dressed young men came knocking

  here's my experience in the last 15 minutes.

  it's about 6 p.m and i'm home alone watching tv when someone knocks loudly on the door.

  i open and there, like an apparation, stand two of j smith's disciples -smart looking , well dressed ( they used to wear black ties only a few years ago) clean cut.. i inform them that i'm an ex-j witness and they are quiet for a moment.
