so now what?
by Kaltas1 ini don't really know what to say i'm a bit nervous.
but i am new here and i want to say thank you all for these forums and the many contributions people have made.. for about 9 months i been frequenting here and other places on the net while i have undergone an in depth bible analysis.
after finding that my bible is not consistant with the more favorable options of translating greek words especially in key doctinal areas, i have concluded the great unlikelyhood of jehovah's witnesses having god's blessing and approval.. not just that though.

You sound like you're being a bit impatient with yourself. It takes time to overcome the effects of being in a high control group.
Your research is impressive. Do you read and understand Greek?
Welcome to the forum.

So, there was a great "apostasy" in the first century? This assertion reminds me of a passage in 1984 where Winston (or his tormentors) make the observation that those who control the present control the past. I have not heard of this "apostasy" from any other source.
IMHO, they are drawing a parallel between the first century and the present to get the publishers to believe there has always been "apostasy" and they'll ride it out.
Who knows?

breaking up is hard to do
by fresh prince of ohio inbackground: i joined the jws when i was 21, left about 11 years ago.. up until recently, i had never been in a relationship that went longer than a few months.
and that was just one.. i've been with my current for the past 3.5 years.
she's, just, okay.. i've never felt like, oh, i love her so much.

Mum
You will only create more misery for both of you if you continue this relationship. Work on finding someone who is right for you.
Is she a JW? Are you?
Find a reason that she will accept to end it, as soon as possible.
Talk to a mental health professional to get some tips on how to do what you must do.

My non-JW brother-in-law has had a brother, two sisters-in-law (his brother's wife and me) and a daughter who have been dubs. Only his brother and sister-in-law are still dubs, his brother being a recent convert whose wife converted in the early '70's.
Recently, my b-i-l's mother died, and hs brother and sister-in-law behaved arrogantly. They would not come inside the funeral home, although they did show up for the funeral. We don't know if it is because my ex-JW niece was there or because a Baptist minister was performing the service. Either way, they stayed outside.
A few weeks ago, some JW's showed up at my sister's and b-i-l's front door. My b-i-l started yelling at them and told them they were a crazy cult and that there was no way he was going to let some old men in Brooklyn run his life. They asked him about his brother. He said that he never sees his brother since his brother became a JW (just a year or two ago, I think, after living with a JW wife for many years).
My sister was not present when all of this occurred, but she found out about it and told it to me the other day.
I was the first to become a JW in our family. I feel almost responsible for some of this nonsense.
When a man won't go to his own mother's funeral after that mother did a lot for him, that's a sure sign that he's in a cult.

Here's a funny story about eggs. You were not the only egg-deprived child, it seems. Sam Levinson was, too.
If you've ever read any books or articles by Sam Levinson, you've had some good laughs. In one of his books he explains why he and his brothers never got to eat eggs. There was only one sister and about eight brothers in the Levinson household. When Mrs. Levinson had eggs, she gave them to her daughter to ensure that her daughter would reproduce when she got older. I think Sam describes it as a "fertility ritual" of some kind.

Neo-Nazi Buddhists persecute Muslims in Myanmar.
by fulltimestudent inin myanmar and thailand, islam is a minority religion and the buddhists are supreme.. both nations are the scene of atrocities committed by buddhists against muslims, (the difference is that in thailand, muslims have been fighting back).. this asia times report tries to analyse the myanmar problems.
myanmar's neo-nazi buddhists get free rein: .
(which is another way of saying that neither the government or aung san suu kyi's opposition party speaks agains the persecution).

I suppose Buddhists can be crazy, too. Buddhism teaches that it's fine to stick with whatever religion you grew up with. You can be a Buddhist and have another religion at the same time, though the other religion may not agree.
I have heard of Muslims desecrating Buddhist temples and statues, but this is the first of heard of Buddhists persecuting those of another religion. Am I ill-informed?

Wow, CC, that's such a sad story. We were very poor when I was small, but we had chickens and fresh eggs every day. To me, oatmeal was a treat because we put lots of sugar, butter and milk on it. We had fresh milk from the cow every day, too. My grandmother made fresh butter as well. I can see her churning now - a precious memory.
Eggs are one of the cheapest items at the supermarket. They're getting more expensive, but still they're a lot cheaper than meat.
I can certainly relate to the favoritism issue, as I'm sure many others can as well. But I was the lucky one in our family regardless of favoritism. My life has had much more adventure and learning than either of my siblings'.

What If Before You Enter The Intersantum (KHall) you had to write, on a piece of paper...
by LoisLane looking for Superman in...what you think the top 10 doctrines of your, jw religion, (cited bible scripture as well...not cited corporation publications), are.
lol.
it is my guess, some of the answers would be "old" thinking that would get you df for not keeping up with, "this week's... what the governing body heard from god", stories, regurgitated as gospel.

Here's my list (of the ones that don't change):
1. Obey us at all times, no matter how old you are or how much education you have, or how many of our dirty little secrets you know.
2. Don't associate with "worldly" people or "apostates." They might persuade you that you deserve a life of your own.
3. There is a pecking order here, and you'd better know your place. Women and children are at the bottom no matter how "faithful" they are.
4. It is okay to harm others, but only if they are women, children, disfellowshipped, disassociated, marked, or otherwise on our sh*t list.
5. Thinking will get you a meeting with the Thought Police (i.e., a JC)
6. Don't get an education, because it is likely to give you enough critical thinking skills that you will no longer want to be our slave.
7. If you want to have a social life, check with us first, To us, you're all incorrigible second graders.
8. If you or your child needs a blood transfusion, even to save your life, you must choose death over disobeying us.
9. Don't smoke because you might smell bad and keep householders from wanting you around.
10. Don't read books (except WT publications) or go to movies because you might learn something or even enjoy yourself.
Any others?
