The one thing I miss apparently no longer exists. I miss four days of no food preparation or housework. It was the JW version of a "vacation."

Today's "gay-bashing" and other embarrassing content public talk!
by stuckinarut2 inoh wow..... the public talk today is certainly embarrassing for witnesses!.
started (completely left field too...seemed to come out of nowhere) with condemning homosexuality, and anyone who even tolerates it.
if you like tv shows or movies with gay characters, you are "just as bad" (eg modern family tv show).

One of my college English teachers pointed out that most people do not want to open their minds, but simply to have confirmation of what they already believe. My daughter's in-laws, who are actually very nice, tolerant people in most ways, are very religious and anty-gay. Now they have a gay grandson. I don't know if their relationship with him has changed, but they must be struggling with it.
We all know people who refuse to accept reality. I have reminded my sister many times that being gay does no harm to anyone and there's no need for her to be concerned about it.
On the TV show Northern Exposure some years ago, a character made a statement that it is heterosexuals who are "riding down life's highway at a high rate of speed without a helmet."

I Would Like To Know More Clearly Anthony Morris's Demon Phobic Stand On Smurfs Being Demonized And Sparlock Type Toys
by frankiespeakin indoes anybody have any recordings about him speaking about his phobia?
i heard his warning about some type of uncanny powers to beware of but forget what exactly.
any way i'm sure we can all blame the anti sparlock type toy video on him so he must have this unreasonable phobia and it would be good to highlight this in his bullshit talks..

I wonder why demons would be interested in toy design. Maybe there's not much going on in the invisible world, so they go around "inspiring" designers. I love modern furniture, the sleek, minimalistic kind that is easy care and still comfortable. Since it's something I enjoy, the demons must be behind it. Much of this type of furniture was designed by Danes, and Danes are at the top of the happiness scale. Demonized Danes delighting me with their demon-inspired creativity! Those demons should design some nice affordable homes.

Athiests: Do you ever wonder... what if?
by toweragent ini'll start by saying, i'm a ministerial servant who is trapped in the religion.
my wife is hardcore...but i've slowly been getting her to lighten up, so i'll take it!
all my friends and family are jw's, and i am employed by a jw (who is actually a great boss).

The Bible as History by Werner (Warner?) Keller is a good one to start with. Once in a university library, I found some commentaries by John Calvil that I liked very much. Also read as much as you can of Summa Theologia by St. Thomas Aquinas. There is some deep thought in the latter, and it will take a long time to digest it. Happy researching!

Watchtower Tells Us "Employers Seek JWs Only" Yet Most JW Employers Avoid Hiring JWs, Why?
by BucketShopBill inhere's a thought: we're told over and over how employers sing the praises of their jw employees, sometimes with a vague quote about how 'if we could only hire jws, we would as they are so honest'.
however, while some jw employers themselves may hire jw employees (usually cheap entry level positions), most don't.
in fact, many jw's in general who have businesses have a rule not to do work with jws, even those in their congregation.

Harrass them before they harrass you
by SonoftheTrinity inwhy don't dfs who really know how evil jehovah's witnesses are just harrass them as they go door knocking so that when someone intervenes to defend them they get a balanced story about what the jehovah's witnesses are all about.
the ones that were raised in it were raised to be anti-intellectual wusses, they aren't going to win a debate or kick anyone's ass.
but they certainly deserve philosophical and rhetorical smackdowns, they deserve haters standing in their way as they go harrassing everybody in the neighborhood.

It's probably a good way to get charged with stalking and sometimes serious legal consequences. Plus what everybody else said.

If JW's could behave normally, you could have been with your old friends. It is not your fault. It's just a matter of knowing what you can control and what you can't. If you have no control, let it go.
Now, put on some happy music and dance or go see a funny movie. Get your mind on happy things, and shut out the gloom!

?? Question for those that have successfully faded/are out:
by Darth Fader The Sequel inquestion: can any of you that have successfully faded out of the jw world without being df'd or da'd relate to me/us how you were able to maintain at least one or a few of your "still in" friends or family?
(and even if you were df'd or da'd and still maintained some relationships, how did that go?).
obviously, the truly demented, sick and twisted (and highly effective) policies and structure of the wtbt$ to set up a system by which anyone that chooses to no longer believe or participate must be treated as "mentally diseased" and a pariah by their own friends and family is the hands down, numero uno reason why many hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of jw's do not leave.
-
Mum
My fade was actually unintentional. I simply had to get away for the sake of my mental health, so I moved to the other end of the country where I had a DF'd cousin (the only other JW in our family at that time). When I got to my new home, my first priority was to get a job and find day care for my daughter. Then I went to an attorney and made a deposit on a divorce.
My then-husband called my cousin and told him that I needed to go the "the brothers" locally where I was and advise them of my "intentions." It occurred to me that he wanted me to go to three or so strange men who knew nothing about me or my mental condition and try to explain something I didn't want to talk about, particularly with strangers. It also occurred to me that I didn't have to obey my soon-to-be-ex or play by his rules. That was Step One.
I was living in a place where it was very easy to get a job at that time, and I was getting by.
It was also fortunate for me that a young, probably unbaptized sister in the congregation aided and abetted my escape.
It seems to be true that if you determine to do something, the means to do it will often appear. I feel very lucky!

Apropos to nonjwspouse's comment, in the Bottings' book entitled The Orwellian World of Jehovah's Witnesses, there is an account of a JW working in a medical facility who reported a fellow JW who had an abortion.
Maybe prospective employers can't ask about religious beliefs, but they certainly need to make the need or confidentiality crystal clear!

It would be wonderful if we could gather a list of names we all know personally and do a wall similar to the Vietnam Vets' Memorial as a tribute to those who had such strong belief they made the ultimate sacrifice. It would be great if it could be duplicated and displayed near as many JW properties as possible.
At the bottom we could list various reasons why JW's meet an untimely death: suicide, refusing a medical procedure, ill health stemming from constant harassment, etc.
I have a couple of names if we have a volunteer.
