  do jehovah's witnesses actually hate?.

  the direction given in the watchtower goes strongly against christian examples when demanding members hate an apostate.. *.

  In 1979, I came to realize that I had not become a better person as a result of being a JW, but a self-righteous, judgmental bigot! I had a war within. I determined that I was going to be better, kinder, less self-righteous and judgmental. I was also determined to take care of my mental health issues and educational deficits.

  Let them hate me. It's an honor.

  On a lighter note, I think apostates should start a business making placards that say "Ex-JW Human Apostates Live Here! JW's, avoid us!" We could sell these to householders who like to sleep in on Saturdays or who generally don't like to be interrupted by JW's. The profits could be used to start an education fund for apostates who wll need to earn a better living when they exit.

  Your worst store accident?

  mine: i was walking around a grocery store with one of those snapple iced tea boxes dangling from one hand, looking for the other thing i ran in to buy.

  suddenly the flimsy cardboard side of the box came unglued, and bottles dumped out, smashing open on the floor.

  a river of iced tea began to run down the aisle.

  When my daughter was small, we would go to K-Mart fairly regularly. Somehow, she would always get away from me, but I'd find her in the Toy Department. On one occasion, I went to the Toy Dept., but she wasn't there. I started to panic, wondering whether I should stay in the Toy Dept. because that was her favorite haunt, or if I should walk around the store looking for her. Then I heard a voice over the intercom system, saying, "There's a little girl at the Service Desk. She says her name is B-----. Will her mother come and get her?"

  I was grateful for her wisdom in finding the right place to report herself "lost," but was my face red!

  I just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain, which is narrated by the family dog. I enjoyed it immensely. Dogs are wonderful beings.

  You're right, steve2. It's probably a wash when you consider the harm done to individuals on the inside, especially women and children.

  It gives men who otherwise would be total losers an "opportunity" to be bigoted bureaucrats in charge of mind-numbed hordes of uneducated, poor, deluded people.

  Congratulations, Elders and MS's who, in the real world, could only be nobodies. But, wait a minute!

  Come to think of it, it might save lives. Random shootings are almost 100% perpetrated by white males who want to move up in society but lack the education of social skills to do so. JW's can give these potential murderers the illusion that they have achieved something and are big shots.

  Is this like one of those contemporary "works of art" I saw once on 60 Minutes - a blank canvas? There's also a musical "composition" which is 4+ minutes of listening to the audience breathing and coughing.

  Personally, I don't buy it. But, whatever floats your boat!

  They were good, especially for JW's, and especially given the kind of music they had to perform. I grew up on Southern gospel music, which is full of feeling, spirit, life! This, to me, is the JWs' toned down, insipid version of that.

  From what I've seen posted on this board lately, there seems to be a lot more emotion in JW Land these days, as if they're taking baby steps to a more Pentecostal type venue for their meetings.

  I'm shocked, of course, but happy for those who got to experience a little pseudo-joy in JW music.

  using kindle/ tablet/ iPad in meetings how to police?

  i've noticed about half my half are using these.

  of course there's always the potential for people to be looking at things non jw on them.

  are the society going to find a way to police this?

  This entire discussion is bizarre - adults worrying about whether people are spying on them and going to turn them in. If this were happening at a regular church, nobody would be worried about what someone else was doing.

  It reminds me of the time my elder ex-husband asked me why I didn't stand for the prayer. I told him this was not Catholicism, so I didn't think we had a ritual. Later, I attended a Catholic Church, where there is a formal ritual, and people knelt, sat or stood as they saw fit, without anybody questioning their individual choice.

  They (JW's) have people spying on you everywhere you go anyway, at least if any fellow dubs are around, so get over it. They spy. That's what they do. As is often said here, It's a CULT!

  There's an easy solution, purrpurr. Look at non-JW websites away from the meetings, and you shouldn't have a problem and can have peace of mind at the meetings.

  Bethel experiences sound like a prison sentence.Why even go?

  when i read about bethel experiences my mind go to the show locked up raw!.

  why would someone subject themselves to this without commeting a crime.. the wife and i went to see bethel in broklyn a few years ago and it was unlike anything i expected.

  very cold.. went the bosert hotel and was talking to a brother there and asked how long he had been there, he said 25 years...i asked how old he was.

  "Way back when, there was a Bethel couple that moved to our congregation in Tennessee. The brother had learned a skilled trade at Bethel and was able to earn a decent living. I'm sure that not everyone has this advantage.

  If you can't go to college, it's at least a way to learn some job skills, at least for the guys. I think the women get to clean and do laundry.

  Could it be that Jehovah is punishing me for leaving his religion?

  i know it's a completely absurd thing to say, but something happened to me today that triggered the old cult reaction.

  my mind instantly lapsed back into that of a jw and for a split second i thought that because i wasn't doing jehovah things that jehovah's blessing had been removed from me and this is why my life seems to be running into so many dead-ends.

  as a jw i attributed anything good happening to me to being the result of my being a good jw and dutifully doing everything the borg teaches.

  Thomas Edison was told that he was too stupid to learn anything.

  Elvis Presley was told that he would never make it show business. So was Lucille Ball.

  Abe Lincoln ran for office 26 times before being elected.

  Einstein didn't talk until he was 4 or read until he was 7. He was considered lazy by his professors. He couldn't do math in elementary school.

  I could go on and on and on. Failure is simply a part of life. If anyone has never experienced it, he or she has missed out on some important experience. Someone put a post on Facebook recently that said something like, "If we were all judged on how well we climb a tree, every fish would feel like a failure.

  We all face the challenge of finding what we do best. Then we face the challenge of findng work in that field.

  Don't take any of this persoinally. It means nothing beyond just what it is. Almost everyone has had a similar experience, whether or not they've ever been associated with JW's.

  Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start again!
