Doing away with Zoom will not hurt elderly and infirm or anyone else. It will give people options to do something else.

Why Not Celebrate Christmas?
by Mum inso, jw's don't celebrate christmas or other holidays.
as bill cetnar once said, there are two reasons for everything: the reason they tell you, and the real reason.
they will tell you it's because christmas is "pagan" and can lead to all sorts of licentious conduct (like drinking too much macallan scotch?)..

So, JW's don't celebrate Christmas or other holidays. Why? As Bill Cetnar once said, there are two reasons for everything: the reason they tell you, and the REAL REASON. They will tell you it's because Christmas is "pagan" and can lead to all sorts of licentious conduct (like drinking too much MacAllan Scotch?).
Now for the real reason: JW's are not allowed to celebrate because it's an easy way to get their families angry at their self-righteousness and superior attitude, which feeds the JW's persecution complex. It alienates the JW from family members and former friends, giving the borg more control over them. It feeds the JW sense of moral superiority and inhibits fun and merriment. It saves them money, which they can then donate to their narcissistic masters in New York.
What a clever ploy!

I've been free for over 40 years. Yet, I had a dream about being in a family getting ready for the meeting. The wife decided not to go with the child. There was a teenage girl in the home, and she had a "worldly" job. I was in one of the bedrooms listening to everything, and I heard my name mentioned, saying I'd probably go. I said I didn't want to. Meanwhile, the teenager walks up to me and says, as I say the same thing, "I HATE those meetings!" I reassured her that she was doing the right thing by working and saving money to get out. Sometimes I think I had a previous life as a JW. Strange indeed!

I have a very common name. My name is no doubt in the Book of Life, probably more than once. Is it supposed to be a literal book?

Better to have a male high schooler as an "elder" than a woman with a lifetime of experience. The main qualification to be an elder in in the south-of-the-waistline anatomy.

So-called "apostate" material feeds their persecution complex, which makes them more clingy to their delusions.

Watchtower Double Speak
by Vanderhoven7 inon eternal life.
"none of us are in position to earn god’s gifts, least of all to earn the gift of life.
but we can show ourselves worthy of the gift of eternal life by … dedicating ourselves to jehovah and then proving faithful to that dedication.” (the watchtower, august 15, 1952, p. 485).

It is presumptuous to say that we could ever be "worthy," no matter how hard we strive. That's why salvation is termed a "gift." Martin Luther called the book of James ("Faith without works is dead.") a "right strawy epistle."

WT Style Pacificism
by Sea Breeze inepisode 203 of netflix ... i am a killer looks at the murder of christopher chavez in texas.
christopher chavez was a 22 year old ministerial servant and a born-in son of an jw elder.
after a thursday night meeting and a quick bite to eat afterwards with friends at a local restaurant, he was kidnapped, taken to a gas station and forced to drive his killers around for hours while they were in the back seat.

What about using your own good sense/intuition/logic to assess the situation and your right of self-defense or escape? The Watchtower micromanages to a level of putting lives in danger. We all have the ability to figure out what we can and can't do in a given situation.

Fortunately, I came from a non-JW family. My mother became a JW late in life, but she never shunned me. She expressed regret that I was no longer a JW, but did not shun me.
I also have a niece who was a JW for a few years, and she didn't shun me either. Maybe I have a better family than I thought. No members of my family are currently JW's.
Thank you, Jesus! -

Memory and memorization
by Terry in3.1415926535807932384626433i used to be able to go to a hundred from memory.
my son and daughter can do so.age 75 has cheated me a bit in this regard.what sort of things have you memorized (whether useful or useless)?i can recite the entire rime of the ancient mariner to this day, btw.there are many so-called tricks for remembering things that can be easily learned and i've read all or most of those books.the amusing thing about such memory is this: nobody cares!
"why do you need to memorize when you can just use your iphone?sigh...i memorized the periodic table of elements one day at work.

I can recite MacBeth's soliloquy word for word, a French poem called "Clair de Lune," as well as the Pythagorean theorem, several Bible scriptures, the pledge of allegiance, and some other things.
I find very little to no use for them.
