I can relate to this article so much! I was the only one in my family who became a JW as a teenager. I am very grateful that the rest of my family didn't go for it. I, too, married an elder and strove to be a dutiful wife to a man I didn't really have anything in common with except religion. I left him and returned to college in my 30's. I didn't have the additional struggle of being of a dark race, but, after all, I still was "only" a woman.
Her writing is excellent. It shows that she is educated. I sometimes ache for ex-witnesses because they weren't able to be educated, and make many mistakes in their spelling and grammar particularly. I know this weakness in grammar and spelling is not important to a lot of people, but it screams that the writer is uneducated.
