  i pose this challenge to believers: what would it take for you to stop believing in god?.

  this is an interesting challenge.

  well, it may sound paradoxical, but in order for any claim to be true, it must be falsifiable.

  How do you picture God showing himself ? Would it take a huge being on a cloud that descends down upon the entire earth, everyone quaking in their boots? What if an average looking man did some miracles? What if the oceans parted? What would it take?

  I don't know of anything that would make me not believe in God anymore. I think the only other alternative would be to accept that we will grow old and die. Nothing after that. I choose to believe that in there is an afterlife, and that it could be so much better than this one.

  i was raised a witness, so i never celebrated holidays.

  now, i don't go to meetings, don't agree that the watchtower is jehovahs sole channel of communication.

  I have small children. I was raised a witness, so I never celebrated holidays. Now, I don't go to meetings, don't agree that the watchtower is Jehovahs sole channel of communication. My wife and I still don't feel comfortable celebrating christmas. We have given our kids an alternative of gifts at a different time of year. They are too young to understand any of this yet. My question is, are there any out there that have been in my shoes and now have older children that are questioning why there is no celebrations, and not going to the meetings either? Is it hard seeing them grow up to marriage age, then see them go off and celebrate holidays? I am not looking for an argument about celebrating holidays. Just thought there were some who have had this experience.

  Blondie, Thanks for the post. It amazes me that, while being told to read and study the bible, we are told that there is only one conclusion to come to. THEN WHY STUDY THE BIBLE ITSELF AS A WITNESS? THE FDS HAS DONE THAT FOR US ALREADY (venting, sorry).

  YOUR BEST DRUNK STORY

  what's the worse thing you ever did while drunk (assuming we've all been drunk).........when i was 16, we all got blitzed out of our minds at a witness wedding that happened to take place on hallowe'en.

  anyway, on our way home we thought it'd be funny to whip eggs at passing cars.

  unfortunately, the first (and last) car i hit was a cruiser.......i realized this as the egg was in mid-air.

  I don't even want to post my worst story. I am too ashamed. I am glad I grew up somewhat, and am more responsible now. But the bad memories will be there forever.

  i was raised in the jw cult from birth, a third generation member to boot.

  my family was full of elders, ministerial servants and overseers of all sorts.

  Hey Shera, I thought you were here for "friends and fun" only? Sounds like your gettin pretty serious here. Interesting post. I could never figure out why it was so hard to get info from the NWT translators, or even knew who they were for that matter. Thats asking a lot for the witnesses. I mean to follow this translation, and not know who the translators are.

  defender, I still see a red X. I have had this happen to me, and am not sure why. I think maybe if you linked the pic to a web site, and they changed the pic or removed it, then there might be a X. Not sure though.
