  Has the WT ever apologized for changing their stance on something?

  it's very eye opening.

  but on thinking about how the gb finally changed their stance on allowing civil service instead of prison when a christian was face with military service, it makes me wonder if the wt ever apologizes for any reversal of beliefs it imposes?

  Are They Cynically Shutting Down The Organization?

  i've raised this idea before but recent events seem to support it.

  changes in the watchtower may be guided by more than a need for cash flow: they may simply be liquidating/shutting it down as discreetly as possible.. of course, this doesn't mean they stop working on their upstate ny country club - but it could mean that the throrough going exposure and disproof of their beliefs on the internet, when it emerged, took many of them by surprize, as it did many of us!

  after awhile, they generally gave up trying to make any sense of their doctrines - and coupled with cash flow issues - moved towards a quiet retreat.. take a look at a few things:.

  Prime Directive of Destructive Cults

  the prime directive of all destructive cults is to keep members absolutely convinced they are not involved in a destructive cult.

  if that directive is not sustained the game is over for the leaders of the cult.. i thought about this because of an interesting experience i had not more than a half hour ago.

  i wanted to call a childhood friend of mine; we had made contact a year or so ago after forty years.

  the jw.org video about the annual meeting contains david splane saying "we just love this idea", when talking about the adjusted fds doctrine.

  "we just love this idea"????

  when it becomes one of the fundament teachings of the organisational part of a religion, the rank-and-file witnesses are expected to be convinced about these kind of doctrines.

  PATIENCE: I counted 58 occurrences of some form of the word "patience" in this article. That includes not only the text in the body of the articles, but also the title, subheadings, questions and captions.

  It does NOT include any time it appeared in referenced scriptures, which was quite a few. Obviously there is no way to know how many times individuals used the words in the comments during the WT study as that would vary from congregation to congregation.

  Not very subtle WT!

  LG, good point and thanks for the link. I'll take a look.

  Actually, I believe the WT leaders are fully aware of what they are doing. As a result, they are morally culpable for their actions. This is evil by definition.

  But they have trained their followers to not "look at themselves [JW's as a religion and WT leaders in particular] in the mirror" through the use of the very propaganda techniques the pretend to malign. It's so hypocritical.

  It is interesting that WT writers use all the propaganda techniques dissected in this article; they use them often, regularly and very skillfully.

  To my mind the deliberate and knowing use of techniques of manipulation proves willful and malicious intent on the part of the WT leadership.

  Are you a writer?

  i think that at least a few of you are writers, maybe more.

  i mean honest-to-god working-for-money writers, writers with a small "w" rather than a capital "w." my experience is that writing is a lot like theater: a few stars at the top making the bucks, a middle level with lots of people who work hard and don't make much, and then a lot more hopeful people at the bottom who are trying to make a living writing with no luck so far.. tell me about it.

  Nice thread! Thanks for starting it Hortensia.

  I've done a lot of writing over the years: songs, poetry, fiction and essays. Most of that was for personal pleasure and or expression. I should also mention the countless school reports at university when getting my credential.

  I have done a bit "professional" writing as well. For a couple of years I worked as an editor for an entertainment industry magazine. I really liked that job, but sadly the rag folded! During that period I also self-published a newsletter focusing on industry news, developments and related subjects.

  I am currently working on a couple of book projects. They range from a JW-related tome to a collection of short stories.
