Received "recruitment" letter following death of father
by John K infirst, let me start by saying i respect and honor the right of anyone to spread their message.
i do not descriminate against anyones church.
in the u.s. we are fortunate enough to enjoy that right.. that said, a jehovah's decided that the death of my father would be a good time to send a letter to my mother.

Welcome John!
I am afraid that complaining to the local congregation with this person's name won't help. They will probably be given a pat on the back and called zealous, in spite of the fact that what they did was just plain tacky.
I do like your idea of sending a letter to the editor of the local paper. It will bring more attention to the public and the writer of that letter views that newspaper and will hopefully see the hurt they have caused.

Had a Conversation with a Young JW Lady at the Bus Stop
by Yizuman inthere was a young blonde lady who was passing out the wt & awake magazines at the bus stop where i was waiting for the bus to go downtown..... i started having a conversation with her by starting out about charles taze russell.
i told her that of all of my readings of the works of c.t.
russell, not one time did he ever teach that jesus was michael the archangel..... so i told her about this quote....zions watchtower and herald of christs presence, their official magazine of doctrine, 1879, page 48, which is teaching on jesus christ: "...his position is contrasted with that of men and angels, as he is lord of both, having all power in heaven and earth.

When you visited the doctor, did you mention the depression? Depression affects people in many different ways. My hubby lost a tremendous amount of weight and didn't even realize it was depression. He is on Prozac. When he isn't on it his mind races in many direction in what seems like at the same time, especially when he tries to go to sleep at night.
I also read that too much sleep can worsen depression. If your visits to the doctor showed no physical symptoms, try to fight the urge to oversleep.

That grand poobah of the kingdumb
hallhell was way out of line. I agree, sue him. He is casting the same judgement on anyone else in your town that does not agree with his religious beliefs. -

We did it -- we're married now!!
by Gopher injune 20th marked a new beginning for me and yourschelbie.. we had a justice-of-the-peace wedding, with just a few family and friends on hand.
the judge did a marvelous job of capturing the essence of the meaning of marriage in just a few minutes.
(and we weren't reminded that serving a publishing company should be the #1 priority in life, lol.).

My heart is breaking...
by Billygoat in...for my friend.
she is 32, incredibly intelligent, holds a masters degree, is a teacher at a local high school where the kids adore her, a fantastic wit...and she's drop-dead gorgeous.
for those of you at my wedding, she was the bridesmaid with the naturally curly auburn-hair down to her waist.

Andi, if your friends depression is apparent to all that she is in contact with it may be part of the problem.. Some people don't know how to handle those with depression and tend to avoid them. It may be part of the reason she hasn't hooked up with someone. Keep being there for her. Hopefully she will resolve herself to move on...... and thats when someone unexpectedly usually comes along.
