Another non-JW reacts to Sparlock video
by cedars inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-ssv2nh0rc.
and two weeks ago i highlighted another video where sparlock helped an ex-mormon.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmesmlhydru.
though it still depresses me to think of all the young ones (including my own relatives) falling under the influence of this dangerous piece of propaganda, it's at least some small comfort that the sparlock video is backfiring so dramatically among thinking non-jws.. .

MUST SEE VIDEO: "Read God's Word the Bible Daily" sign removed from Brooklyn, NY Watchtower Bldgs

The footage of the sign removal is from 117 Adams Street. This building is one of the six in the factory/residential complex that recently changed hands for $375 million. As Gopher indicated, the waterfront Colombia Heights property (with its iconic Watchtower sign) is expected to be in use until 2017, but there have been reports indicating that a deal has already been done to sell this complex for $240 million. If true, this takes Watchtower's proceeds from Brooklyn sales past the billion mark.

Interesting experience while protesting at district conventions
by theron ware infor three weekends this summer, a friend and i protested outside district assemblies being held in the tucson convention center.
our approach was very low key and completely non-confrontational: we just held our posters and smiled.
this was our experience at the first two assemblies (for the third assembly, see the next paragraph).

Great experience theron. I'm sure you made a few people think if only due to the heavy-handed manner in which you were treated. I think if I were ever to protest at a DC, that's precisely how I'd do it... respectfully, quietly, and just letting people approach me.

Are JWs creationists?
by Jeffro inif you believe what is officially stated on the jw website, jws are not creationists.
.
the fact that the exact jw belief is in fact specifically called "day-age creationism" seems to have alluded them.

Here is my article on this subject for anyone interested...
http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/jw-orgs-identity-crisis-jehovahs-witnesses-do-not-agree-with-creationism
Some on the JWsurvey comments have already remarked that they believe JWs reject the "creationist" label just for the sake of being different, and because they don't like any worldly labels - especially those with negative connotations. I think there may be some truth in this. Basically, they're just being awkward and pedantic.

jwfacts or jwinterpretations?
by slimboyfat injwfacts is a great website, but in view of the fact that "there are no facts, only interpretations", as nietzsche said, should the website be renamed jwinterpretations instead?

Something odd just happened when I logged on!
by tornapart ini typed in my name, password and the captcha, expecting to see my name come up in the top right corner and what i actually saw was someone else's name!
(the name was another member of this board).
i looked at it for a few seconds feeling a bit puzzled and not sure what to do about it and as i looked it automatically changed (whithout me doing anything) back to my own name.. has anyone else had this happen to them?

What is the WT's definition of an Apostate...
by Bells ini don't mean the 'unruly men who cook up wicked reasoning and season their brew with poisonous lies that deceive minds' definition.... i mean - who are they actually referring to when they are doing these awful talks at the conventions about the mentally diseased apostates etc.. specifically - is an 'apostate' someone who was actually baptised (baptized for you american's ) ?
or can someone who was simply raised in "the truth" but left and was never baptised be classified as this lying, deceiving, mentally diseased apostate also?
or am i considered to be an apostate - even though i wasn't raised in the cult, never went to a meeting etc.

There are good and bad people in all groups. I don't believe the acts of some bad people determine it being the truth or not.
If this is your reasoning, then you can go out and join pretty much any religion under the sun, no matter how revulsive its leaders or followers are.
For example, if your focus is doctrine, by returning to JWs you will be required to believe that Jesus Christ selected Joseph Rutherford in 1919 to be his faithful and discreet slave.
If you do an objective study of Rutherford's character based on historical evidence, you will swiftly reach the conclusion that there's no way that such a dreadful man could have been chosen by Christ.
But then apparently you believe that it doesn't matter what religious leaders do in order for something to be the truth.
Something else you might want to consider is the Society's concept of "increasing light," which is the doctrine used to excuse their constant changes in teachings. I challenge you to find a single scripture in the Bible that describes a process whereby God hands down wrong information to his servants as a "makeweight" until true information is divulged at a later stage. That is essentially what the increasing light doctrine requires you to believe, and yet it is not supported anywhere in scripture.
