I personally find it difficult to attribute the Governing Body members with cleverness. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course, but I think in an organization that bans higher education and rewards blind devotion you can only ever expect a leadership comprising of intellectually-deficient yes men and egotists to rise to the top. The true evil sentience of this cult lies in the layered system of beliefs that have accumulated over the decades to serve leaders of yesteryear rather than the dummies who have inherited their legacy.

Yes, I heard about this. Once again, the LDS church seems to be one step ahead of the game. I personally doubt we will see Watchtower adopt a similar approach any time soon. Whereas LDS seems to be embracing its new "mainstream" status and changing with the times, Watchtower is doing everything it can to radicalize its message. Mind you, they have surprised me before...

I personally hate the ambiguity at the end, i.e. "we're not saying what Jehovah did or did not do." Yes, of course you're telling us what he did by just telling the story. If you don't think Jehovah had any hand in these events, then why tell the story? The whole thing was very reminiscent to me of the experience in the 2013 Yearbook where a family described it as "Jehovah's hand" that they were out at the meeting when a passenger plane ploughed into their apartment block killing all 153 onboard. The Society can hold its hands up and deny making any direct implications, but the publishers still come away with the desired impression - that Jehovah performs miracles for his servants if they are obedient.
