Leander, so true. Religion pretends to understand why their 'god' allows such things and they try and present their 'god' as a loving being. The two realities do not mix! The fact is that if a god exists he obviously doesn't give a rat's ass about living conditions on this planet.

BeautifulGarbage, yes indeed she does. And if the JW god does exist I want no part of him. He's too busy 'keeping his orgs name clean' to care about the children being abused/molested, people being driven insane by the inane rules and regulations of the WTBTS, etc.

JW opposer conversation stoppers
by Leander infor some reason on my way to the meeting last night i was thinking what if there was a reasoning book for talking with jws.
in particular a section with rebuttals for common jw thinking.
jesus disciple's made false predictions too.. jehovah has always used an organization.. the light keeps getting brighter.. who else is doing the work that we are?.

Where else to go?
First off, the question was not "WHERE" but to "WHOM" - speaking of Jesus of course, and the fact that he had sayings of truth. Well since the WTBTS has little 'truth' then "ANYWHERE BUT HERE" is the correct answer Or that "WHOM" is who you are concerned with, not "WHERE" (If you still buy the bible thing, if not, well, that's a tougher sell to a JW - baby steps you know!)
Jesus disciple's made false predictions too.
No they didn't. They never TAUGHT things like dates. They may have thought that Jesus was talking about kingdom on earth, but the bible doesn't say they kicked out ones who thought otherwise. In fact wasn't "Doubting Thomas" in a gathering of Jesus desciples - they were not shuning him even thought he was saying Jesus was never raised!
Jehovah has always used an organization.
Blatenly false. Where was the 'org' from Jesus to 187x? Where was the 'org' before Jesus? If they say Nation of Isreal - blat! Wrong! That was a NATION, not an ORG. If that's a precedent, then Jehovah would have a NATION now, not an ORG.
The light keeps getting brighter.
Whatever - blink on, blink off, that's not 'brighter' to me.
Who else is doing the work that we are?
Hmmm, Mormans, Catholics, Baptist, Methodist, Scientologists, need I continue? Of course, most don't knock on doors as they realize what a futle waste of time that is - IOW they're not stupid If the JW 'preaching work' is the mark of the true religion, then god is backing a piss-poor org. The 'preaching work' is losing ground in an increasing pace, and has never come even CLOSE to acomplishing it's 'goal'. Start asking non-JWs if what they know about JWs. 90% don't even know they exist, or if they do they call them "Jehovers" - that's the extent of their knowledge about "god's true org". If god is judgeing people based on their reaction to the JW preaching - he's a piss-poor god doing a piss-poor job.

Yes I am quite close to the Powdered Donut oracle. The Green God tells me it is so.

Is holy spirit really involved with appointments?
by Leander ini've always been curious about the process they use to appoint someone as a minsterial servant, elder or pioneer.
do they claim these appointments are made by holy spirit?
i am aware that the elder body has to first approve it and then send it through bethel or the circuit overseer, but i'm not sure what happens next.

It's sort of like reading the manuel that came with your GM car. You can say General Motors fixed it after you did the work.
HAHA! That's a good one.
Yep, they like to say the HS makes the appointments, but if you press them on the issue then they admit that the HS doesn't directly make the appointment, but that by following the bible requirements for MS/Edler the HS 'helps' or some such nonsense. The proof's in the pudding as they say though, and if the HS is appointing some of these freaks as MS/Edlers it's doing a piss-poor job.
Xenu, the green god spoke to me through the oracle of the powdered donut. My cat saw a vision of the great fire of the Saints. Xandilsouis came to me last night and said "Be free of your sins, eat the powdered donut oracle." He then commanded me to follow him to his ship on the western banks of the grand canal of Mars. He said that I must convert all I meet to the ways of the Purple People of Pularimos. If you do not repent of your wicked ways and convert today you will face the wrath of the Red Demon of Redormous. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Forcing the secretary to call every 'weak' one to get time gets really old for the poor secretary. I know cause I was one of those he had to call for the last 2 or so years of my JW-hood. What a burden to have to keep that list and make those calls every month. Oh well, at least he's 'busy in Jehovah's work' eh?
I wonder if it pricks the conscience of the elders who call people like me who are/were obviously making up time and placements just to keep the report 'looking good' for the CO/Bethel? I wonder if it begins to sink in that they are in fact boosting #'s for a pyramid scheme? Or do they not even think about it since it's 'their job'?

My husband is stepping down tomorrow night . . .
by Prisila ini'm extatic .
my husband is stepping down as an elder tomorrow.
how do you guys think that will go?

No, they're bleeding elders and MS's now. Years ago people talked about how hard it was in places like Mexico, etc where there would be 1 elder per congo, now the USA is becoming the same way. All the elders and MS's are burning out.

Are teenagers old enought to get baptised?
by sleepy ini, like many on this board got baptised when still a teenager (17).. at the time i thought i knew what i was doing and could take full responsibility for my actions.. 10 years later i realise i knew very little back then compared to what i know now.. was i old enought to make my mind up?.
or could we always at any age ,be looking back at things we did wrong thinking if only i knew what i know now?.
actually how much responsibility can we hold over what we did as teenagers .weren't we pushed by the congregation and parents, we had little knowledge of anything else being force fed the "truth" since babies.. at such a young age aren't we much more vulnerable to brainwashing ?.

Most kids baptise to please parents, gain respect in the congo, get to do things like pioneer, etc. There's NO WAY they realize the kind of commitment that they are making. Not that my baptism (at age 11) means ANYTHING at all to me - I mean it has as much impact on my life as would having deicated my life to serving Santa Claus at age 11 would have on me now.
For the bible thumpers, Jesus was 30 when he 'took the plunge' so that would be a good rule of thumb ...

Leander. Before making a stand, make your relationship with your wife as strong as possible. And try and make that relationship strong in non-JWs areas - ie a hobby of some sort or other that you both enjoy. Perhaps she will see beyond the JW glasses and stick by your side even if you are 'weak'. At the least, if you don't force her to choose between you and the religion, perhaps time will help her to see what she KNOWS in her heart to be true (at least it sounds as if she perhaps sees the problems you see, but at this point cannot accept that it may be true).
I'd still hope that you could fade away - just tell them you need a 'break' from the routine for awhile. Be very evasive about making any definite statements about anything. As for the elders/etc I'd just be 'unavailable' for sheparding calls, etc.
Give your wife a way to have her cake and eat it too, and she may jump at the chance ... what I mean is don't force her to choose between you and JWs. At this point it sounds like JWs have her on a short leash.
